Worship: Spiritual Lessons of Garments / Wellness: Dress for Health

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Adam and Eve were clothed with a garment of light until they sinned. The light then faded out. Artificial clothing then became necessary to cover their nakedness. God has an established standard that must be uplifted by believers. “‘Everything connected with the apparel and deportment of the priests was to be such as to impress the beholder with the sense of the holiness of God, the sacredness of His worship, and the purity required of those who came into His presence.’ PP 351. The fine white linen of which these simple beautiful garments were made, is a symbol of righteousness. Rev. 19:8. It represented the beauty of the character of Christ, of whom the priests were a type.” (Read Genesis 3:7; Deuteronomy 22:5; Revelation 19:8; 1 Peter 3:3, 4; 1 Timothy 2:9; Revelation 17:4,5; Philippians 3:13; James 1:6; Exodus 28:42; Revelation 3:18; and Psalm 104:2. By all means, listen to the recording for more awesome details about dress and the spiritual and practical lessons they reflect.” Also read “The Sin of Bathsheba” below.)

[This topic was based on “Spiritual Lessons from These Garments” in The Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck, PTG 63, 64 (pp 93, 94 new edition) (PTG online 46, 47).]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says the health of the heart is impacted by how the body is covered. Fully and loosely covering the body is easier on the heart than it is when certain parts of the body are exposed. Covering the legs are more important to the health than is covering the arms. That is because the legs are farther away from the heart. The heart has to work harder to equalize the temperature of exposed legs to the rest of the body. Exposing the skin because it is hot is dangerous. It is cooler when the body is lightly but fully clothed. Tight clothing restricts blood flow. Material that holds in moisture, particularly in the breast region, raises the risk of breast cancer. Wearing 100 percent cotton is best. The issue and risks of deodorants that lock moisture in the body was another major point of discussion. (Please listen to the recording for other interesting details. And read more below for the promised quotes regarding dress titled “The American Costume.”)

Words of Encouragement

James 1:27  Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

James 1:19, 20  Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worth not the righteousness of God.
