Worship: The Close of Probation, Part 1 / Wellness: Cabbage-Epsom Salt Poultice

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  You can grieve away the Holy Spirit and close your own probation. Persistent wrong responses to the merciful miracles of God in your life is how you harden your heart and grieve away the Holy Spirit. That is what happened to Pharaoh.

He was persistent in having his own way and all the more in the face of the miracles that God performed, which should have made him a believer and were designed to get his attention. This is not a one-time event. It is a process that leads to destruction and the loss of salvation.

Salvation, which is extended to all, may be rejected by all. The close of probation in this way has nothing to do with time, says Pastor Flemons. It has everything to do with attitude.

He added, “The only sure and safe rule is to do what God says.”

(For additional details, please read Mark 3:1-6; Exodus 7:3; 14:4, 17; John 3:16; Titus 2:11-14; Deuteronomy 15:6-10; Joshua 11:20; 1 Samuel 6:6; and Matthew 12:22-31. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons and hear him sing  Hymn 86 “How Great Thou Art.”)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that pain in any joint can be eased with a cabbage leaf-epsom salt poultice.

It’s easy. He says simply strip out the rib of the cabbage leaf to flatten it. Then pulverize the leaf with a meat tenderizer or a rolling pin. That releases the juices within the cabbage leaf. Then spread Epsom salt slush onto the leaf and wrap the swollen joint. Then wrap a clingy plastic, like Saran wrap, around the joint covered by the cabbage leaf. This will protect sheets if worn overnight. The wrap may be left on 6 to 8 hours.

This will relieve pain and reduce inflammation in joints and sprains. This is a natural and effective treatment with no side effects or contraindications.

Worship: Timing of National Sunday Law #2, Judgment of the Living / Wellness: The Cure for Most Edema

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Judgment was set. The books were opened. To the prophet Daniel was shown that “great and solemn day when the characters and the lives of men should pass in review before the Judge of all the earth.” To every man was “rendered ‘according to his works.’”

In Daniel 7 is shown that time at the end of the 2300-day prophecy in 1844, when Jesus, our High Priest, “appears in the presence of God to engage in the last acts of His ministration in behalf of man—to perform the work of investigative judgment and to make an atonement for all who are shown to be entitled to its benefits.” {GC 479.3} That date, that time, that event could not be changed, says Pastor Flemons. He also informed some and reminded others, as he quoted the prophet of God Ellen G. White, as having said, “There will never again be a message for the people of God that will be based on time. We are not to know the definite time either for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit or for the coming of Christ.” {1SM 188.1}

Although God is coming for a whole church without spot or wrinkle, according to Ephesians 5:27, Pastor Flemons noted that it is the trend of every life that God will investigate during the judging phase. Says the prophet, “Every man’s work passes in review before God and is registered for faithfulness or unfaithfulness. Opposite each name in the books of heaven is entered with terrible exactness every wrong word, every selfish act, every unfulfilled duty, and every secret sin, with every artful dissembling. Heaven-sent warnings or reproofs neglected, wasted moments, unimproved opportunities, the influence exerted for good or for evil, with its far-reaching results, all are chronicled by the recording angel. {GC 482.1}

“The law of God is the standard by which the characters and the lives of men will be tested in the judgment. . . .As the books of record are opened in the judgment, the lives of all who have believed on Jesus come in review before God. Beginning with those who first lived upon the earth, our Advocate presents the cases of each successive generation, and closes with the living. Every name is mentioned, every case closely investigated. Names are accepted, names rejected. When any have sins remaining upon the books of record, unrepented of and unforgiven, their names will be blotted out of the book of life, and the record of their good deeds will be erased from the book of God’s remembrance. The Lord declared to Moses: ‘Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.’ Exodus 32:33. And says the prophet Ezekiel: ‘When the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, … all his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned.’ Ezekiel 18:24.” {GC 483.1}

“Jesus does not excuse their sins, but shows their penitence and faith, and, claiming for them forgiveness, He lifts His wounded hands before the Father and the holy angels, saying: I know them by name. I have graven them on the palms of My hands. . . . Their names stand enrolled in the book of life, and concerning them it is written: ‘They shall walk with Me in white: for they are worthy.’ Revelation 3:4″ {GC 484.2}

“The work of preparation is an individual work. We are not saved in groups. The purity and devotion of one will not offset the want of these qualities in another. Though all nations are to pass in judgment before God, yet He will examine the case of each individual with as close and searching scrutiny as if there were not another being upon the earth. Everyone must be tested and found without spot or wrinkle or any such thing.” {GC 489.3}

(For additional details, please read what formed the basis of his talk: “Facing Life’s Record,” Great Controversy, pp. 479 – 491 and especially GC 482-483, Exodus 32:33; Ezekiel 18:24; A Prophet Among You, p. 104; GC 457; 5T 53, Revelation 2:10. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons and hear him sing “He’s Got All the Time in the World” and Hymn 289 “The Savior Is Waiting.”)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says almost all edema can be cured with water and juicing. Using the personal testimony of his current health guest, Pastor Flemons showed how dramatically different the feet of his guest looked after only the first two days of a 10-day juice feast.

Swelling is gone. The juicing, which has a lot of antiinflammatory properties, creates a state of alkalinity for the body. This is what happens when toxins are flushed out and water and nutrients are flushed in, says Pastor Flemons. Besides that, a lot of people are simply dehydrated, he says.

The guest, a male in his 70s, according to Pastor Flemons said this: “I have not seen the veins of my feet in– I can’t even tell you the last time.”

Words of Encouragement

Daniel 12:1  And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. (Also read Ye Shall Receive PowerYRP 342.)

Worship: Timing of the Sunday Law Pt 1 / Wellness: Benefits of the Isotonic Flush

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Analogies can provide great spiritual lessons, says Pastor Flemons. But they should not be used as directives by divine authority. Yet, when God’s inspired prophet makes an analogy, indeed, it can be accepted as divine authority.

Reading from the introduction to volume 5 of the Testimonies for the Church (5T), Pastor Flemons set the time of the writings combined in the volume: 1881 – 1889. Afterward, he read a portion of the call to action, which in part says this: “…A crisis threatened in the United States in the form of a proposed national sunday law. In this connection there was brought before Mrs. White the views of the impending conflict and the issues which the church must meet as apostate Protestantism unites with Catholicism to enforce oppressive measures. The pathetic lethargy of those who understood the issues was clearly portrayed, and there was a call to action. {5T 7.1}

She wrote, “As the siege of Jerusalem by the Roman armies was the signal for flight to the Judean Christians, so the assumption of power on the part of our nation in the decree enforcing the papal sabbath will be a warning to us. It will then be time to leave the large cities, preparatory to leaving the smaller ones for retired homes in secluded places among the mountains. . . .”  {5T 464.3}

Pastor Flemons believes the siege of Jerusalem happened in 1888, and that the second siege will be the national Sunday law. The first siege, he says, happened at the unanimous adoption of the Sunday Bill, December 12, 1888. That Bill was defeated in committee by an early Adventist pioneer, Alonzo T. Jones, December 13, 1888.

(For additional details, please read the text of the Bill below. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons and hear him sing “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.”)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that the isotonic flush, which can be ordered separately from TOR’s Total Body Cleanse Kit, is really purified ocean or seawater. Because the average person tends to starve on a full stomach of foods lacking in nutrients, every mineral the body needs can be replenished with the Isotonic Flush.

Two quarts of water with the Isotonic Flush must be consumed within 45 minutes. However, 1 tablespoon of the Isotonic Flush to 1 quart of water is the basic combination. Persons with hypertension must combine only 2 teaspoons of the Isotonic Flush to 1 quart of water. The flush must be done first thing in the morning, when the valve between the stomach and intestines is open.

Once a meal is consumed this valve closes. Once the valve closes, Pastor Flemons only recommends taking one-fourth of a teaspoon in a little water, just to add minerals in the body. This would not be the flush, of course.

When properly done, the flush will provide a sensation of strength and energy, which tends to come later in the day. The benefit is lots of nutrition. But it will give a temporary diarrhea effect. That is the reason Pastor Flemons advises being done with the flush at least an hour or two before needing to exit your home. You do not want to get caught in traffic when a wave of the temporary diarrhea hits.

(For more details, please listen to the recording.)

Worship: Christians, Colorful Cosmetics, Jewelry, and Flashy Clothes #13 / Wellness: Give to Others, Best Practices

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  In the final of a series of discussions about whether Christians should wear colorful cosmetics, jewelry, and flashy clothes, Pastor Flemons focused on the value of receiving and reflecting all that is true, based on a “Thus saith the Lord.” Never should we receive or reflect that which is deceptive or a counterfeit. Using Ezekiel 28:13, where are listed the ten precious stones that were the covering or clothing of Lucifer, while he was still the covering cherub and before he became Satan, Pastor Flemons showed how the fourth gem is analagous to the fourth of the Ten Commandments. The beryl, he noted, is Ezekiel’s description of the color of the “wheel in the middle of a wheel.”

The Bible provides many directives to which is added, “Thus saith the Lord.” It is up to us as to whether we will submit to the truths of the LORD or the counterfeits of Satan. Pastor Flemons says that this is a biblical principle of Bible study that we should depend on as if our lives depend on it. There is no alternative or counterfeit that is worth losing your life. Colorful cosmetics, jewelry, and flashy clothing are counterfeits of the true character of Christ, which all Christians must reflect both outwardly and inwardly. He says, “God wants the shining to come from inner character.”

(For additional details, please read Ezekiel 28:13; 1:16; 36:26; and Matthew 5:16; also listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons and hear him sing Hymn 159, “The Old Rugged Cross.”)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, provided five principles for achieving a “Give to Others” attitude.

1. Pray for opportunities to do something every day to help someone else.

2. Give your time to make life a little easier for someone. It may be as simple as giving someone a glass of water or picking up some item for a neighbor. God will lead you.

3. Give your testimony to others about how you are experiencing wellness the REFRESHING way!

4. Invite others to take better care of their health and refer them to some helpful resources. Feel free to use Times of Refreshing as a referral for resource help. We offer free information online. We offer wellness retreats. We do consultations and coaching. We also have multimedia and health products.

5. Do your best to educate others with what you have learned. This may take the form of verbal suggestions, food preparation classes, and even simple hydrotherapy.

(For more details, please listen to the recording and read Isaiah 58.)

Words of Encouragement

1 Peter 5:7, 8 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. (Also read Ye Shall Receive PowerYRP 340.)

Worship: Christians, Colorful Cosmetics, Jewelry, and Flashy Clothes #12/ Wellness: Never Give Up, Best Practices

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Evidence of one under the control of the Holy Spirit will reflect balance. True dress reform, says Pastor Flemons, promotes the balance of outward and inward adornment. That means that the outward adornment will reflect the inward adornment of a meek and quiet spirit, according to 1 Peter 3:3 and 4.

That also means that you won’t be properly dressed outwardly and possess a devilish attitude. Pastor Flemons says that those whose dress is near perfect and who think that they can now be the dress police and behave any sort of way, should not feel safe or saved. Using the parable of the fig tree in Mark 11:12- 14 and Matthew 21:18-20, Pastor Flemons showed why Christ cursed the fig tree. It is symbolic of what Christ thinks of those whose outward adorning is deceptive. The leaves of the fig tree represent outward adornment.

Those filled with the Holy Spirit will be as the tree planted by the rivers of water, according to Psalm 1:1-3. That tree or person brings forth fruit. We must understand, says Pastor Flemons, that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance or self-control. But possessing this inward character is not enough, when the outward adornment is withering. There are those who believe that all they have to do is love and anything else goes. Not so, says Pastor Flemons, as he refers back to Psalms 1. The Psalmist warns that the leaves or outward adornment must not wither. There must be balance, that whatsoever the Christian does may prosper.

(For additional details, please read Psalm 1:1-3; Isaiah 44:3; Galatians 5:22-24; Mark 11:12-14; Matthew 21:18-20; listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons and hear him sing Hymn 473, “Nearer My God To Thee.” Also, visit this link to GC 427 (426.2 online). Pastor Flemons recommends reading it for the correction to a statement on the previous broadcast made relative to Revelation 19:7 and 8, the connection between the Holy City as the bride of Christ and the righteousness of the saints.)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, provided six principles for achieving a “Never Give Up” attitude.

1. Persevere. When that seems too long, . . .

2. Take one day at a time. When that seems too long, . . .

3. Take one hour at a time. When that seems too long, . . .

4. Take one minute at a time. When that seems too long, . . .

5. Take one second at a time. When that seems too long, . . .

6. Realize this: You don’t have enough time to give up!

And Ecclesiastes 9:4 tells you why: “For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.”

Words of Encouragement

Acts 5:28, 29 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.  (Also read Ye Shall Receive PowerYRP 339.)

Psalm 101:3  I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. (Also read My Life Today, ML 86.)

Worship: Christians, Colorful Cosmetics, Jewelry, and Flashy Clothes #11 / Wellness: In the Sun, Best Practices

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Pastor Flemons shared with us how God must feel about colorful cosmetics, jewelry, and flashy clothes. Using passages of Scripture in Revelation, he says we can get clues. As we learned already, the Bible has coded language that will refer to the church as Zion and a woman. (See Jeremiah 6:2; Revelation 12:17; Zechariah 8:3; Amos 1:2; and Joel 2:23.)

In Revelation 12:1-9, we see that a woman is clothed, not in colorful cosmetics, jewelry and flashy clothes. This woman was “clothed with the sun, and moon under her feet” and a crown of twelve stars. The sun, the moon, and the stars are all reflectors of God’s light. True believers of God also are reflectors of God’s light, which is His character.

Another woman, a very different woman, is described in Revelation 17:1-6. This woman is called a whore. She is described as being “arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.” The description in the passage ends with her being “drunken with the blood of the saints.”

Revelation 19:1-8, is a passage that tells of the judgment of the great whore. It ends, however, with a description of those who truly give praise that is acceptable to God. “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.”

(For additional details, please listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons and hear him sing Hymn 332, “Nothing Between.”)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, provided four tips for getting sufficient sunlight daily.

1. Expose your hands and face to sunlight for at least 15 to 30 minutes a day.

2. Do not get sunlight during the hottest parts of the day, if possible.

3. Do not eat a high fat diet. The combination of a high fat diet and sunlight exposure causes skin cancer.

4. Allow sunshine to enter your home by opening the drapes and blinds.

(For more details, please listen to the recording.)

Words of Encouragement

Acts 2:43-45  And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. (Also read Ye Shall Receive PowerYRP 338.)

Proverbs 4:23  Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (Also read My Life Today, ML 85.)

Worship: Christians, Colorful Cosmetics, Jewelry, and Flashy Clothes #10 / Wellness: Drinking Water, Best Practices

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, as promised, discussed the adornment of Christians from the perspective of the New Testament. The Apostle Paul, in his first letter to his spiritual son Timothy, laid out the principle of dress for Christians. Women are to “adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array [that would be flashy clothes!]; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.”

The same message is echoed by Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, in his first epistle “to the strangers scattered” who are also God’s “elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.” Peter said that any adorning should “not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel.” Peter was clear that the adornment of a true Christian should “be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves.”

Pastor Flemons made the point that you can wear the right thing and still have the wrong attitude. So simply wearing the right thing does not make you holy. “The Bible is clear,” says Pastor Flemons. “We are only safe when we walk with Jesus and obey.”

(For additional details, please read 1 Timothy 2:9, 10 and 1 Peter 3:1-5. Also listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons and hear him sing Hymn 624, “I Want Jesus to Walk With Me.”)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, provided nine tips for drinking sufficient water daily.

  1. 1. Drink distilled or some other soft pure water, like spring water, which has some amount of mineralization.
  2. 2. Divide your weight by 2 to determine your daily water intake. This is the number of ounces of water that you should drink daily. If your urine is yellow, increase the ounces of water until your urine is clear.
  3. 3. Do not drink water with your meals.
  4. 4. Drink water between meals: at least an hour, either before or after mealtime.
  5. 5. Drink 16 ounces of warm lemon water upon rising. It is your wake-up tonic that also encourages a morning bowel movement. Squeeze one lemon into 16 ounces of warmed distilled water to make the lemon water.
  6. 6. Do not drink large amounts of water at one time, except when you are doing a flushing remedy. Drink your quota of water throughout the day.
  7. 7. Substitute herbal tea for your quota of water intake only when the tea is not sweetened.
  8. 8. Drink your water at a regular pace. Don’t drink your water in gulps.
  9. 9. Don’t drink water that is too hot or too cold.

Words of Encouragement

Galatians 3:27, 28  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. (Also read Ye Shall Receive PowerYRP 337.)

1 Corinthians 13:5  [Love] doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil. (Also read My Life Today, ML 84.)

Worship: Christians, Colorful Cosmetics, Jewelry, and Flashy Clothes #9 / Wellness: Self-Control Best Practices

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  It is no news that messages about ourselves and the way that we think or believe and the causes that we support are embedded in the way that we dress. It is common practice to dress according to the code of various corporations, sports organizations, or social clubs. Christianity too has a dress code.

In special coded language, the Bible tells what that dress code is by what it is not. Referring to the church as a woman and Zion, the Bible describes an unfaithful Christian or church as one who decks herself or himself in jewels, flashy clothes, and painted faces, as a whore, who goes after her lovers and forgets God. Obviously, the opposite would be the description of a faithful church or Christian.

“Outward adorning is the symbol of unfaithfulness,” says Pastor Flemons. The inward adorning of pleasantness and the character of Christ is the mark of a true Christian, whose adorning is not that of colorful cosmetics, jewelry, and flashy clothes.

(For additional details, please read Jeremiah 6:2; Jeremiah 4:30; Isaiah 51:16; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Ezekiel 23:26, 27; and Hosea 2:13. Also listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons and hear him sing Hymn 309, “I Surrender All.”)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, provided tips for exercising self-control for your health. Temperance is exercising self-control to avoid all those things that are harmful and to do only in moderation those things are good. He provided thirteen tips.

1. Do not use tobacco or nicotine in any form.

2. Do not drink alcoholic beverages or ingest alcohol in any form.

3. Do not drink coffee or tea even though it may be decaffeinated. This does not refer to herbal tea that has no caffeine in it.

4. Do not overwork.

5. Do not overeat. You should leave the table feeling as though you can still eat more, but you should feel satisfied. If you feel stuffed, you have eaten too much.

6. Cover your limbs as you do the trunk of your body in order to equalize circulation. In other words, exposing your legs and arms hinders the proper circulation of blood.

7. Do not study excessively or do excessive sedentary work, especially at the expense of proper exercise.

8. If you are married, be faithful to your spouse and be temperate in your intimate marital relationships.

9. If unmarried, abstain from intimate relationships that God intended only for the marriage commitment.

10. Do not use drugs in any form.

11. Replace television watching with more wholesome activities. Do not look at or listen to anything that will suggest impure thoughts.

12. Do not wear tight fitting clothing. This applies to men and women. Suspend clothing from the shoulders using suspenders instead of belts (men) or jumpers and dresses (women).

13. Replace competitive activities with useful physical labor that uplifts your fellowman and leaves you with a positive sense of accomplishment.

2 Corinthians 8:3, 4  For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; praying us with much entreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. (Also read Ye Shall Receive PowerYRP 336.)

Worship and Wellness: Thanksgiving: What Are You Thankful For?

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The Thanksgiving morning broadcast featured testimonies of various listeners and FaceBook viewers. One listener, who couldn’t be on live, texted his testimony, which was read aloud. One FB viewer, who also may be the newest, Deborah Swart, lives as far away as the Netherlands! She is thankful for just being alive. Another FB viewer, Junie Benoit, of Altamonte Springs, FL, is thankful for her “amazing” mom.

Listeners Sis. Angela, Sis. Chester, Sis. Stella, Bro. Rush, Sis. JeNoris, and Sis. Rudder: all called in to give their testimonies, which should simply be heard. Each was emotionally moving and cannot be adequately expressed in type. Pastor Flemons testified with a bit of history on the beginnings of the broadcast, including the original music played daily. Sis. Audrey testified about her beginnings with the ministry and a recent Bible study experience with her seven-year-old grandson Alex.

Pastor and Sis. Audrey added passages of praise from Scripture. Pastor read Psalm 136. And Sis. Audrey closed out with Revelation 7.

Worship: Thanksgiving History / Wellness: Thanksgiving Health Tips

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Questions have been circulating around reasons to and reasons not to celebrate Thanksgiving. Statements opposing the celebration of Thanksgiving contend that current thoughts on celebrating it have been based on fiction. Pastor Flemons, therefore, consulted reliable inspirational sources for answers: the Bible and Ellen G. White. He shared his findings that also included historical data that has been commonly agreed as unquestionable.

He showed how the Bible predicts the role of the United States in providing a place to escape from the religious tyranny of the Roman Catholic Church from AD 538 to 1798. The United States was the wilderness to which God’s church escaped for shelter from religious oppression. Both the land and the timing of the arrival of pilgrims in America were fulfilled as predicted. The United States is embodied in the symbol of a two-horned lamblike “beast coming up out of the earth,” as described in Revelation 13:11. It would speak as a dragon, having great power and influence. The two horns indicate the two principles upon which the United States was founded: Protestantism and Republicanism.

Unquestionably, the first Thanksgiving was peacefully observed October 1621, when the pilgrims celebrated their first harvest in the New World. The feast lasted three days, according to Edward Winslow, a documented traveler on the Mayflower in 1620. According to him, ninety Native Americans and fifty-three Colonists attended the feast. The pilgrims had been accustomed to special days of prayer, giving thanks to God, even before their arrival in America. God indeed set up America to receive His people. Sadly, they, like everyone else, made grave mistakes in the process.

Ellen White states this about Thanksgiving: “Our Thanksgivings may be made seasons of great profit to our own souls as well as to others if we improve this opportunity to remember the poor among us…. {AH 474.2}

“There are a hundred ways that can be devised to help the poor in so delicate a manner as to make them feel that they are doing us a favor by receiving our gifts and sympathy. We are to remember that it is more blessed to give than to receive. The attentions of our brethren are most liberal to those whom they wish to honor, and whose respect they desire, but who do not need their help at all. Custom and fashion say, Give to those who will give to you; but this is not the Bible rule of giving. The word of God declares against this way of gratifying self in thus bestowing our gifts, and says, ‘He that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.’ {AH 474.3}

“. . . Let us begin to think what we can do for God’s needy ones. We can make them through ourselves the recipients of God’s blessings. Think what widow, what orphan, what poor family you can relieve, not in a way to make a great parade about the matter, but be as a channel through which the Lord’s substance shall flow as a blessing to His poor…. “{AH 474.4}

[For additional details, please read Jeremiah 6:22 Corinthians 11:2, 3; Revelation 12:6, 14-17; 13:1-11; and Ellen G. White’s Adventist HomeAH 474: “How Shall We Observe Thanksgiving?” Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons and hear him sing Hymn 557, “Come, Ye Thankful People.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, offered tips for staying healthy through Thanksgiving celebrations.

  1. 1. Do not stuff down your meal. Take time to completely chew until your food is liquified before swallowing.
  2. 2. Do not eat too many varieties. Stick with three or four selections.
  3. 3. Drink plenty of water.
  4. 4. Do not drink during mealtime. Drink sufficiently between meals, and you will not be thirsty during meals.
  5. 5. Avoid all alcoholic beverages.
  6. 6. Avoid an excess of sugary foods.
  7. 7. Do not eat too late. Allow five hours between your final meal and bedtime, which ideally should be 9:30 p.m.
  8. 8. Take a litte stroll after a meal.
  9. 9. Do something good for others.
  10. 10. Take time to thank GOD.

Sharing Time  One listener testified about her preThanksgiving celebration and the blessings of health through what she has learned and received as a result of TORWM. Sis. Chester testified and then asked about a book and newsletter she just received, which introduced Apocalypse Ministries’ School of the Loud Cry.

Thanksgiving Day will be a day of testimonies. Please prepare yours!

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers call-in listener 6349, who wants God to be magnified in her life and in all of our lives and that she will always be willing to of all that GOD asks. She wants us to pray for TOR, that all of its needs be met. Sis. Chester asked that we pray for her, that she will be fully commit to Jesus Christ. Also pray for Sis. Mercy and all those challenged by the fires throughout California.

Pray also for those undergoing surgery today. Pray for all grieving families (especially widows and widowers). Pray for those fighting for their lives and those fighting depression and other mental conditions. Also pray for people living in areas at risk of being destroyed by hurricanes and tornadoes and other natural disasters, like earthquakes, sinkholes, floods, ice storms, and wildfires.

Remember to continue praying for the entire TOR broadcast family, that GOD will be free to bless us in the way that HE really wants to in 2018. Thank you!
