Worship: The Cherubim / Wellness: Blessings of Being a Medical Missionary

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Angels and all of Heaven have sacrificed and suffered because of sin. That is expressed in the work of beaten gold in the sanctuary. “As already noted, the candlestick, representing Christ the light of the world, was also of beaten gold, the oil used for the lights, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, was beaten, and the gold thread with which the angel forms were embroidered was cut from beaten gold. Ex. 39:3. The two angels, called cherubim, who faced each other from opposite ends of the mercy seat, were magnificent angels made of both solid and beaten gold. Their two wings stretched forth and touched each other, as they reverently “bowed their heads toward the holy law of God within the ark below.”

“These two cherubim of matchless splendor, one standing at the right, the other at the left of the Shekinah glory, represent two special angels who are the ‘shining guardians’ of the law of God and of His ‘eternal throne,’ ‘the abiding place of the King of kings.’ PP 357; GC 414. They represent the ‘most exalted of the angel throng.’ These were with Christ throughout His life on earth, and they came to the tomb at His resurrection. John 20:12; DA 780, 830.  They are the two who at His ascension waited in sympathy and love to comfort the disciples with the assurance: ‘This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven.’ Acts 1:11; DA 780, 831, 832.” PTG

One of the angels was Gabriel, the one appointed to replace Lucifer as covering cherub. Lucifer, who became Satan, lost his honored position. He dared sin against GOD and then refuse GOD’s mercy.

“How utterly incomprehensible that the evil ambitions of Lucifer, whose place at the throne of God was taken by Gabriel could blind his eyes to his marvelous privileges and opportunities! And equally incomprehensible is it that human beings can throw away their prospects of the future immortal life in the glorious and sinless home of eternal peace and joy for a few paltry and fleeting pleasures of sin!” PTG

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says, “It’s a blessing to be a medical missionary.” A medical missionary primarily is one who does hands-on treatments to nurture the sick. But a medical missionary can be one who provides assistance for that work, whether it be a wellness administrator, educator, pastor, writer, host or cohost of a wellness broadcast ministry.

Those who visit the sick or aged to offer comfort, read God’s Word, or minister in song are medical missionaries. People, even the stoic, can be brought into a sense of the presence of God through songs, like “Does Jesus Care?” Pastor Flemons recently witnessed a tearful softening of hearts as he sang that song to a normally stoic family, facing the impending loss of a loved one.

Whatever medical missionary role you are called to, do it faithfully, and God will faithfully reward your efforts. For His Word will never return unto Him void. He says in Isaiah 58:10 and 11, “If thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day; and the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.”
