Worship: A Sabbath of Rest / Wellness: The Origin of Meat Eating

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  On penalty of death, no servile or common work was to be done on the Sabbath, especially in observance of the Day of Atonement. This requirement applied to all Israelites and strangers among them. “The entire thought and time of every true Israelite was to be centered on the services of the day. There was to be no divided heart,–the day of atonement demanded complete and whole-hearted consecration of every power.”

Now, as we are in the real Day of Atonement, “all our time, all our income, all our energy of body, mind, and soul, all our labors of whatsoever nature, should be devoted to the sole purpose of advancing and finishing the work of God. . . . With such a complete consecration to God, with our all on the altar, our offering will indeed be a sweet savor to God.”

We must realize that we represent another Kingdom and reveal God in whatever we do, says Pastor Flemons. He says, “We must get into no enterprise out of harmony with God’s work.” While we must not think that this means that we can’t do any secular work, says Pastor Flemons, “We should not be just out to make money.” Whatever we do must reflect the imminent return of Jesus. This is our privilege. “We are ambassadors for Jesus Christ.”

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, compared the lifespans of Bible characters living before the worldwide flood to those living after the flood. There is a marked distinction. Those living prior to the flood had an average lifespan of 912 years. The lifespan of those living after the flood dramatically decreased to 317 years, within only the first ten generations. Today, when anyone lives to the age of only 100, it is a great reason to celebrate.

The reason is diet, particularly meat eating. The original diet excluded meat. Only nuts, grains, fruits and vegetables were approved for man’s diet, according to Genesis 1:29. After man sinned, the herbs of the field were added, according to Genesis 3:18. Herbs, even today, have the distinction of healing man’s diseases. Pastor Flemons noted that only these food groups (nuts, grains, fruits, vegetables, herbs) are not linked to major diseases. Meat eating, however, most definitely is.

During the flood all vegetation died. In its place, the flesh (without the blood) of certain animals was temporarily approved for man’s diet for the survival of humanity. Nevertheless, meat remained a common dietary element among those who refused to return to the original diet. Thus the lifespan is what it is today. “If we want to live longer,” says Pastor Flemons, “let’s get back to God’s original diet.”

Words of Encouragement

Acts 2:14-16  But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. (Also read the devotional book, Ye Shall Receive Power, YRP 322.)

1 John 2:15, 16  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (Also read My Life Today, ML 71.)
