Worship: The Gate of Refuge / Wellness: Prolonged Stress Sickens

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The gate of a city of refuge was a place of safety for one guilty of murder without premeditation. The refugee was allowed to remain unharmed in the city of refuge, until he could stand trial and until the death of the high priest. Then he could return home. In like manner, Jesus is that eternal Gate to the heavenly city of refuge. (Read Joshua 20; Genesis 28:12-17; and John 1:51.) (For further details, read “Christ Our Gate of Refuge” in The Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. PTG 41 (PTG 31)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake   Pastor Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that stress produces energy for fight or flight. All the body systems go into a holding pattern, as this energy is harnessed for fight or flight. In preparation for injury repair, the body also produces fat and cholesterol. This process adds toxins to the body, which ripens the internal environment for cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetic complications, and autoimmune diseases: the top killer conditions in America. In other words, when you do not rely on God, stress can make you sick and take you out.

Words of Encouragement

Psalm 90:1, 2  Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

Deuteronomy 6:3  Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
