Worship: Nearest to the Throne / Wellness: Wrong Conditions of Eating, Pt. 2

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Daily in the sanctuary, the high priest was closest to the throne of God when he offered incense on the altar, signifying the righteousness of Christ. Mixed with the prayers of the saints, it ascended to God on the throne. The altar of incense was nearer to the ark than any other article in the holy place.” As instructed by God, the altar of incense was placed “before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony,” where God promised to meet the high priest. So today, it is in prayer that the suppliant one is brought closest to the throne of God, as Jesus, our High Priest, represents us and our requests to His Father. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, who presents our prayers to Jesus, we are connected to the throne room of Heaven.

[For additional details, please read Exodus 30:6; Revelation 8:3 and 4; PP 353; and “The Prayer Altar Nearest the Throne” in The Path to the Throne of God: The Sanctuary, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck, PTG 130, 131 original; PTG 181 new edition; PTG 99 online. Also listen to the recording and hear Pastor Flemons sing Hymn 495, “Near to the Heart of God .”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, read an additional portion of “Wrong Conditions of Eating” in the book Ministry of Healing, by Ellen G. White, particularly MH 306.1-309.2. In it we learn that a “clogged stomach means a clogged brain.” That is because the stomach and brain are closely connected.

“When the stomach is diseased, the nerve power is called from the brain to the aid of the weakened digestive organs. When these demands are too frequent, the brain becomes congested. When the brain is constantly taxed, and there is lack of physical exercise, even plain food should be eaten sparingly.” {MH 306.1}

Never should food be eaten to gluttony, regardless of how simple or wholesome the food. While it is best for all foods to be placed on the table at once to help avoid gluttony, never should “rich and luxurious food” be served upon the tables of those who are “guardians of spiritual interests.” For everyone seeking communion with God, take note. “Abstemiousness in diet is rewarded with mental and moral vigor; it also aids in the control of the passions.” Continual overeating numbs the brain. (For further details, please listen to the recording.)

Words of Encouragement

Psalm 97:10, 11  Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: He preserveth the souls of his saints; He delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

Isaiah 40:28, 29  Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. (Also read SC 85.4.)
