Worship: The Blessings of Service / Wellness: How Exercise Helps Every System

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “Our efforts to help others and point them to the way of life, will not only benefit them but it will ‘react in blessings upon ourselves. This was the purpose of God in giving us a part to act in the plan of redemption. He has granted men the privilege of becoming partakers of the divine nature, and in their turn, of diffusing blessings to their fellowmen. This is the highest honor, the greatest joy, that it is possible for God to bestow upon men.’ SC 83. Such lightbearing is not stinted or meager. It is thus described by Luke: ‘Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.'” Luke 6:38 (PTG)

Serving others not only is a positive witness for Christianity but it even brings with it healing of body and mind to the one doing the good to others.

[For additional details, please read Isaiah 58:6-8; SC 83; and “The Blessing of Service” in The Path to the Throne of God: The Sanctuary, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 144 original; PTG 198 new edition; PTG 110 online) Also please listen to the recording and hear Pastor Flemons sing Hymn 248, “O, How I Love Jesus.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, described the benefits of exercise on every bodily system. He says that exercise helps the circulatory system by strengthening the heart and improving the elasticity of blood vessels. Exercise helps the respiratory system by strengthening the lungs and expelling toxins from them. Exercise helps the skeletal system by strengthening the bones and locking calcium and estrogen into the bones. Exercise helps the muscular system as it strengthens muscles. Exercise helps the endocrine system by improving the balance of the hormones.

Exercise helps the integumentary system by helping to release toxins from the skin. Exercise helps the nervous system by calming the nerves. Exercise helps the gastrointestinal system by reducing stress, which correspondingly supports healthy digestion. Exercise helps the blood system by helping it produce better components. Exercise helps the reproductive system by reducing estrogen levels, which lowers the risk of cancer. And exercise helps the urinary system by pulling toxins from the blood and excreting them through the skin, which decreases the burden on the kidneys. Thus, all twelve body systems benefit from exercise, the best of which is simply walking.
