Worship: The Image of Daniel 2 / Wellness: Got Tough Pain? Sprout It Out!

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The image of Daniel 2 was a dream of the king of Babylon, given by the living God. It could only be interpreted by Daniel, the prophet. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that there is nothing more nutritious than sprouts for energy and strength and general health, even pain. He has begun to eat them like potato chips: straight out of the package. His energy is clearly evident and has been noted by listeners. And the pain he had is gone! He recommends you try them out. You don’t have to eat them like potato chips. And no, they don’t taste like potato chips. But you can add them to salads for a zing of flavor. There’s all kinds of sprouts. There’s red clover sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, radish sprouts, mung bean sprouts and on and on. You can grow them yourself. “You don’t need a green thumb,” he says. And you can sprout for pennies. But you may also buy sprouting jars and follow the directions.

QTQT  Pastor Flemons responded at least in part to a request to explain Deuteronomy 12:15.

Special Prayer was offered for call-in listener 3030 (sister Rachel’s brain tumor, wisdom for her doctors).

Remember to continue praying also for 0562 (divine favor for custody case today), Marsha (to walk again), 3039 (marking 78th birthday) and 6252 (testimony of praise), 1716, 5815, and all others who have requested our prayers. Thank you.

Worship: The Impending Conflict / Wellness: Hormone-Blocking Therapy for Breast Cancer

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “From the very beginning of the great controversy in heaven it has been Satan’s purpose to overthrow the law of God.  . . . To deceive men, and thus lead them to transgress God’s law, is the object which he has steadfastly pursued. Whether this be accomplished by casting aside the law altogether, or by rejecting one of its precepts, the result will be ultimately the same. He that offends ‘in one point,’ manifests contempt for the whole law; his influence and example are on the side of transgression; he becomes ‘guilty of all.’ James 2:10{GC 582.1} (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, reviewed an article about a study of nearly 63,000 women who took hormone-blocking therapy for five years. A full 43 percent experienced recurrence of breast cancer up to 20 years later. Pastor Flemons says simple healthy lifestyle changes would have provided significantly different outcomes for these women. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement

Luke 1:49, 50  For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

Matthew 6:5, 6  And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

For Heaven’s Sake…

“In seeking to cast contempt upon the divine statutes, Satan has perverted the doctrines of the Bible, and errors have thus become incorporated into the faith of thousands who profess to believe the Scriptures. The last great conflict between truth and error is but the final struggle of the long-standing controversy concerning the law of God. Upon this battle we are now entering—a battle between the laws of men and the precepts of Jehovah, between the religion of the Bible and the religion of fable and tradition. {GC 582.2}

“Those who teach the people to regard lightly the commandments of God sow disobedience to reap disobedience. Let the restraint imposed by the divine law be wholly cast aside, and human laws would soon be disregarded. Because God forbids dishonest practices, coveting, lying, and defrauding, men are ready to trample upon His statutes as a hindrance to their worldly prosperity; but the results of banishing these precepts would be such as they do not anticipate. If the law were not binding, why should any fear to transgress? Property would no longer be safe. Men would obtain their neighbor’s possessions by violence, and the strongest would become richest. Life itself would not be respected. The marriage vow would no longer stand as a sacred bulwark to protect the family. He who had the power, would, if he desired, take his neighbor’s wife by violence. The fifth commandment would be set aside with the fourth. Children would not shrink from taking the life of their parents if by so doing they could obtain the desire of their corrupt hearts. The civilized world would become a horde of robbers and assassins; and peace, rest, and happiness would be banished from the earth. {GC 585.1}

“Already the doctrine that men are released from obedience to God’s requirements has weakened the force of moral obligation and opened the floodgates of iniquity upon the world. Lawlessness, dissipation, and corruption are sweeping in upon us like an overwhelming tide. In the family, Satan is at work. His banner waves, even in professedly Christian households. There is envy, evil surmising, hypocrisy, estrangement, emulation, strife, betrayal of sacred trusts, indulgence of lust. The whole system of religious principles and doctrines, which should form the foundation and framework of social life, seems to be a tottering mass, ready to fall to ruin. The vilest of criminals, when thrown into prison for their offenses, are often made the recipients of gifts and attentions as if they had attained an enviable distinction. Great publicity is given to their character and crimes. The press publishes the revolting details of vice, thus initiating others into the practice of fraud, robbery, and murder; and Satan exults in the success of his hellish schemes. The infatuation of vice, the wanton taking of life, the terrible increase of intemperance and iniquity of every order and degree, should arouse all who fear God, to inquire what can be done to stay the tide of evil. {GC 585.2}

“Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience. {GC 588.1}

“As spiritualism more closely imitates the nominal Christianity of the day, it has greater power to deceive and ensnare. Satan himself is converted, after the modern order of things. He will appear in the character of an angel of light. Through the agency of spiritualism, miracles will be wrought, the sick will be healed, and many undeniable wonders will be performed. And as the spirits will profess faith in the Bible, and manifest respect for the institutions of the church, their work will be accepted as a manifestation of divine power. {GC 588.2}

“The line of distinction between professed Christians and the ungodly is now hardly distinguishable. Church members love what the world loves and are ready to join with them, and Satan determines to unite them in one body and thus strengthen his cause by sweeping all into the ranks of spiritualism. Papists, who boast of miracles as a certain sign of the true church, will be readily deceived by this wonder-working power; and Protestants, having cast away the shield of truth, will also be deluded. Papists, Protestants, and worldlings will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium. {GC 588.3}

“Through spiritualism, Satan appears as a benefactor of the race, healing the diseases of the people, and professing to present a new and more exalted system of religious faith; but at the same time he works as a destroyer. His temptations are leading multitudes to ruin. Intemperance dethrones reason; sensual indulgence, strife, and bloodshed follow. Satan delights in war, for it excites the worst passions of the soul and then sweeps into eternity its victims steeped in vice and blood. It is his object to incite the nations to war against one another, for he can thus divert the minds of the people from the work of preparation to stand in the day of God. {GC 589.1}

“Those who honor the Bible Sabbath will be denounced as enemies of law and order, as breaking down the moral restraints of society, causing anarchy and corruption, and calling down the judgments of God upon the earth. Their conscientious scruples will be pronounced obstinacy, stubbornness, and contempt of authority. They will be accused of disaffection toward the government. Ministers who deny the obligation of the divine law will present from the pulpit the duty of yielding obedience to the civil authorities as ordained of God. In legislative halls and courts of justice, commandment keepers will be misrepresented and condemned. A false coloring will be given to their words; the worst construction will be put upon their motives. {GC 592.1}

“As the Protestant churches reject the clear, Scriptural arguments in defense of God’s law, they will long to silence those whose faith they cannot overthrow by the Bible. Though they blind their own eyes to the fact, they are now adopting a course which will lead to the persecution of those who conscientiously refuse to do what the rest of the Christian world are doing, and acknowledge the claims of the papal sabbath.” {GC 592.2}

(This study is based on chapter 36, “The Impending Conflict” in the book The Great Controversy (GC), by Ellen G. White.)

For Health’s Sake…

Women with an estrogen-sensitive cancer, like breast cancer, typically are advised to have the tumors surgically removed. Surgery would be followed by chemotherapy, which would then be followed by a hormone-blocking drug. That kind of drug therapy blocks the production of estrogen.

Nevertheless, without a change of lifestyle these same women likely will be eating foods high in estrogen, like animal flesh. They might not be drinking adequate water daily or getting adequate exercise, which tend toward constipation. Constipation causes the body to reabsorb excess estrogen. That, combined with life routines that promote stress, also promotes excess estrogen in the body. Then because coffee, chocolate, eating too much, and the drugs that people ingest cause the liver to get clogged, excess estrogen cannot be efficiently removed from the body.  The women, then, remain at risk for estrogen dominance and breast cancer.

“We need to follow God’s [diet and lifestyle] plan,” says Pastor Flemons. “That would bring a blessing.” We call God’s plan the REFRESHING Way lifestyle.

Worship: Later English Reformers / Wellness: Saints and Sickness

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake   Like early reformers, the later reformers were no less fierce about holding up the bloodstained banner of truth. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says you cannot sustain health eating the flesh of dead animals. Saints are to eat only that which sustains both health and life. The Bible provides specific dietary principles that guide saints in sustaining both health and life. It promotes plants as the dietary and healing program for humans. Included in that diet are nuts, fruits and grains. Protestantism’s chief aim is to obey and teach the word of God as supreme in everything.

Words of Encouragement

James 5:8  Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

2 Timothy 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

For Heaven’s Sake…

“The grand principle maintained by these Reformers—the same that had been held by the Waldenses, by Wycliffe, by John Huss, by Luther, Zwingli, and those who united with them—was the infallible authority of the Holy Scriptures as a rule of faith and practice. They denied the right of popes, councils, Fathers, and kings, to control the conscience in matters of religion. The Bible was their authority, and by its teaching they tested all doctrines and all claims. Faith in God and His word sustained these holy men as they yielded up their lives at the stake. ‘Be of good comfort,’ exclaimed Latimer to his fellow martyr as the flames were about to silence their voices, ‘we shall this day light such a candle, by God’s grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out.’—Works of Hugh Latimer 1:8. GC 249.1

“In Scotland the seeds of truth scattered by Columba and his colaborers had never been wholly destroyed. For hundreds of years after the churches of England submitted to Rome, those of Scotland maintained their freedom. In the twelfth century, however, popery became established here, and in no country did it exercise a more absolute sway. Nowhere was the darkness deeper. Still there came rays of light to pierce the gloom and give promise of the coming day. The Lollards, coming from England with the Bible and the teachings of Wycliffe, did much to preserve the knowledge of the gospel, and every century had its witnesses and martyrs. GC 249.2

“With the opening of the Great Reformation came the writings of Luther, and then Tyndale’s English New Testament. Unnoticed by the hierarchy, these messengers silently traversed the mountains and valleys, kindling into new life the torch of truth so nearly extinguished in Scotland, and undoing the work which Rome for four centuries of oppression had done. GC 249.3

“Then the blood of martyrs gave fresh impetus to the movement. The papist leaders, suddenly awakening to the danger that threatened their cause, brought to the stake some of the noblest and most honored of the sons of Scotland. They did but erect a pulpit, from which the words of these dying witnesses were heard throughout the land, thrilling the souls of the people with an undying purpose to cast off the shackles of Rome. GC 249.4

“In the seventeenth century thousands of pastors were expelled from their positions. The people were forbidden, on pain of heavy fines, imprisonment, and banishment, to attend any religious meetings except such as were sanctioned by the church. Those faithful souls who could not refrain from gathering to worship God were compelled to meet in dark alleys, in obscure garrets, and at some seasons in the woods at midnight. In the sheltering depths of the forest, a temple of God’s own building, those scattered and persecuted children of the Lord assembled to pour out their souls in prayer and praise. But despite all their precautions, many suffered for their faith. The jails were crowded. Families were broken up. Many were banished to foreign lands. Yet God was with His people, and persecution could not prevail to silence their testimony. Many were driven across the ocean to America and here laid the foundations of civil and religious liberty which have been the bulwark and glory of this country. GC 252.1

“Again, as in apostolic days, persecution turned out to the furtherance of the gospel. In a loathsome dungeon crowded with profligates and felons, John Bunyan breathed the very atmosphere of heaven; and there he wrote his wonderful allegory of the pilgrim’s journey from the land of destruction to the celestial city. For over two hundred years that voice from Bedford jail has spoken with thrilling power to the hearts of men. Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress and Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners have guided many feet into the path of life. GC 252.2

“Baxter, Flavel, Alleine, and other men of talent, education, and deep Christian experience stood up in valiant defense of the faith which was once delivered to the saints. The work accomplished by these men, proscribed and outlawed by the rulers of this world, can never perish. Flavel’s Fountain of Life and Method of Grace have taught thousands how to commit the keeping of their souls to Christ. Baxter’s Reformed Pastor has proved a blessing to many who desire a revival of the work of God, and his Saints’ Everlasting Rest has done its work in leading souls to the ‘rest’ that remaineth for the people of God.” GC 252.3

Words of Encouragement

Psalm 4:4  Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still.

John 10:27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

For Heaven’s Sake…

“It was on the fourteenth night of tossing on the black, heaving billows, that ‘about midnight’ the sailors, hearing the sound of breakers, ‘deemed that they drew near to some country; and sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms. Then fearing,’ Luke writes, ‘lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.’ AA 443.3

“At break of day the outlines of the stormy coast were dimly visible, but no familiar landmarks could be seen. So gloomy was the outlook that the heathen sailors, losing all courage, ‘were about to flee out of the ship,’ and feigning to make preparations for casting ‘anchors out of the foreship,’ they had already let down the lifeboat, when Paul, perceiving their base design, said to the centurion and the soldiers, ‘Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.’ The soldiers immediately ‘cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off’ into the sea. AA 443.4

The most critical hour was still before them. Again the apostle spoke words of encouragement, and entreated all, both sailors and passengers, to take some food, saying, ‘This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing. Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not a hair fall from the head of any of you.’ AA 444.1

“‘When he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.’ Then that worn and discouraged company of two hundred and seventy-five souls, who but for Paul would have become desperate, joined with the apostle in partaking of food. ‘And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.’ AA 444.2

“Daylight had now fully come, but they could see nothing by which to determine their whereabouts. However, ‘they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship. And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoisted up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore. And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the fore part stuck fast, and remained unmovable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.’ AA 444.3

“Paul and the other prisoners were now threatened by a fate more terrible than shipwreck. The soldiers saw that while endeavoring to reach land it would be impossible for them to keep their prisoners in charge. Every man would have all he could do to save himself. Yet if any of the prisoners were missing, the lives of those who were responsible for them would be forfeited. Hence the soldiers desired to put all the prisoners to death. The Roman law sanctioned this cruel policy, and the plan would have been executed at once, but for him to whom all alike were under deep obligation. Julius the centurion knew that Paul had been instrumental in saving the lives of all on board, and, moreover, convinced that the Lord was with him, he feared to do him harm. He therefore ‘commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land: and the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.’ When the roll was called, not one was missing. AA 445.1

“The shipwrecked crew were kindly received by the barbarous people of Melita. ‘They kindled a fire,’ Luke writes, ‘and received us everyone, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.’ Paul was among those who were active in ministering to the comfort of others. Having gathered ‘a bundle of sticks,’ he ‘laid them on the fire,’ when a viper came forth ‘out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.’ The bystanders were horror-stricken; and seeing by his chain that Paul was a prisoner, they said to one another, ‘No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.’ But Paul shook off the creature into the fire and felt no harm. Knowing its venomous nature, the people looked for him to fall down at any moment in terrible agony. ‘But after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.'” AA 445.2

Paul, himself, said in his second letter to the Corinthians, “For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth” (13:8). Pastor Flemons says, “If you serve God, don’t think bad things won’t happen. . . God was the anti-venom. . . People, it pays to serve God.” Paul served God on that island as a medical missionary, healing others while he, himself, was still unjustly imprisoned! That is service.

(This study is based on Acts 27; 28:1-10; and chapter 42, “The Voyage and Shipwreck” in The Acts of the Apostles (AA), by Ellen G. White.)

For Health’s Sake…

“The relation that exists between the mind and the body is very intimate. When one is affected, the other sympathizes. The condition of the mind affects the health to a far greater degree than many realize. Many of the diseases from which men suffer are the result of mental depression. Grief, anxiety, discontent, remorse, guilt, distrust, all tend to break down the life forces and to invite decay and death.

“Disease is sometimes produced, and is often greatly aggravated, by the imagination. Many are lifelong invalids who might be well if they only thought so. Many imagine that every slight exposure will cause illness, and the evil effect is produced because it is expected. Many die from disease the cause of which is wholly imaginary.

“Courage, hope, faith, sympathy, love, promote health and prolong life. A contented mind, a cheerful spirit, is health to the body and strength to the soul. ‘A merry [rejoicing] heart doeth good like a medicine.’ Proverbs 17:22.

“In the treatment of the sick the effect of mental influence should not be overlooked. Rightly used, this influence affords one of the most effective agencies for combating disease.” MH 241

Words of Encouragement

Zephaniah 3:15  The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.

Zechariah 2:8  For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

For Heaven’s Sake…

“. . . Judging that flattery would have more influence upon the Roman governor than the simple statements of truth and justice, the wily orator began his speech by praising Felix: ‘Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto his nation by thy providence, we accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.’ 419.1

“Tertullus here descended to barefaced falsehood; for the character of Felix was base and contemptible. It was said of him,that ‘in the practice of all kinds of lust and cruelty, he exercised the power of a king with the temper of a slave.’–Tacitus, History, ch. 5, par. 9. Those who heard Tertullus knew that his flattering words were untrue, but their desire to secure the condemnation of Paul was stronger than their love of truth. AA 419.2

“In his speech, Tertullus charged Paul with crimes which, if proved, would have resulted in his conviction for high treason against the government. ‘We have found this man a pestilent fellow,’ declared the orator, ‘and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: who also hath gone about to profane the temple.’ Tertullus then stated that Lysias, the commandant of the garrison at Jerusalem, had violently taken Paul from the Jews when they were about to judge him by their ecclesiastical law, and had thus forced them to bring the matter before Felix. These statements were made with the design of inducing the procurator to deliver Paul over to the Jewish court. All the charges were vehemently supported by the Jews present, who made no effort to conceal their hatred of the prisoner. AA 420.1

“Felix had sufficient penetration to read the disposition and character of Paul’s accusers. He knew from what motive they had flattered him, and he saw also that they had failed to substantiate their charges against Paul. Turning to the accused, he beckoned to him to answer for himself. Paul wasted no words in compliments, but simply stated that he could the more cheerfully defend himself before Felix, since the latter had been so long a procurator, and therefore had so good an understanding of the laws and customs of the Jews. Referring to the charges brought against him, he plainly showed that not one of them was true. He declared that he had caused no disturbance in any part of Jerusalem, nor had he profaned the sanctuary. ‘They neither found me in the temple disputing with any man,” he said, “neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city: neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.’ AA 420.1

“The apostle spoke with earnestness and evident sincerity, and his words carried with them a weight of conviction. Claudius Lysias, in his letter to Felix, had borne a similar testimony in regard to Paul’s conduct. Moreover, Felix himself had a better knowledge of the Jewish religion than many supposed. Paul’s plain statement of the facts in the case enabled Felix to understand still more clearly the motives by which the Jews were governed in attempting to convict the apostle of sedition and treasonable conduct. The governor would not gratify them by unjustly condemning a Roman citizen, neither would he give him up to them to be put to death without a fair trial. Yet Felix knew no higher motive than self-interest, and he was controlled by love of praise and a desire for promotion. Fear of offending the Jews held him back from doing full justice to a man whom he knew to be innocent. He therefore decided to suspend the trial until Lysias should be present, saying, ‘When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.’ AA 421.3

“It was not long after this that Felix and his wife, Drusilla, sent for Paul in order that in a private interview they might hear from him ‘concerning the faith in Christ.’ They were willing and even eager to listen to these new truths –truths which they might never hear again and which, if rejected, would prove a swift witness against them in the day of God. AA 422.2

“A ray of light from heaven had been permitted to shine upon Felix, when Paul reasoned with him concerning righteousness, temperance, and a judgment to come. That was his heaven-sent opportunity to see and to forsake his sins. But he said to the messenger of God, ‘Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.’ He had slighted his last offer of mercy. Never was he to receive another call from God.” AA 427.2

For Health’s Sake…

Fever baths are done where the water is extremely hot. Under normal circumstances, persons can usually handle up to 110 degrees without being burned; but they must be allowed to enter the tub of water at 105 to 108 degrees. In lieu of a thermometer, use your elbow or the person’s foot to test the water. The major portion of the person’s body is submerged under the water, at least above the hip line. The water line does not need to be up to the neck.

Towels strategically placed will substitute for having the water up to the neck. Wrap the upper torso and shoulders of the body in towels. Then using a pitcher, fill it with the hot bath water and pour it over the towel-covered shoulders. It is important, however, to wrap a cold towel around the neck for the duration of the fever bath. The cold towel is prepared by placing ice cubes lengthwise into a hand towel. Twist at the ends like a Tootsie Roll, and wrap around the neck. This and two cold wet towels frequently and alternatingly dipped into ice water must be kept on the head to guard against fainting.

Persons who are anemic, elderly or diabetic and can’t discern temperatures are more likely to faint. Fever baths must always be done with at least one person assisting. Conversation should be ongoing throughout the fever bath. This helps the medical missionary know that the person is fully conscious. The remedy for loss of consciousness is to pour the ice cold water over the head and continue pouring cold water from the tap until full consciousness is regained.

Fever baths are extremely valuable to the healing process. Fever baths are given to persons with cancer or colds or flu. The immune system loves heat, says Pastor Flemons. And diseases, including lyme disease, hate heat.

John 10:28-29  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

Colossians 3:9-10 Lie not to one another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.
