Worship: No Other Gods / Wellness: Our Disease Care System

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake   God requires our ultimate devotion to Him. We are to allow nothing and no one to prevent our ultimate devotion to God. Only God Himself must have first place in our lives. It is the first commandment. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, read an article published on the site of WellandGood.com, where a doctor admits to the so-called health system being a disease care system, not a healthcare system. Its drugs are simply band-aids, he says. They don’t nurture the body to truly regain or preserve health. Pastor Flemons agrees. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement

Matthew 7:7, 8  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Psalm 31:23, 24  O love the LORD, all ye his saints: For the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, All ye that hope in the LORD.

For Heaven’s Sake…

Doing things out of habit and without realizing it sometimes, people can put things and people before God. In reality, the attitude is “God can wait. He’ll be there for me.” But God is clear. He will not share His throne with any other.

“You can’t be successful in life, if you put anything before God,”  says Pastor Flemons.

Matthew 13:5 defines those who have idols, he says. The idols are underground–meaning that they are not visible. The idol is hidden; but its effects are quite visible. Any idol will prevent the word of God from taking root in the life. Without being rooted and grounded in the word of God, we cannot stand. We cannot make it through.

Everyone should search his or her own heart, says Pastor Flemons. We should ask God to reveal to us if we are putting anything before Him. We must ask Him to show us any hidden idol, whether it be an item or person, that is keeping us from having the love relationship with Him that He wants from us. He wants us without compromise. We must ask Him to help us to put Him first. He will do it. Then He can bless us according to the depths of His love for us.

“For the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer” (Psalm 31:23).

For Health’s Sake…

Dr. Frank Lipman is a leading integrative physician. He says, “True health is a feeling of vitality and emotional and psychological wellbeing. It’s way beyond just the absence of disease.” He spoke out in response to last week’s determination of President Trump’s state of health. It was reported as being “excellent.”

That touched a nerve in him. Such statements are “outrageous” and “irresponsible” to him. He said that those with excessive abdominal fat are known to be at a higher risk for “heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and other serious diseases.” Abdominal and belly fat is a major source of inflammation, which is “likely the most important risk factor” for those major diseases.

And those who sleep for only four hours a night can’t truly have excellent health. Sleep deprivation over time, alone, is associated with all sorts of diseases and lowered immune function. For one, the glymphatic system suffers when people are sleep-deprived. It is the cleaning system of the brain, which “only works when you sleep.” The thinking of a sleep-deprived person is hazy. And they are at a higher risk for becoming a victim of Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, diabetes, and/or cancer.

Pastor Flemons has been saying all along that the way to avoid such major diseases is to preserve good health through diet and lifestyle. Preserving good health involves making healthy choices daily. He says that you nurture what you really care for. We must nurture our health. We must preserve it according to the biblical principles of health. Disease, not health, is being nurtured by the current “healthcare” system. And the current system apparently sees no real link between diet and lifestyle and disease.

Dr. Lipman quoted Wendell Berry’s observation of the link. Wendell Berry is a famous American philosopher who said, “People are fed by the food industry, which pays no attention to our health, and are treated by the health industry, which pays no attention to food.”

Dr. Lipman says that the people with excellent health tend to eat simple whole foods and make wise lifestyle choices every day. People with excellent health exercise. They may not be gym enthusiasts, but they regularly walk for exercise. They have good sleep habits. They enjoy their families, and they enjoy doing for others.

The healthier the person, says Dr. Lipman, the better the diet and lifestyle choices that are being made on a daily basis. That is direct association. This is how you take charge of your health. And the time to begin is now. Pastor Flemons recommends beginning with the REFRESHING Way lifestyle plan. The REFRESHING Way lifestyle is an authentic plan that guides you to nurturing your health with simple, plant-based whole foods and wise lifestyle choices every single day.
