Worship: Authority at the Gate / Wellness: Why You Shouldn’t Eat Between Meals

Wellness: For Health’s Sake   Pastor Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that if you feel hungry before five hours after your last meal, it is likely because you have not eaten a nutritious meal. (Read more below.)

QTQT  Sis. Odessa’s medicine for her cracked kneecap is very strong, and she asked for an alternative for the extreme pain. Pastor responded with these herbs that address inflammation and pain: extract of valerian, white willow bark, and Jamaican dogwood. For Heaven’s Sake…

“In ancient times, the gate of a city was the place where just judgment was dispensed. Deut. 16:18. In summoning one to the gate, no preliminaries were necessary, no writings, no delay. In a short conversation any matter could be stated. Ruth 4:1. The position at the gate was one of prestige, honor, and authority. Among the special purposes for which it was used may be mentioned a place of audience for kings and rulers or ambassadors. How fitting that the gate of the sanctuary, the way to the throne of God, should represent King Jesus, Heaven’s Ambassador to me and to you here and now in this earth, He who is ‘the way, the truth, and the life!’ John 14:6.

“The gateways of royal palaces were often richly ornamented. Sometimes sentences from the law were inscribed on and above the gates. Deut. 6:9.” PTG 41 (PTG 31)

Deuteronomy 6:9 directs the writing of the law of God “upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” The importance and perpetuity of the law of God is shown by the fact that Jesus died to satisfy the wages of sin. (Read Romans 6:23.) If the law could be simply changed, then sin, which is “a transgression of the law” (1 John 3:4), easily could cease to exist, and Jesus easily would not have had to die.

For Health’s Sake…

Nutrition is what the body needs. When the body has feasted on good nutrition, it is satisfied and does not produce cravings. Processed foods tend to produce hunger pangs before the previous meal has been completely digested. If you feel hungry too quickly after your last meal, it is better to drink a liquid than to interrupt the digestive process with more food that now needs to be digested as well. And liquids should generally be taken with the space of an hour from the meal.

The reason for not eating between meals is to allow the digestive system to complete its cycle and to rest before the next round of digestion. During every digestive cycle, the digestive system expends huge amounts of energy. This is the reason going to bed on undigested food is not recommended.

When the body is at rest, the normally very slow process of digestion is slowed down even more. And during the hours of rest on a full stomach, the digestive system is both trying to rest and trying to empty the stomach of its contents. It does not fully rest. This is the reason you may feel hunger pangs and fatigue upon waking. This is the time to avoid adding more food on top of undigested food.

Ideally, two meals per day is sufficient. If a third is required, a very light meal, like fruit or a smoothie is all that should be sufficient. The digestive system, like every other system and all organs, needs rest for optimal health. Otherwise, toxins are produced in the body, because undigested food rots in the stomach. This creates a toxic internal environment that allows disease to develop and flourish.
