Worship: Treasures New and Old / Wellness: The REFRESHING Way

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake When you study the Bible, first pray that God will press home the truth to your heart. That was the prayer of Pastor Flemons at the outset of the segment. Then he shared several readings that describe the spiritual process of searching for the hidden treasures of truth and what is to be the sure reward.

“In the Bible the truth is compared to treasure hid in a field, the which, when a man hath found, he hideth; and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. He desires the privilege of searching every part of the field, that he may make himself the possessor of all its treasures. I call upon my brethren in the name of the Lord to sink the shaft deep into the mines of truth.—Manuscript 35, 1901. (“Consumers, but not Producers, April 25, 1901.) {1MR 38.2}

“So in searching the field and digging for the precious jewels of truth, hidden treasures are discerned. Unexpectedly we find precious ore that is to be gathered and treasured. And the search is to be continued. Hitherto very much of the treasure found has lain near the surface, and was easily obtained. When the search is properly conducted every effort is made to keep a pure understanding and heart. When the mind is kept open and is constantly searching the field of revelation, we shall find rich deposits of truth. Old truths will be revealed in new aspects, and truths will appear which have been overlooked in the search.”—Manuscript 75, 1897, 3. (“The Position God’s People Should Occupy, 1897.)  {1MR 37.4}

“There is nothing as beautiful as the truth,” says Pastor Flemons. However, he was quick to caution that every new gem of truth be found to be in harmony with old truths, or else discarded.

[For further details, read Matthew 13:52; Jeremiah 6:16; 1 John 5:4; 1 MR 37.4; 1MR 38.1; 1 MR 38.2; 1 MR 33.4. Also listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 27, “Give Me the Bible.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake The REFRESHING Way is an easy guide for changing your lifestyle. Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, explained the details of the acronym: REFRESHING. The R is for Rely on God. The E is for Eat healthy. The F is for Fresh air. The second R is for Rest. The E is for Exercise. The S is for Self-Control. The H is for H2O – Water. The I is for In the sun. The N is for Never give up. And the G is for Give to others.

If you follow the REFRESHING Way guidelines, you will reduce stress by relying on God. You will adopt a totally plant-based diet, get fresh air throughout every day, and rest by 9:30 at least most nights, if not every night. You will exercise daily, be temperate in all things, and avoid all harmful things. You will drink adequate amounts of water and/or unsweetened herbal teas, and get the sunlight your body requires daily. Besides all these, you will be determined to stay the course and to help others do the same.

Pastor Flemons advised that no herbal remedy or drug is a panacea. He says that there must also be a change in the lifestyle.

Worship: 7 Bible Must-Dos / Wellness: Breathe to Lower HBP

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake We must do seven things with our Bibles, says Pastor Flemons.

For 1. Study the Bible to see what it says for yourself. 2. Search the scriptures for answers to your questions. 3. Receive the Word from others with all readiness of mind; but then confirm that the Word really does say so or not. 4. Treasure the Word in your heart; it produces obedience. 5. Simply obey, without looking for a “good” reason to disobey. 6. Don’t simply hear the Word; do what it says. 7. Know the Bible.

[For further details, read 2 Timothy 2:15; John 5:39; Acts 17:11; Revelation 3:10; 1 Samuel 15:22; James 1:22; 2 Timothy 3:15. Also listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 27, “Give Me the Bible.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that people with high blood pressure need to know how to simply pray and breathe to lower it. He says, “Remember 7, 9, and 11.” Calmly inhale for 7 seconds. Hold that breath for 9 seconds. Then exhale it for 11 seconds. Then check your blood pressure.

Words of Encouragement

 Psalm 71:9 Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.  (Also read Conflict and Courage for June 29, CC 186.)

Galatians 5:22, 23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Also read With God at Dawn for June 29, WGD 182.)

Worship: Milk, Good for the Soul / Wellness: Erectile Dysfunction Due to Poor Circulation

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake When God shows us our wrong, says Pastor Flemons, we should immediately humble ourselves, as did David. That is the very reason that David was called a man after God’s own heart, he says. Repentance must be complete and real. Repentance must bring about decided changes in the lifestyle.

In Isaiah 28:9, those who are weaned from the milk refers to those weaned from doctrine. But it also refers to the condition of the person. To be weaned means to be humble. This is talking about the state of repentance, says Pastor Flemons. The person who has just been weaned has not yet achieved a practice of righteousness. They have just seen themselves from a different perspective. They see their wrong, and they are not proud. Nor are they arrogant. They are repentant and are humbly taught the ways of righteousness. True repentance will be seen in the spirit of the repentant one.

When any excuse is made, with an apology, there is no true repentance, no true surrender of the heart to God, says Pastor Flemons. In such cases, the hurt remains. In such cases, Jesus will pay no restitution, Pastor says. A true confession will elicit an “I forgive you” from Jesus and the true Christian. In fact, you cannot truly repent, unless there is true confession. The evidence of true repentance is a confession and decided change that will show that it is well with the soul.

[For further details, read 2 Timothy 2:15; Isaiah 28:9; Hebrews 5:12; Psalm 131; Acts 3:19; “The Sinner’s Need of Christ,” in Ellen G. White’s Steps to Christ, p. 17; Psalm 116:15; Matthew 6:12. Also listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 530, “It Is Well With My Soul .”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed the reason for erectile dysfunction. He says that it is a result of poor circulation. He says that you must first understand that an erection results from the male organ being filled with blood. This, then, is dependent upon uninhibited blood flow. When blood circulation is poor, then having a normal erection is difficult.

Proper nutrition will help ensure a normal healthy blood flow. It is essential, says Pastor Flemons, to adopt a total plant-based diet. He says eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables. He says eat a variety of beans and whole grains, as well as nuts and seeds, to get the protein that the body requires.

He added, “The Bible says that ‘the life of the flesh is in the blood.’ And it says that ‘a sound heart is the life of the flesh.'” It means that “good blood and its proper circulation is the life of our flesh.” Read Leviticus 17:11 and Proverbs 14:30.

Words of Encouragement

1 Chronicles 29:9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord. (Also read 1 Chronicles 29:1-14 and Conflict and Courage for June 28, CC 185.)

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 14 / Wellness: The Natural Prostate Refresher

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake It is the goal of Rome to undo all that Protestantism achieved against her, says Pastor Flemons. For the morning’s segment, he read and commented on GC88 579.1 – 581.1, which explains and inspired his comment. In part, it says this:

“. . .The assertion that God’s judgments are visited upon men for their violation of the Sunday-sabbath, will be repeated; already it is beginning to be urged. And a movement to enforce Sunday observance is fast gaining ground. {GC88 579.1}

“Protestants little know what they are doing when they propose to accept the aid of Rome in the work of Sunday exaltation. While they are bent upon the accomplishment of their purpose, Rome is aiming to re-establish her power, to recover her lost supremacy. Let history testify of her artful and persistent efforts to insinuate herself into the affairs of nations; and having gained a foothold, to further her own aims, even at the ruin of princes and people. Romanism openly puts forth the claim that the pope ‘can pronounce sentences and judgments in contradiction to the right of nations, to the law of God and man.‘ [The “Decretalia.”] {GC88 580.2}

“God’s Word has given warning of the impending danger; let this be unheeded, and the Protestant world will learn what the purposes of Rome really are, only when it is too late to escape the snare. She is silently growing into power. Her doctrines are exerting their influence in legislative halls, in the churches, and in the hearts of men. She is piling up her lofty and massive structures, in the secret recesses of which her former persecutions will be repeated. Stealthily and unsuspectedly she is strengthening her forces to further her own ends when the time shall come for her to strike. All that she desires is vantage-ground, and this is already being given her. We shall soon see and shall feel what the purpose of the Roman element is. Whoever shall believe and obey the Word of God will thereby incur reproach and persecution.” {GC88 581.1}

That is why you need to be a medical missionary, says Pastor Flemons. It will be the field of labor that will be in demand during the final period of religious aggression.

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s Counsels on Health, CH 506.1; Ellen G. White’s A Call to Medical Evangelism, CME 13.2; Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of The Great Controversy, Chapter 35: “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” GC88 563, specifically GC88 579.1 – 581.1 (for today). Also, read Revelation 13 and 14; and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 327, “I’d Rather Have Jesus.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed prostate issues and TORSOE’s Prostate Refresher, which addresses prostate problems. When men reach the age of 50 and beyond, the prostate tends to lose nutrients that once helped it function properly. A diet that includes sugary foods and fatty foods and poor lifestyle habits also contribute to prostate problems, including the constant need to flow, the inability to empty, and even cancer.

Prostate Refresher is designed to help restore proper functioning of the prostate. It contains these herbs: Saw Palmetto, Nettle, Pygeum Bark, and the sweetener Stevia, which is usually optional. It has helped the prostate of many men to get the nutrition it needs and return to its normal size, says Pastor Flemons.

Still, no herbal formula or drug is a panacea. You must make other changes as well. You must adopt healthy lifestyle changes. And your diet needs to be totally plant-based.

Words of Encouragement

2 Samuel 18:17 And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him. (Also read 2 Samuel 18:1-18 and Conflict and Courage for June 27, CC 184.)

Philippians 1:10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. (Also read With God at Dawn for June 27, WGD 180.)

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 13 / Wellness: Natural Remedy for Erectile Dysfunction

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake “We have got to be faithful. . .for eternity will tell for our faithfulness. . .our test of loyalty” says Pastor Flemons. For the morning’s segment, he read and commented on GC88 576.1 to 578.3.

“. . .  In the sixteenth century a papal council plainly declared: ‘Let all Christians remember that the seventh day was consecrated by God, and hath been received and observed, not only by the Jews, but by all others who pretend to worship God; though we Christians have changed their Sabbath into the Lord’s day.’ Those who were tampering with the divine law were not ignorant of the character of their work. They were deliberately setting themselves above God. {GC88 577.2}

“The churches of Africa held the Sabbath as it was held by the papal church before her complete apostasy. While they kept the seventh day in obedience to the commandment of God, they abstained from labor on the Sunday in conformity to the custom of the church. Upon obtaining supreme power, Rome had trampled upon the Sabbath of God to exalt her own; but the churches of Africa, hidden for nearly a thousand years, did not share in this apostasy. When brought under the sway of Rome, they were forced to set aside the true and exalt the false Sabbath; but no sooner had they regained their independence than they returned to obedience to the fourth commandment. [See Appendix, Note 12.] {GC88 578.1}

“. . . The influence of Rome in the countries that once acknowledged her dominion, is still far from being destroyed. And prophecy foretells a restoration of her power. ‘I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed; and all the world wondered after the beast.’ [Revelation 13:3.] The infliction of the deadly wound points to the abolition of the papacy in 1798. After this, says the prophet, ‘His deadly wound was healed; and all the world wondered after the beast.’ Paul states plainly that the man of sin will continue until the second advent. [2 Thessalonians 2:8.] To the very close of time he will carry forward his work of deception. And the Revelator declares, also referring to the papacy, ‘All that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life.’ [Revelation 13:8.] In both the Old and the New World, papacy will receive homage in the honor paid to the Sunday institution, that rests solely upon the authority of the Romish Church. ” {GC88 578.3}

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of The Great Controversy, Chapter 35: “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” GC88 563, specifically GC88 576.1 – 578.3 (for today). Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 602, “O Brother, Be Faithful.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed erectile dysfunction, which he says is simply a hardening of the arteries that are connected to the male organ.

TORSOE has developed an herbal formula referred to as the Man’s Man Tonic. Officially, it is called Erectile, Just Function. Ingredients are the “natural aphrodisiac,” called horny goat weed; yohimbe, the “herbal viagra”; the superfood maca; another natural aphrodisiac, damiana; known in some circles as the “the Viagra of the Amazon” is muira puama; also ginseng; and tribulus terrestris. Of course stevia, the natural sweetener, is optional. The formula is designed to reopen and promote blood flow to the clogged arteries leading to the male organ.

Erectile, Just Function is not currently on the website; but it will be very soon. Until then, it can be ordered by phone at 855-867-4600.

Words of Encouragement

2 Samuel 17:14 The Lord had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom. (Also read 2 Samuel 16:15-17:24 Conflict and Courage for June 26, CC 183.)

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  (Also read With God at Dawn for June 26, WGD 179.)

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 12 / Wellness: Benefits of Lung Immune Tea

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake “Think about all the different inventions that the devil gives to keep us from sticking with the Bible,” says Pastor Flemons. He adds, “The word of God must be our defense. . . . If you want to know how the Sunday law is going to be brought on in the last days, just see how it was brought on back in the Dark Ages.” Then he read GC88 573.2 – 576.1, which include these statements:

“As the papacy became firmly established, the work of Sunday exaltation was continued. For a time the people engaged in agricultural labor when not attending church, and the seventh day was still regarded as the Sabbath. But steadily a change was effected. Those in holy office were forbidden to pass judgment in any civil controversy on the Sunday. Soon after, all persons, of whatever rank, were commanded to refrain from common labor, on pain of a fine for freemen, and stripes in the case of servants. Later it was decreed, that rich men should be punished with the loss of half of their estates; and finally, that if still obstinate they should be made slaves. The lower classes were to suffer perpetual banishment.  {GC88 574.3}

” . . . The people questioned the right of their teachers to set aside the positive declaration of Jehovah, ‘The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God,’ in order to honor the day of the sun. To supply the lack of Bible testimony, other expedients were necessary. A zealous advocate of Sunday, who about the close of the twelfth century visited the churches of England, was resisted by faithful witnesses for the truth; and so fruitless were his efforts that he departed from the country for a season, and cast about him for some means to enforce his teachings. When he returned, the lack was supplied, and in his after-labors he met with greater success. He brought with him a roll purporting to be from God himself, which contained the needed command for Sunday observance, with awful threats to terrify the disobedient. This precious document—as base a counterfeit as the institution it supported—was said to have fallen from Heaven, and to have been found in Jerusalem, upon the altar of St. Simeon, in Golgotha. But in fact, the pontifical palace at Rome was the source whence it proceeded. Frauds and forgeries to advance the power and prosperity of the church have in all ages been esteemed lawful by the papal hierarchy.”  {GC88 575.4}

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed the TORSOE’s Lung Immune Tea, which contains pau d’arco, echinacea, marshmellow, red clover, chaparral, comfrey, chickweed, St. John’s wort, nettle, and optionally, stevia. Together, these herbs build the immune system and address lung issues, as well as sinus problems. Currently, it is not on the website, but it can be ordered by phone. Just call 855-867-4600.

Words of Encouragement

Micah 7:8, 9 When I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me. I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me.  (Also read Conflict and Courage for June 24, CC 182.)

1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. (Also read With God at Dawn for June 25, WGD 178.)

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 11 / Wellness: Why Some Can Eat Anything and Not Get Sick!

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake “True education is to train missionaries, ” says Pastor Flemons. Rather than train missionaries, he says, “What our education system does today is to destroy faith.”

“A day of great intellectual darkness has been shown to be favorable to the success of popery. It will yet be demonstrated that a day of great intellectual light is equally favorable for its success. In past ages, when men were without God’s Word, and without the knowledge of the truth, their eyes were blindfolded, and thousands were ensnared, not seeing the net spread for their feet. In this generation there are many whose eyes become dazzled by the glare of human speculations, ‘science falsely so-called;’ they discern not the net, and walk into it as readily as if blindfolded. God designed that man’s intellectual powers should be held as a gift from his Maker, and should be employed in the service of truth and righteousness; but when pride and ambition are cherished, and men exalt their own theories above the Word of God, then intelligence can accomplish greater harm than ignorance. Thus the false science of the nineteenth century, which undermines faith in the Bible, will prove as successful in preparing the way for the acceptance of the papacy, with its pleasing forms, as did the withholding of knowledge in opening the way for its aggrandizement in the Dark Ages.”  {GC88 572.3}

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of The Great Controversy, Chapter 35: “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” GC88 563 and specifically GC88 572.3 – 573.1 (for today);. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 109, “Marvelous Grace.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that some appear to be able to eat whatever they want and not get sick! When people don’t get sick immediately, they are fully persuaded that they can continue without harm eating the same way: transgressing the laws of health.

However, “Nature bears abuse as long as she can without resisting; then she arouses and makes a mighty effort to rid herself of the encumbrances and evil treatment she has suffered. Then come headache, chills, fevers, nervousness, paralysis, and other evils too numerous to mention. A wrong course of eating or drinking destroys health and with it the sweetness of life. Oh, how many times have you purchased what you called a good meal at the expense of a fevered system, loss of appetite, and loss of sleep! Inability to enjoy food, a sleepless night, hours of suffering,—all for a meal in which taste was gratified! {CD 125.2}

“Nor does it end with the transgressor; the effects of his indulgence are seen in his offspring, and thus the evil is passed down from generation to generation.” {CD 120.1}

You see, “Eventually, nature cries out!”

Words of Encouragement

Psalm 3:3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.   (Also read 2 Samuel 14:25-15:30 and Conflict and Courage for June 24, CC 181.)

Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Also read With God at Dawn for June 24, WGD 177.)

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 10 / Wellness: You Can Reverse Arthritis

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake “This is an age of moral darkness.” Even among God’s so-called Remnant, there is “a spirit of condemnation,” says Pastor Flemons. That is because of the changes occurring among Protestant churches, rather than in the Roman Catholic Church, as is often claimed.

“The Romish Church now presents a fair front to the world, covering with apologies her record of horrible cruelties. She has clothed herself in Christ-like garments; but she is unchanged. Every principle of popery that existed in past ages exists today. The doctrines devised in the darkest ages are still held. Let none deceive themselves. The popery that Protestants are now so ready to honor is the same that ruled the world in the days of the Reformation, when men of God stood up, at the peril of their lives, to expose her iniquity. She possesses the same pride and arrogant assumption that lorded it over kings and princes, and claimed the prerogatives of God. Her spirit is no less cruel and despotic now than when she crushed out human liberty, and slew the saints of the Most High. ” {GC88 570.3}

“It is not without reason that the claim has been put forth in Protestant countries, that Catholicism differs less widely from Protestantism than in former times. There has been a change; but the change is not in the papacy. Catholicism indeed resembles much of the Protestantism that now exists, because Protestantism has so greatly degenerated since the days of the reformers. {GC88 571.2}

“As the Protestant churches have been seeking the favor of the world, false charity has blinded their eyes. They do not see but that it is right to believe good of all evil; and as the inevitable result, they will finally believe evil of all good. Instead of standing in defense of the faith once delivered to the saints, they are now, as it were, apologizing to Rome for their uncharitable opinion of her, begging pardon for their bigotry.”  {GC88 571.3}

If, according to algebra, A equals B, and B equals C, then A equals C,” says Pastor Flemons. Since, the Remnant Church (A) has become like Apostate Protestant churches (B), which are like the Papacy (C), then the Remnant Church (A) has become like the Papacy (C). That is why the former official attitude of the Remnant Church toward the Catholic Church has now been consigned to some “historical trash heap.”

“A prayerful study of the Bible would show Protestants the real character of the papacy, and would cause them to abhor and to shun it; but many are so wise in their own conceit that they feel no need of humbly seeking God that they may be led into the truth. Although priding themselves on their enlightenment, they are ignorant both of the Scriptures and of the power of God. They must have some means of quieting their consciences; and they seek that which is least spiritual and humiliating. What they desire is a method of forgetting God which shall pass as a method of remembering him. The papacy is well adapted to meet the wants of all these. It is prepared for two classes of mankind, embracing nearly the whole world,—those who would be saved by their merits, and those who would be saved in their sins. Here is the secret of its power.” {GC88 572.2}

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of The Great Controversy, Chapter 35: “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” GC88 563 and specifically GC88 570.2 – 572.2 (for today). Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that you can reverse osteoarthritis and ease the trouble in your joints. Joints, which allow mobility, are essential to body movements, including sitting and standing. Such mobility is hindered in cases of osteoarthritis. What basically has happened is that calcium has gotten caught between the bones in the joints and then irritates all movements of the joint.

Because of a diet of too much animal protein, which is concentrated protein, too much acid has gotten into the bloodstream. Thus, the body must quickly alkalinize the blood. The quickest way for it to do this is to pull calcium from the bones. Hence, the calcium gets lodged between the bones in the joints and causes inflammation.

The answer is in getting rid of the inflammation and aiding the body in reversing the bloodstream from a state of acidity to alkalinity. It is all in the diet and lifestyle. Adopt a total plant-based diet and healthy lifestyle. But first, feast on juices. You will begin to see a difference, says Pastor Flemons, in only about two or three days.

[For more details, please listen to the recording.]

2 Samuel 12:14 By this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme.  (Also read 2 Samuel 12:1-14 andConflict and Courage for June 23, CC 180.)

Colossians 2:6, 7 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. (Also read With God at Dawn for June 23, WGD 176.)

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 9 / Wellness: You Can Reverse Diabetes

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake The worship segment for the morning was a reading from “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” in Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of the Great Controversy. In part he read these final paragraphs:

“It is Satan’s constant effort to misrepresent the character of God, the nature of sin, and the real issues at stake in the great controversy. His sophistry lessens the obligation of the divine law, and gives men license to sin. At the same time he causes them to cherish false conceptions of God, so that they regard him with fear and hate, rather than with love. The cruelty inherent in his own character is attributed to the Creator; it is embodied in systems of religion, and expressed in modes of worship. Thus the minds of men are blinded, and Satan secures them as his agents to war against God. By perverted conceptions of the divine attributes, heathen nations were led to believe human sacrifices necessary to secure the favor of Deity; and horrible cruelties have been perpetrated under the various forms of idolatry. The Romish Church, uniting the forms of paganism and Christianity, and, like paganism, misrepresenting the character of God, has resorted to practices no less cruel and revolting. In the days of Rome’s supremacy, there were instruments of torture to compel assent to her doctrines. There was the stake for those who would not concede to her claims. There were massacres on a scale that will never be known until revealed in the Judgment. Dignitaries of the church studied, under Satan their master, to invent means to cause the greatest possible torture, and not end the life of their victim. The infernal process was repeated to the utmost limit of human endurance, until nature gave up the struggle, and the sufferer hailed death as a sweet release.”  {GC88 568.4}

Such was the fate of Rome’s opponents. For her adherents she had the discipline of the scourge, of famishing hunger, of bodily austerities in every conceivable, heartsickening form. To secure the favor of Heaven, penitents violated the laws of God by violating the laws of nature. They were taught to sunder every tie which he has formed to bless and gladden man’s earthly sojourn. The churchyard contains millions of victims, who spent their lives in vain endeavors to subdue their natural affections, to repress, as offensive to God, every thought and feeling of sympathy with their fellow-creatures. {GC88 569.1

If we desire to understand the determined cruelty of Satan, manifested for hundreds of years, not among those who never heard of God, but in the very heart and throughout the extent of Christendom, we have only to look at the history of Romanism. Through this mammoth system of deception the prince of evil achieves his purpose of bringing dishonor to God and wretchedness to man. And as we see how he succeeds in disguising himself, and accomplishing his work through the leaders of the church, we may better understand why he has so great antipathy to the Bible. If that book is read, the mercy and love of God will be revealed; it will be seen that he lays upon men none of these heavy burdens. All that he asks is a broken and contrite heart, a humble, obedient spirit.” {GC88 570.1}

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of The Great Controversy, Chapter 35: “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” GC88 563 and GC88 567.2-570.1 (for today). Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 27, “Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that the majority of diabetics could see a reversal of type 2 diabetes, often within six months, if they would follow an exciting diet of various total plant-based foods and adopt a healthy lifestyle. He explained how diabetes develops. It may surprise you that it is not caused by eating a lot of sugary foods, even though those with diabetes must largely restrict their sugar intake. Diabetes is caused, he says, by consuming lots of fats and toxins that block the connection between the insulin receptors and the insulin that the body produces. When the body system is cleansed of the fats and toxins, then the cells of the body become more responsive to the insulin.

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with her comments and a reading from Chapter 14, “Prayer and Reverence,” in the book Power of Prayer, a compilation of Ellen G. White’s statements on prayer. Today’s selected statements in part included these: “Humility and reverence should characterize the deportment of all who come into the presence of God.” “The hour and place of prayer are sacred, because God is there.” “To the humble believing soul, the house of God on earth is the gate of heaven.” “Reverence should be shown also for the name of God. Never should that name be spoken lightly or thoughtlessly.” (Also read Leviticus 19:30.)

Pastor Flemons will be speaking at the Walnut Church of SDA, 8501 Hwy 25, Marshall, NC 28753. Two services are scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, the Sabbath, June 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today Listener 3637, who wants to be able to stick to the diet to overcome diabetes, that God would give him an appetite for the total plant-based foods and overcome the desire for sweets.

Pray for Sis. Odessa, who is tired but made it safely to Selma, Alabama. Pray for the family, as the funeral is today. And pray for Sis. Odessa’s return to Oklahoma tomorrow.

Remember to pray for a 21-year-old widow (Omelia) whose husband was witness to a murder case, but was gunned down with 22 bullets. Left is his young family, including an unborn child, who is now struggling in so many ways. Prayers and financial offerings are welcome. Send contributions to this ministry and mark it for Omelia.

Pray for the unspoken prayer requests of each heart.

Words of Encouragement

2 Samuel 12:7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man.  (Also read 2 Samuel 12:1-14 andConflict and Courage for June 22, CC 179.)

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.  (Also read With God at Dawn for June 22, WGD 175.)

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 8 / Wellness: The Spirit in Your Bedroom

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake Your external display may only reveal your inward deficiency, whether it is personal or that of an organization or denomination.

“This outward splendor, pomp, and ceremony, that only mocks the longings of the sin-sick soul, is an evidence of inward corruption. The religion of Christ needs not such attractions to recommend it. In the light shining from the cross, true Christianity appears so pure and lovely that no external decorations can enhance its true worth. It is the beauty of holiness, a meek and quiet spirit, which is of value with God. {GC88 566.3}

“Brilliancy of style is not necessarily an index of pure, elevated thought. High conceptions of art, delicate refinement of taste, often exist in minds that are earthly and sensual. They are often employed by Satan to lead men to forget the necessities of the soul, to lose sight of the future, immortal life, to turn away from their infinite Helper, and to live for this world alone.  {GC88 566.4}

“A religion of externals is attractive to the unrenewed heart. The pomp and ceremony of the Catholic worship have a seductive, bewitching power, by which many are deceived; and they come to look upon the Roman Church as the very gate of Heaven. None but those who have planted their feet firmly upon the foundation of truth, and whose hearts are renewed by the Spirit of God, are proof against her influence. Thousands who have not an experimental knowledge of Christ will be led to accept the forms of godliness without the power. Such a religion is just what the multitudes desire. {GC88 567.1}

But “The Spirit of God,” says Pastor Flemons, “is not in such manifestations.” You may feel more holy, but you are not. It is far better to walk with God in quiet communion.

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of The Great Controversy, Chapter 35: “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” GC88 563 and GC88 566 and 567 (for today); 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 495, “Near to the Heart of God.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that the spirit in your bedroom may keep you from sleeping. When you are preparing to sleep, go peacefully. Don’t argue. Don’t watch TV. Don’t do anything that would invite an evil and restless spirit into your bedroom.
