Worship: Work Lying Nearest / Wellness: Supernatural Natural Remedies

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The importance of doing the work lying nearest is demonstrated in the Bible story of Elisha. His faithfulness in the daily round of farming duties qualified him to follow Elijah, as the prophet of God.

“Elisha’s father was a wealthy farmer, a man whose household were among the number that in a time of almost universal apostasy had not bowed the knee to Baal. Theirs was a home where God was honored and where allegiance to the faith of ancient Israel was the rule of daily life. In such surroundings the early years of Elisha were passed. In the quietude of country life, under the teaching of God and nature and the discipline of useful work, he received the training in habits of simplicity and of obedience to his parents and to God that helped to fit him for the high position he was afterward to occupy. {CC 220.3}

“The prophetic call came to Elisha while, with his father’s servants, he was plowing in the field. He had taken up the work that lay nearest.” {CC 220.4}

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that natural remedies, used in accordance with God’s will, can bring about supernatural results without any toxicity. He advises avoiding the chronic use of pharmaceuticals. He cautions people, however, who use natural remedies to afterward live a healthy lifestyle, rather than resort to eating and living in ways that encourage disease and early death. Words of Encouragement

James 2:23, 24  And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. (Also read GC 472.2.)

James 5:17, 18  Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. (Also read PK 156, 157.)
