Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 5 / Wellness: How to Guarantee Restless Sleep

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake “The Constitution of the United States guarantees liberty of conscience. Nothing is dearer or more fundamental. Pope Pius IX., in his Encyclical Letter of August 15, 1854, said: ‘The absurd and erroneous doctrines or ravings in defense of liberty of conscience, are a most pestilential error—a pest, of all others, most to be dreaded in a State.’ The same pope, in his Encyclical Letter of December 8, 1864, anathematized ‘those who assert the liberty of conscience and of religious worship,’ also ‘all such as maintain that the church may not employ force.’ {GC88 564.4}

“The pacific tone of Rome in the United States does not imply a change of heart. She is tolerant where she is helpless. Says Bishop O’Connor: ‘Religious liberty is merely endured until the opposite can be carried into effect without peril to the Catholic world.’” “The archbishop of St. Louis once said: ‘Heresy and unbelief are crimes; and in Christian countries, as in Italy and Spain, for instance, where all the people are Catholics, and where the Catholic religion is an essential part of the law of the land, they are punished as other crimes.’”  {GC88 564.5}

“Every cardinal, archbishop, and bishop in the Catholic Church takes an oath of allegiance to the pope, in which occur the following words: ‘Heretics, schismatics, and rebels to our said lord the pope, or his aforesaid successors, I will to my utmost persecute and oppose.’” {GC88 565.1}

This is the attitude of popery, says Pastor Flemons. Nevertheless, we must follow God rather than man. We must all protest arbitrary or unbiblical authority that would force action against biblical principles. Arbitrary authority is rampant in the church today. And it, as well as all wrongs, must be corrected, but always in love.

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that when you eat a huge meal and go to bed, you may sleep for six or more hours, but you will not be resting well. That’s a guarantee. Your inner organs are still working to try and digest all the food you ate just before retiring. Therefore, once you wake up, you feel as though a truck ran over you.

He highly recommends eating only two meals a day, with the final meal ending at least five hours prior to bedtime. This allows the meal to be fully digested first. Then the body, with all the inner organs, will rest well.

If you must have a third meal, make it very light, like soup and crackers, or a smoothie, or fruit, or airpopped popcorn, which can be fully digested within two hours. “Your stomach needs to be empty when you hit the sack, and you will rest well,” says Pastor Flemons.

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with Isaiah 26:3 and 4. She also shared passages that provided five major assurances: 1. “Our heavenly Father has a thousand ways to provide for us;” 2.” A life in Christ is a life of restfulness;” 3. “If we surrender our lives to His service, we can never be placed in a position for which God has not made provision;” 4. “In the heart of Christ, where reigned perfect harmony with God, there was perfect peace;” and 5. “God will do great things for those who trust in Him.” All readings are excerpts from the book Power of Prayer, a compilation of Ellen G. White’s statements on prayer, Chapter 13, “Prayer and Trust,” pp. 32, 33. (Hyperlinks are to another source bearing the same quote.)

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today Listener 4288, who asks that God will give her wisdom in ministering to the elderly so their lives can be more fulfilling. Also pray that her dizzy spells are eliminated.

Please pray for Sis. Odessa and her family for traveling mercies to Alabama for her aunt’s funeral.

Pray for one of our listeners, who is requesting special prayer for her ministry and the recent various opportunities to spread the gospel to young people.

Remember the unspoken prayer request of each heart.
