Worship: For Heaven’s Sake When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will have the mind and character and faith of Jesus Christ, who always does that which well pleases God, the Father, and blesses mankind. (Read Luke 3:21-23 and 1 Corinthians 2:10-16.) When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will have a love of truth, for He is the Spirit of Truth, who will guide you into all truth. (Read John 16:13.) You will repent of any sin in your own life and reprove sin elsewhere. You will live a righteous life and encourage others to do so too. For you will be empowered to do the will of God. You will have wisdom and understanding, and everything you do will be done to the glory of God. (Read John 16:26; 1 Corinthians 2:12 and 13; 1 Corinthians 10:31; and John 16:14.) Finally, if you are doing something to show that you are filled the Holy Spirit, but you cannot imagine Jesus doing the same and certainly cannot support it with Scripture, you are not filled with the Holy Spirit. For the Holy Spirit does all things decently and in order and always does the will of God. God is not the author of confusion. (Read 1 Corinthians 14:22-40 and Exodus 31.)
Wellness: For Health’s Sake “Antipsychotic drugs, such as haloperidol and risperidone are FDA-approved for treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, but can increase the risk of death in older people who have dementia.” So reports an NPR.org article Pastor Flemons shared during broadcast time. Pastor Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, typically warns against any medication that is said to make a sick person well, but will make a well person sick, and in these cases, die. Words of Encouragement
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:27, 28 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
For Health’s Sake…
According to the article, “about 179,000 nursing home residents are being given antipsychotic drugs, even though they don’t have schizophrenia or other serious mental illnesses that those drugs are designed to treat.” The “antipsychotic drugs were often administered without informed consent and for the purpose of making dementia patients easier to handle in understaffed facilities.” Even more disturbing is that these statistics apply to the states with the most skilled nursing facilities.
Thankfully, a program designed to reduce the use of antipsychotic drugs in nursing homes began in 2012. Since then and by the beginning of 2017, drug use of this type has dropped nationwide from 23.9 percent to 15.7 percent of nursing home residents. Still, it is being contended that the federal government has failed in doing enough to protect nursing home residents. An NPR investigation found that a mere 2 percent of cases were deemed serious enough to even trigger a fine.
Old lives matter, says Pastor Flemons, who encourages families to keep their elderly family members safe and healthy and out of nursing homes, if at all possible.
