Worship: The Lesser Light and the Greater Light /Wellness: Medical Treatment on Steroids

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The Bible lays down a principle of truth in receiving prophetic writings not found in the Bible. Genesis 1:16 tells of a greater light, the sun, and a lesser light, the moon. The sun rules the day. The moon rules the night. The Bible, like the sun, is the greater light. The Spirit of Prophecy (SOP) writings are like the moon, which–in darkness–simply reflects the light of the sun. Prophetic writings must simply reflect the Bible. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Wasted healthcare spending in America is estimated at $765 billion per year. That is one-fourth of all healthcare spending in one year, according to the article “Unnecessary Medical Care: More Common Than You Might Imagine.” Published at NPR.com, the article was written by Marshall Allen and shared by Pastor Shelem Flemons with listeners. A doctor of biblical wellness, Pastor Flemons says that medical treatments, themselves, are on steroids. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement

Isaiah 50:7  For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

Habakkuk 3:17-18  Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the GOD of my salvation.

For Heaven’s Sake…

“Ellen White Calls Her Writings a Lesser Light—[She says this:] Little heed is given to the Bible, and the Lord has given a lesser light to lead men and women to the greater light.”—The Review and Herald, January 20, 1903 (Quoted in Colporteur Ministry, 125.) {3SM 30.4}God has seen fit in this manner to bring the minds of his people to his Word, to give them a clearer understanding of it.” {3SM 30.6} “The Spirit was not given—nor can it ever be bestowed—to supersede the Bible; for the Scriptures explicitly state that the Word of God is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested….” Isaiah declares, ‘To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them'” (Isaiah 8:20).—The Great Controversy, Introduction, p. vii. {3SM 30.5} Therefore, Spirit of Prophecy writings must be in harmony with the Bible.

Job said that the sun shines, but that the moon walks in the brightness of the sun. (Read Job 31:26.) Pastor Flemons explained that the moon has no light of its own, since it only reflects the light of the sun. As such, he says “When we see moonlight, we are seeing sunlight reflected.” Likewise, we should receive Spirit of Prophecy writings. Pastor Flemons added, “To not accept the Spirit of Prophecy is to reject the Bible.” The Bible says, “Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”

For Health’s Sake…

One analysis of wasteful healthcare spending in one year in the state of Washington, alone, revealed this:

  • More than 600,000 patients underwent a treatment they didn’t need, treatments that collectively cost an estimated $282 million.
  • More than a third of the money spent on the 47 tests or services went to unnecessary care.
  • 3 in 4 annual cervical cancer screenings were performed on women who had adequate prior screenings – at a cost of $19 million.
  • About 85 percent of the lab tests to prep healthy patients for low-risk surgery were unnecessary – squandering about $86 million.
  • Needless annual heart tests on low-risk patients consumed $40 million.

The article states that these findings were reported by “the Washington Health Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to making care safer and more affordable.” It further stated that the “group scoured the insurance claims from 1.3 million patients in Washington state who received one of 47 tests or services that medical experts have flagged as overused or unnecessary.” “An analysis in Virginia identified $586 million in wasted spending in a single year.”

All of America should pause to reflect on this and ask this question. “What am I doing or not doing that adds to this problem and what can I do to improve?” How different healthcare would likely be if patients only paid for the real value, rather than the volume, of services provided. May God grant us all discernment and wisdom in proper research to know when and when not to listen to anyone about our health.

Pastor Flemons suggests you begin with a lifestyle change to biblical wellness: the REFRESHING Way.
