Worship: Hannah, One of the Few / Wellness: Juice and Smoothie for Anemia

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
Samuel was the prayed-for child of Hannah, who was the wife in derision because for years she could bear no child. God heard and answered her prayer with a son. And she in turn devoted him to God–not only in heart but in deed. She weaned the child and then took him to the sanctuary and placed him in the service of God under the high priest, Eli.

“It was not customary for the Levites to enter upon their peculiar services until they were twenty-five years of age, but Samuel had been an exception to this rule. Every year saw more important trusts committed to him; and while he was yet a child, a linen ephod was placed upon him as a token of his consecration to the work of the sanctuary. These were at first very humble, and not always pleasant; but they were performed to the best of his ability, and with a willing heart. His religion was carried into every duty of life. He regarded himself as God’s servant, and his work as God’s work. His efforts were accepted, because they were prompted by love to God and a sincere desire to do His will. It was thus that Samuel became a co-worker with the Lord of heaven and earth. And God fitted him to accomplish a great work for Israel.  {PP 573.3}

“. . . From the earliest dawn of intellect she [Hannah] had taught her son to love and reverence God and to regard himself as the Lord’s. By every familiar object surrounding him she had sought to lead his thoughts up to the Creator. When separated from her child, the faithful mother’s solicitude did not cease. Every day he was the subject of her prayers. Every year she made, with her own hands, a robe of service for him; and as she went up with her husband to worship at Shiloh, she gave the child this reminder of her love. Every fiber of the little garment had been woven with a prayer that he might be pure, noble, and true. She did not ask for her son worldly greatness, but she earnestly pleaded that he might attain that greatness which Heaven values—that he might honor God and bless his fellow men. {PP 572.2}

“What a reward was Hannah’s! and what an encouragement to faithfulness is her example! There are opportunities of inestimable worth, interests infinitely precious, committed to every mother. . . .[Because of Hannah, every mother and every child has this example.] It is the mother’s privilege to bless the world by her influence, and in doing this she will bring joy to her own heart. She may make straight paths for the feet of her children, through sunshine and shadow, to the glorious heights above. But it is only when she seeks, in her own life, to follow the teachings of Christ that the mother can hope to form the character of her children after the divine pattern.”  {PP 572.3

Hannah’s life of prayerful perseverance and her motherly example are why she is one of the few to whom so many owe so much.

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s Patriarchs and Prophets, Chapter 55, “The Child Samuel” PP 569-574.3 . Also, please listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 653, “Lead Them, My God to Thee.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, and Sis. Maria discussed TORSOE’s (Times of Refreshing Simplicity of Eden) 10-day fast for spiritual healing and total well-being. Sis. Maria shared two more recipes to use during the fast by anyone, but especially for those with an iron deficiency or anemia. Keep in mind she says that this will be an exercise for spiritual cleansing and empowerment.

The TORSOE Iron-Rich Green Juice

  • 1/2 bunch, broccoli
  • 1 handful, spinach
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 pear
  • 1 lemon (peeled)
  • 1 lime (peeled)
  • 1 orange or tangerine (peeled)
  • 1 inch, ginger root (peeled)

The TORSOE Red-Hot Iron Smoothie

  • 1/2 large red beet (grind first)
  • 3 T, raisins
  • 3 T, cashews
  • 2 T, lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 cup, pure water

Directions: Place into a blender the cashews and raisins and water just to top of ingredients. Blend, preferably with a high-end blender. Use remaining ingredients and water and blend thoroughly.

These recipes can be used by anyone. However, they are especially recommended for those with anemia or iron deficiency. Join with TORSOE in the 10-day fast beginning August 1, and get ready to move the mountains in your life!

Sharing and Caring Time  Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with two passages of reading from the book Power of Prayer, a collection of statements on prayer by Ellen G. White, particularly from the section titled “The Privilege of Prayer,” Chapter 1, p. 9. [Other sources of the same or very similar quotes are used below.]

“The unvailed glory of God no man could look upon and live; but Moses is assured that he shall behold as much of the divine glory as he can bear, in his present, mortal state. That Hand that made the world, that holds the mountains in their places, takes this man of dust,—this man of mighty faith,—and mercifully covers him in a cleft of the rock, while the glory of God and all his goodness pass before him. Can we marvel that the ‘excellent glory’ reflected from Omnipotence shone in Moses’ face, with such brightness that the people could not look upon it? The impress of God was upon him, making him appear as one of the shining angels from the throne. {T30 18.2}

“This experience,—above all else the assurance that God would hear his prayer, and that the divine presence would attend him,—was of more value to Moses as a leader than the learning of Egypt, or all his attainments in military science. No earthly power or skill or learning can supply the place of God’s immediate presence. In the history of Moses we may see what intimate communion with God it is man’s privilege to enjoy. To the transgressor it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. But Moses was not afraid to be alone with the Author of that law which had been spoken with such awful grandeur from Mount Sinai; for his soul was in harmony with the will of his Maker. {T30 19.1}

“Prayer is the opening of the heart to God, as to a friend. The eye of faith will discern God very near, and the suppliant may obtain a precious evidence of the divine love and care for him. . . .” {T30 19.2}

Pastor Flemons will be speaking this Sabbath (Saturday) at the Walnut Church of SDA, 8501 Hwy 25, Marshall, NC 28753.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today Listener 4906, who asks that we pray that God will give her the strength to do the fast with TORSOE, beginning August 1. Pray that she overcomes appetite and passion. Pray that she has a closer walk with God, and pray for the salvation of her family (husband and children).

Please pray for any of our listeners who struggle with suicidal tendencies.

Please pray for TORSOE’s mission and plans and for our liquid fast from August 1 to August 10.

Pray for the unspoken prayer requests of each heart.

Worship: When Preachers Are Scared of the People, Pt 2 / Wellness: Benefits of Onions

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
We are not going to heaven, unless we are just like God, says Pastor Flemons. “We need to see how important it is to live for Jesus, to tell the truth, to say it in the right spirit–humbly–and to make sure that our characters are in line with the character of the true Shepherd.”

“When we don’t tell the people the truth, then we leave them open to hear all kinds of things, from all kinds of sources,” says Pastor Flemons. Christianity, he says, is the only religion that uses one book but has hundreds and maybe “thousands of different sects, or denominations, or belief systems.” He said that this would not be so with the assembly manual of an automobile. He shared his imagination of what would be the result. The bottom line is that you would not drive that kind of car.

“We are a mess,” he says. The problem is the thirst for popularity. “It is better to tell the truth, to live the truth in an unpopular time, than to find out too late that fame, popularity, money, approval–all those things–will cause you to lose your soul.” Thank God that He is still in control.

[For further details, read Ezekiel 34:6-16; Psalm 48:11; Isaiah 51:16; Revelation 18:8, 9; Psalm 26:2-4Proverbs 2:1-5John 17:3. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 317, “Lead Me to Calvary.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that you should eat more onions. He shared a health.news article about the benefits of onions. It refers to onions as superfoods that are “rich” in powerful antioxidants. They help fight off cancer, promote bone health, and lower cholesterol levels. They even support gut health and enhance the benefits of tomatoes.

According to the article, you need to peel as little of the outer edible layer as possible; it contains “the highest levels of flavonoids.” It also said that you need to cook the onions in a certain way to garner the “maximum health benefits.” “Whether it’s white, yellow, red or purple, and green – all onion varieties are shown to be a healthy addition to your diet.”

[For more details, please listen to the recording and read the article in full here.]

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with Psalm 28:7, 8: “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.”

She also shared three quotes from the book Power of Prayer, a collection of quotes on prayer by Ellen G. White, Chapter 17, “The Strength of Prayer.”

1. “The servants of Christ were to prepare no set speech to present when brought to trial. Their preparation was to be made day by day in treasuring up the precious truths of God’s word, and through prayer strengthening their faith. When they were brought into trial, the Holy Spirit would bring to their remembrance the very truths that would be needed.” {Pr 275.1}

2. “A daily, earnest striving to know God, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent, would bring power and efficiency to the soul. The knowledge obtained by diligent searching of the Scriptures would be flashed into the memory at the right time. But if any had neglected to acquaint themselves with the words of Christ, if they had never tested the power of His grace in trial, they could not expect that the Holy Spirit would bring His words to their remembrance. They were to serve God daily with undivided affection, and then trust Him.”—(The Desire of Ages, 355.) {Pr 275.2}

3. “Jesus Himself, while He dwelt among men, was often in prayer. Our Saviour identified Himself with our needs and weakness, in that He became a suppliant, a petitioner, seeking from His Father fresh supplies of strength, that He might come forth braced for duty and trial. He is our example in all things. He is a brother in our infirmities, ‘in all points tempted like as we are;’ but as the sinless one His nature recoiled from evil; He endured struggles and torture of soul in a world of sin. His humanity made prayer a necessity and a privilege. He found comfort and joy in communion with His Father. And if the Saviour of men, the Son of God, felt the need of prayer, how much more should feeble, sinful mortals feel the necessity of fervent, constant prayer.”  {SC 93.4}

[The quotes above were taken from the hyperlinked source.]

Pastor Flemons responded to questions: How often should you do an enema? Why can’t a person hold on to a retention enema?

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today Listener 4906, who asks that we pray for her health and that she has a closer walk with God. Also pray for her family and the families of those who lost loved ones.

Please pray for 21-year-old Ornelia (correct spelling) and her two boys (not one), who witnessed the murder of husband and father, who himself was to have testified in court as a witness to a murder in Trinidad. Pastor and Sis. Maria spoke with her yesterday. The collected funds will be sent to her today. Please keep them in prayer.

Please pray for TORSOE’s mission and plans.

Pray for the unspoken prayer requests of each heart.

Words of Encouragement

Ecclesiastes 2:11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. (Also read Conflict and Courage for July 9, CC 196.)

Worship: The Latter Rain and the Remnant Church / Wellness: Licorice Heals

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
End-time events are important, says Pastor Flemons. But the end-time event is the second coming of Christ. And that is the event upon which should demand our greatest focus. Focusing on Christ and His work in the Most Holy Place for us now will cause us to forsake sin, put away our arrogance, laziness, pride, backbiting, and our gossiping to become changed into His image. That is the work of the latter rain.

The former rain and the latter rain have two applications, according to Pastor Flemons. He says that it has an application that is personal to the individual and another application to the church. Your initial conversion is the former rain. And the latter rain is manifested in your life through the power of the Holy Spirit that ripens the individual experience.

“Under the figure of ‘the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain,’ the prophet Joel points out the work of the Spirit of God in the church. Joel 2:23. The rain accompanied the work of the Hebrew church: the former rain was given to the Christian church on the day of Pentecost following Christ’s ascension; the latter rain is an experience for the Remnant church. It ripens the grape for the harvest just before Christ’s second coming, which is the end of the world. Matt. 13:39.” (PTG)

[For further details, please read Joel 2:23; Psalm 139:23; Psalm 26:2; Matthew 13:39; Revelation 18:1-5; and “The Latter Rain for the Remnant Church” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 219 original; PTG 297, 298 latest edition; PTG 165, 166 online.) And listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, and hear him sing Hymn 251, “He Lives.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, shared a healthline.com article that lists some health benefits of licorice. Although it is most familiar because of its use in candies and beverages, licorice has been used to soothe gastrointestinal problems. However, it is found to be beneficial also to cleanse the respiratory system, reduce stress, and aid in the treatment of breast and prostate cancers. Because of its antibacterial properties, it can be used to treat eczema and tooth decay.

Licorice can be purchased as an extract, a tea, or a powder. As an extract, licorice is most commonly used as a commercial sweetener in candies and beverages. Licorice root tea will normalize the blood sugar that has dropped, says Pastor Flemons. And the powder, when combined with a gel, can be used externally in the treatment of eczema and acne. The powder can also be poured into vegetable gel capsules for internal use. The article also provides what it calls safe maximum dosages to avoid potential unpleasant experiences with licorice.

(For further details, please listen to the recording and read the full article here.)

Worship: Both a Price and Reward for Loyalty / Wellness: Sweet to the Bone

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  No amount of persecution can take away the joy that comes from serving and loving the Lord, says Pastor Flemons. He referred to the account of the Apostle Paul, whose life turned miserable once he decided to follow Jesus. He was even persecuted by the church to which he once belonged and was highly regarded. These persecutions are recounted in a list in 2 Corinthians 11:22-28, which Pastor Flemons read to listeners.

Four of the five times the Apostle Paul was held by the Jews, he was beaten with forty strips. Three times he was beaten with rods. He was stoned. He was shipwrecked three times. He spent a night and a day in depths of the sea. “In journeyings often,” he said, “in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren. In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.”

“But none of these things move me,” added Paul, “neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).

The same goes for us, says Pastor Flemons. “Joy comes only from following Jesus.”

[For additional details, please read 2 Corinthians 11:22-28; and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed the effects of sugar on the bones. An average of 52 teaspoons of sugar is consumed daily, says Pastor Flemons. Sugar is acidic, and it has no nutritive value at all. Therefore, the more sugar consumed, the more the bones are drained of calcium to alkalinize the blood. Consequently, calcification sets in the joints. The result is arthritis and osteoporosis.

Be sparing with sweets and remain healthy and strong. Sweets no more than twice a week may be okay, says Pastor Flemons. But it is better to use molasses or honey. They are sweet and nutritious.

(For more details, please listen to the recording.)

Words of Encouragement

Proverbs 6:23, 24  For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.  (Also read Numbers 25; Numbers 31:16and Conflict and Courage for April 19, CC 115.)

Hebrews 1:14   Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?  (Also read Prayer, Pr 224.2, 225.1.)

Worship: Dress? It’s Spiritual / Wellness: Wearing High Heels? It’s Dangerous

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Dress reform (presented in its own mini-series) follows talks by Pastor Flemons on a number of reforms instituted after 1798, when the Dark Ages ended. These reforms include the Bible, the Spirit of Prophecy, the Sanctuary, the Sabbath, Worship, Country Living, as well as Financial, Education, Home, Prophetic, Faith, Unity, and Health reforms in his series “Preparation for the Final Crisis,” which he says is “preparation for Heaven.”

Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, a book written by Ellen G. White, treats the subject of dress in a full chapter. Pastor Flemons read a portion of it. The first and last paragraphs are these:

“Fashion rules the world; and she is a tyrannical mistress, often compelling her devotees to submit to the greatest inconvenience and discomfort. Fashion taxes without reason, and collects without mercy. She has a fascinating power, and stands ready to criticise and ridicule all who do not follow in her wake.” {CTBH 85.1}

“It is Satan’s design so to pervert every function of our being that life may be made miserable, and God may be dishonored in the creatures he has made. If women make the customs of the world their criterion, they will become unfitted, both physically and mentally, for the duties of life. Many have done themselves untold injury by compressing the waist. Their power to do good in the family and in society is greatly lessened; and if they are mothers, their children are robbed of vitality. When the waist is compressed, the circulation of the blood is impeded, and the internal organs, cramped and crowded out of place, cannot perform their work properly. It is impossible, under such circumstances, to take a full inspiration. Thus the pernicious habit of breathing only with the upper part of the lungs is formed, and feebleness and disease are often the result.” {CTBH 88.1}

Pastor Flemons added that if you cannot inhale as your stomach expands effortlessly, then your clothing is too tight.

[For additional details, please read Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, by Ellen G. White, Chapter 10 “Dress,” particularly, pp 85 – 88 (CTBH 85) and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, shared an article confirming what he’s been teaching for years: that wearing high heels may look fashionable; but they can hurt you in more ways than simply your feet and toes.

Wearing high heels can cause lower back pain. It can actually cause displacement of the pelvis, which then can cause female issues, adds Pastor Flemons.

It can cause sore calves, which leads to ugly protruding and extremely painful veins. It can cause broken ankles, bruised elbows and knees, and even a concussion, if you fall from walking on uneven surfaces, like cobblestones and potholes.

Because “high heels make the lower back arch out more than usual,” wearing them can cause an awkward spinal curvature that can lead to upper and lower back pain. “The stress on your foot can result in a constricted blood flow. In extreme cases, it may cause the blood vessels to break (6).” The stress can also cause the deformity called hammer toe.

They can weaken your ligaments and put stress on the knee that leads to osteoarthritis. Finally, wearing those stylish high heels all the time can hyperextend your toes permanently. That, my friends, is not too stylish at all. Those are ten side effects listed from wearing high heels. Who knows? There may be more!

John 15:4  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. (Also read With God at Dawn for April 8, WGD 100.)

Worship: Competition in Education / Wellness: Cancer Deaths from Constipation and Acidosis

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “True education is synonymous with redemption,” says Pastor Flemons. Satan, he says, “uses false education to keep us from being saved.” He explained.

The Bible says, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory.” Instead, everyone should consider that the other is better than oneself. Read Philippians 2:3.

The Seventh-day Adventist educational system was to be based on the Bible and was not to encourage competition in any thing. So that we may more clearly understand what this means, Pastor Flemons read from a chapter entitled “Emulation, Honors and Prizes” in the book Studies in Christian Education, by E. A. Sutherland. “Emulation is competition.” And if we  don’t overcome it, we will not be saved, says Pastor Flemons. Read Galatians 5:19-21.

Jesuits instituted the competition that we are all familiar with in educational and various other pursuits, says Pastor Flemons. He shared a brief section of the Studies in Christian Education that referred to the Oberlin College policy to never announce the scholastic standing of their students. They endeavored to prevent the vicious ambition and competition so common everywhere now. Nevertheless, the Bible shows us that competition predates the Jesuit Papal practice. It was practiced in Babylon. Read Daniel 1:3-6.

“The Jesuit Papal practice, so necessary to the success of their system of education,” holds this to be true: “Nothing will be held more honorable than to outstrip a fellow student and nothing more dishonorable than to be outstripped. Prizes will be distributed to the best pupils with the greatest possible solemnity.”

[For additional details, please read in full “Emulation, Honors and Prizes” in the book Studies in Christian Education, by E. A. Sutherland., pp 36-38. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 289, “The Savior Is Waiting.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says deaths from cancer can occur because of constipation and acidosis. Pastor Flemons discussed in detail his successful ministry to a person with late stage pancreatic cancer with constipation. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to treat. All he did, he says, was to administer large doses of colon cleansing herbs and probiotics. As a result, the man is eliminating very well and feels like getting up and exercising!

Where there was no expectation for survival, now there is hope. Family had come in from as far away as Hawaii to say their last words. Hospice care was being administered, presumably for his final days. But now, where sorrow and tears were expected, there can be praise, thanksgiving, and joy for at least one Texas family.

(Please listen to the recording to hear the full testimony and learn how to share hope.)

Words of Encouragement

Jeremiah 30:7  Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 68.)

Ephesians 2:8, 9  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 64.)

Worship: Tabernacle and Priests Anointed / Wellness: Prevention Better Than Cure

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Pastor Flemons recommends reading the sections that formed the basis of his discussion about the anointing of the sanctuary. (See link below.) His talk, however, focused on the point that has shaken the remnant world and caused so many to leave the church.

Both the Holy Place and Most Holy Place are referenced simply as “holy places” in Hebrews 9:24. This became a stumbling block, says Pastor Flemons, both for those who erred in following Desmond Ford out of the church on this point, as well as for those who stayed but missed the full meaning of text. The Ford side believed that Jesus only went into one of the holy places, not both. Therefore, Pastor Flemons felt led to discuss and settle the point.  [Correction: The Ford side believed that Jesus went into the Most Holy Place at His ascension, not in 1844, says Pastor Flemons.–Feb 9.]

“For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us” (Hebrews 9:24).

Pastor Flemons drew our attention to the exchange between Jesus and Mary, before His ascension, when Mary was not allowed to touch Him, according to John’s account. Pastor Flemons points out that immediately after His brief encounter with Mary, Jesus ascended first to Most Holy Place to show Himself to His Father for His approval of Jesus’s sacrifice. This was typified by Moses, who entered into the holy places to anoint the tabernacle and its furnishings, preceding the anointing of the high priest for his priestly service.

After Jesus received the approval of His Father, He returned to Earth for forty days, according to the record in Acts. After the forty days, Jesus then ascended to Heaven to be anointed and inaugurated as High Priest to begin His priestly duties in the Holy Place, where He remained until 1844. It was then on October 22, 1844, that His investigative judgment duties in the Most Holy Place began.

[For additional details, please read John 20:17; Acts 1:3; 8-11Exodus 30:26-30; Psalm 133:2; Exodus 29:4-9, 20,21; Leviticus 8:22-24. Also read “The Tabernacle and the Priests Anointed” and “The Antitype of This Anointing” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 198, 199 original. PTG 269, 270 latest edition. PTG 150 online.)  And listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 286, “Wonderful Words of Life.]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, introduced Meals Before Pills in the previous wellness segment and continued the discussion. “Prevention is better than a cure,” he said. Then, reading from Counsels on Diet and Foods, he said this:

“Many have expected that God would keep them from sickness merely because they have asked Him to do so. But God did not regard their prayers, because their faith was not made perfect by works. God will not work a miracle to keep those from sickness who have no care for themselves, but are continually violating the laws of health, and make no efforts to prevent disease. When we do all we can on our part to have health, then may we expect that the blessed results will follow, and we can ask God in faith to bless our efforts for the preservation of health. He will then answer our prayer, if His name can be glorified thereby. But let all understand that they have a work to do. God will not work in a miraculous manner to preserve the health of persons who are taking a sure course to make themselves sick, by their careless inattention to the laws of health. {CD 26.1}

“Those who will gratify their appetite, and then suffer because of their intemperance, and take drugs to relieve them, may be assured that God will not interpose to save health and life which is so recklessly periled. The cause has produced the effect. Many, as their last resort, follow the directions in the word of God, and request the prayers of the elders of the church for their restoration to health. God does not see fit to answer prayers offered in behalf of such, for He knows that if they should be restored to health, they would again sacrifice it upon the altar of unhealthy appetite.—Spiritual Gifts 4a:144, 145, 1864″ {CD 26.2}
