Worship: Mission of the Remnant Church / Wellness: Elderberry

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
“The challenge in the remnant church is Pharisaism,” says Pastor Flemons, who promises to present a series called “Exceeding the Righteousness of the Pharisees.” Our righteousness, according to Jesus, must exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees in order to be saved. (Read Matthew 5:20.) Pastor Flemons offered Isaiah 58 as the antidote to Pharisaism. He then read the first fourteen verses of the chapter and commented occasionally, emphasizing its expressed balance of the law and love.

In fact, love, he says, involves reaching out to the afflicted soul for restoration and salvation. He says that we are missing the mark if we are not ministering according to Isaiah 58.

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that elderberry is “a great remedy” for hay fever, sinus problems, and respiratory challenges during this season. He’s had success in using it. However, he shared a portion of a WebMD.com article, because it provided “an interesting overview” on the various uses of elderberry, although it falls short of confirming the effectiveness of elderberry for many of the uses named.

The article clarifies right upfront that the elderberry as discussed is not to be confused with the “American Elder, Elderflower, or Dwarf Elder.” This elderberry is “the dark purple berry from the European elder tree,” which is used medicinally for respiratory problems and conditions, including the H1N1 “swine” flu. Also, it has been used to boost immune functions and for HIV/AIDS. It has been used for pain, including sciatica, neuralgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome, among other health challenges, including heart disease, chronic fatigue, and cancer, according to the article.

However, Pastor Flemons focused on the use of elderberry for this season of allergies and explained how allergies and their symptoms happen. “If you have allergies,” he says, “don’t overdue it in consuming protein,” which increases your histamine levels, which manifests in allergy symptoms. Lower your histamine and allergy symptoms, he says, by eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, and of course using elderberry. Simply, take a couple of tablespoons of liquid elderberry in some water, says Pastor Flemons. Take it two or three times a day during high season to calm allergies.
