Worship: Abraham – One of the Few / Wellness: Challenge – Get 30 minutes of sunlight today!

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
Sometimes we have to leave our comfort zone to be obedient to God. That is what Abraham did.

“There was given to Abraham the promise, especially dear to the people of that age, of a numerous posterity and of national greatness: ‘I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.’ And to this was added the assurance, precious above every other to the inheritor of faith, that of his line the Redeemer of the world should come: ‘In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.’ Yet, as the first condition of fulfillment, there was to be a test of faith; a sacrifice was demanded.” {PP 125.2}

Abraham was to leave all that was familiar to him and dwell among strangers in obedience to God. He then was called to be willing to sacrifice his only and long-awaited son to God. “Abraham’s unquestioning obedience is one of the most striking evidences of faith to be found in all the Bible.” Those who believe that faith substitutes for obedience would do well to prayerfully study the life of Abraham.

Abraham understood that the happiest place on earth is where God would have him be. “Where would we be, if Abraham had not been faithful?” asks Pastor Flemons. His faithful–but not flawless–journey makes Abraham one of the few to whom so many owe so much.

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, challenges you to get 30 minutes of sunlight today. God has placed in the rays of sunlight the power to turn cholesterol in the skin to vitamin D. Recently, it has been discovered that vitamin D is very valuable to general well-being. “Vitamin D is essential to every major system of our body,” says Pastor Flemons. Without vitamin D, our immune system will be compromised. Our bones will be more brittle. Arthritis is more of a risk. Your hormones need vitamin D to be balanced. Vitamin D also helps gets rid of toxins, which cause disease.

However, Pastor Flemons advises against being in the sun during the hottest part of the day. He says to be sure to avoid overheating. Heat is not easily released from the bodies of the very young and the very senior. This means that the body can easily overheat. Also, consider the hue of your skin. Lighter hues need less sunlight than darker complexions in order to make vitamin D. Dark people need at least 30 minutes of sunlight daily, says Pastor Flemons.

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with a passage from Ellen G. White on the Beatitudes of Matthew 5.

She said, “I thank the Lord that such plain directions are given to believers. If we had no other instruction than is contained in these few words, here is sufficient, so that none need become bewildered. But we have a whole Bible full of precious instruction. None need be in darkness and uncertainty. Those who will seek by faith and prayer and earnest study of the Scriptures to obtain the virtues here brought to view will easily be distinguished from those who walk not in the light. Those who refuse to follow a Thus saith the Lord will have no excuse to render for their persistent resistance of the Word of God.” {Lt258-1907.14}

Read Matthew 5:3-7.
