Worship: Cain and Abel / Wellness: The Liver and Gallbladder

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  After Adam and Eve sinned, a sacrificial system was instituted to redeem them. Lambs were slain to portray the horrible deadliness of sin and to show fallen man that a Savior must give his life to pay the cost of their sin. Additionally, an offering of first fruits was required. Obedience is an exercise of faith in Christ. But Cain refused; and life for everyone suddenly got worse. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, explained the liver and gallbladder and their roles in digestion. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement

1 Peter 2:9  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

For Heaven’s Sake…

Cain killed Abel. Because Abel obeyed, his sacrifice was counted by God as more excellent than that of Cain. That angered Cain, so he killed his younger brother. For the first time, Adam and Eve experienced the death of a human being. (Read Genesis 4:1-15 and Hebrews 11:4.)

Cain’s refusal to present the blood offering revealed his belief in himself. He did not believe he needed the Savior. He believed he would be saved by the merits of his own works. This was in violation of the expressed will of God.

Abel loved God. It showed through his obedience to God’s commandments. Thus, God favored Abel’s sacrifice and showed His approval by a fire from heaven that consumed the sacrifice.

If we give ourselves as living sacrifices to God, He will send fire (the Holy Spirit). The Holy Spirit will consume selfishness in us and fill us with the holiness and righteousness of Christ. Thus, we will we live for and through Him.

Pastor Flemons says, “Cain and Abel represent two classes of people which have always co-existed since the fall of our first parents. One class will love God, keep his commandments, and depend on him for salvation. The other class will refuse to deny self, disobey God’s Commandments, and depend on their own works for salvation. All those who claim that we don’t have to obey are actually on the side of Cain, for they have manufactured a new way to be saved.”

Revelation 22:14  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life and may enter in through the gates into the city.

For Health’s Sake…

The liver is the largest solid organ inside the body and is the body’s fastest regenerating organ. It has multiple roles in the body; but its role in the digestive system is to process the nutrients absorbed from the small intestine. It is the body’s chemical factory, in that it takes raw materials absorbed by the intestine and makes all the various chemicals the body needs to function.

The liver is also the storehouse of the body’s energy. It regulates the body and ensures the release of post-digestive nutrients into the system. It controls even the balance of simple and complex sugar storage and releases sugar when needed for energy.

Also, the liver detoxifies potentially harmful chemicals. It is the only organ that receives its blood from a portal vein, rather than from an artery. As such, it can protect all the other organs from poison. The liver secretes bile, a yellowish-green to dark brown antibacterial fluid, into the small intestine to kill toxins in the foods being digested. This is God’s way of keeping us alive even when we consume harmful substances.

Produced in the liver, bile is naturally alkaline and is a composition of water, bile salts, bilirubin cholesterol, and inorganic salts. Bile juice is released into the duodenum, where it neutralizes excessive stomach acids before the food enters the ileum. It plays an important role in the digestion and absorption of lipids and fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Bile escorts waste products such as bilirubin out of the body. It also carries cholesterol to be excreted.

Hormones control its secretion and flow. During the fasting stage between meals, unused bile juice travels to the gallbladder for storage. There, it gets concentrated to up to five times its original potency. Better than the original, it is powerfully ready for a new cycle of use.

In this process, we can clearly agree with Jeremiah. In Lamentations 3:22-23, he said, “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are [literally] new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
