Worship: For Heaven’s Sake No amount of persecution can take away the joy that comes from serving and loving the Lord, says Pastor Flemons. He referred to the account of the Apostle Paul, whose life turned miserable once he decided to follow Jesus. He was even persecuted by the church to which he once belonged and was highly regarded. These persecutions are recounted in a list in 2 Corinthians 11:22-28, which Pastor Flemons read to listeners.
Four of the five times the Apostle Paul was held by the Jews, he was beaten with forty strips. Three times he was beaten with rods. He was stoned. He was shipwrecked three times. He spent a night and a day in depths of the sea. “In journeyings often,” he said, “in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren. In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.”
“But none of these things move me,” added Paul, “neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).
The same goes for us, says Pastor Flemons. “Joy comes only from following Jesus.”

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed the effects of sugar on the bones. An average of 52 teaspoons of sugar is consumed daily, says Pastor Flemons. Sugar is acidic, and it has no nutritive value at all. Therefore, the more sugar consumed, the more the bones are drained of calcium to alkalinize the blood. Consequently, calcification sets in the joints. The result is arthritis and osteoporosis.
Be sparing with sweets and remain healthy and strong. Sweets no more than twice a week may be okay, says Pastor Flemons. But it is better to use molasses or honey. They are sweet and nutritious.
