Worship: Doing Business on the Sabbath / Wellness: Better Than Hot Chocolate

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The Sabbath should be honored, says Pastor Flemons. He read through the first twenty-two verses of Nehemiah 13, and offered commentary. He showed how from the passage we can draw principles of keeping the Sabbath from a business perspective.

Unless there is a medical emergency, no buying and selling should be done during the sacred hours of the Sabbath. Preparing anything on Sabbath that is to be sold profanes the Sabbath. When you take a trip that includes the Sabbath hours, don’t eat out at a restaurant. Prepare sandwiches and foods that can keep well for your Sabbath meal. Fasting may be necessary and a good thing to do for that Sabbath.

It is a part of good Sabbath planning to purchase sufficient gas for your car prior to the Sabbath hours. Also, says Pastor Flemons, check your mail after the Sabbath hours have passed. You have no control over when the mail will be delivered, but you do control when you check it. Often in mail will be bills and other business related matters that will distract the mind from sacred thoughts.

Lawn care should have been done prior to the sacred hours, even if you pay someone else to do the work, says Pastor Flemons. If they won’t comply with your request to not do the lawn care on Sabbath, then change to the service that will comply, or do it yourself and get good exercise in the process.

Just realize that God cannot bless us once we know and still dishonor the Sabbath, says Pastor Flemons. And James 4:17 says this: “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

(For additional details, please read Nehemiah 13:1-22. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Shelem Flemons, and hear him recite Hymn 40, “The Dawn of God’s Dear Sabbath.”)

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says for about 30 years, he has been a medical missionary and always knew about the benefits of carob as a substitute for chocolate. Over the years, he has used carob in a hot drink recipe that replaces hot chocolate. He would add carob to water, soy or almond milk in a pot, heat it, while constantly whisking to get all the lumps out, and add agave to sweeten it. What he just learned is to simply put those ingredients in the VitaMix and let it run for about 5 minutes. “It was delicious!” He says it is better than hot chocolate.

He personally believes that the locusts John the Baptist ate were seed pods of the carob or locust tree. Nevertheless, he shared nine nutritional benefits of carob powder or flour, which is an alternative to cocoa powder. Carob contains virtually no fat. It contains no sodium. It is high in calcium, but contains no oxalates, which inhibit the absorption of calcium. It is high in fiber and helps relieve diarrhea.

It is high in antioxidants, especially gallic acid and flavonoids, which “reduce oxidative stress.” Gallic acid scavenges free radicals and kills cancer cells. “Flavonoids have anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidiabetic, and neuroprotective abilities.”

Finally, it is gluten-free, caffeine-free, and tyramine-free. “According to the National Headache Foundation, foods that contain tyramine may trigger migraine headaches. . . chocolate contains tyramine,. . . Carob doesn’t contain tyramine and is considered safe to eat if you get migraines.”

Pray also for those undergoing surgery today. Pray for all grieving families (especially widows and widowers). Pray for those fighting for their lives and those fighting depression and other mental conditions. Also pray for people living in areas at risk of being destroyed by hurricanes and tornadoes and other natural disasters, like earthquakes, sinkholes, floods, ice storms, and wildfires.

Remember to continue praying for the entire TOR broadcast family, that GOD will be free to bless us in the way that HE really wants to in 2018. Thank you!
