Worship: Christians, Colorful Cosmetics, Jewelry, Flashy Clothes #1 / Wellness: How to Rely on God

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  God is light. The Bible (Psalm 104:2) says that light is His garment. Since man was made in God’s image, Adam and Eve were also robed in light. Indeed, they reflected the light of God.

“. . . A beautiful soft light, the light of God, enshrouded the holy pair. This robe of light was a symbol of their spiritual garments of heavenly innocence. Had they remained true to God it would ever have continued to enshroud them. But when sin entered, they severed their connection with God, and the light that had encircled them departed. Naked and ashamed, they tried to supply the place of the heavenly garments by sewing together fig leaves for a covering. {COL 310.4}

“This is what the transgressors of God’s law have done ever since the day of Adam and Eve’s disobedience. They have sewed together fig leaves to cover the nakedness caused by transgression. They have worn the garments of their own devising, by works of their own they have tried to cover their sins, and make themselves acceptable with God. {COL 311.1}”

The wearing of jewelry, then, is man’s attempt to draw attention to self in hopes of appearing acceptable. Wherever there is gross darkness, God’s people should be noticed, says Pastor Flemons. But it should be their character that must shine out to the world that directs others to God and not to the jewelry that deflects thoughts away from God. “Let your light shine,” says Pastor Flemons, “without robbing God.”

[For additional details, please read Genesis 1:26, 27; 2:25; 3:6, 7; Psalm 104:2; Ephesians 1:18; COL 310, 311; and Matthew 5:16. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons and hear him sing Hymn 309, “I Surrender All.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, explained how to rely on God in a seven-step process.

For one, study your Bible daily for at least a half hour and increase the study time.

2. Study upon waking, and meditate upon Scripture before going to bed.

3. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. (Read John 16:13.)

4. Have morning and evening family devotions that consist of singing, Bible or inspirational reading, discussion, and prayer.

5. Believe every Bible promise as though it has already happened. But first, be sure to meet the condition.

6. Commit to memory the promises of healing, such as can be found in Exodus 15:26; Psalm 103:1-3; 2 Chronicles 7:14; 3 John 1:2; Jeremiah 30:17; 17:14; Isaiah 57:18, 19; James 5:14, 15.

7. Study the healing miracles of Jesus and draw from them principles based on Christ’s examples. Read John 4:43-54 (nobleman’s son); John 5:1-15 (invalid at the pool of Bethesda); Mark 2:1-12 (man with palsy lowered through roof); Luke 7:1-10 (centurion’s servant); Matthew 9:27-31 (two blind men); Matthew 12:22-32 (blind and dumb demoniac); Mark 7:31-37 (deaf mute at Decapolis); John 9:1-41 (man born blind); Luke 14:1-4 (man with dropsy); Mark 10:46-52 (blind Bartimaeus); Mark 1:29-31 (Peter’s mother-in-law); Mark 1:40-45 (a leper); Mark 3:1-6 (man with withered hand); Matthew 9:32-34 (dumb demoniac); Matthew 9:20-22, Mark 5:25-32, Luke 8:43-48 (woman with issue of blood); Mark 8:22-30 (blind man at Bethsaida); Luke 13:10-17 (woman loosed from her infirmity); Luke 17:11-19 (ten lepers); Jesus’ last act of healing before Crucifixion: Luke 22:49, 50 and John 18:10, 11 (replaces severed ear of Malchus, servant of the high priest).

The Bible is the great book of health and healing, according to Proverbs 4:20-22; 3:8. Pastor Flemons says that if you don’t rely on God, you will have excess stress. It is now known that stress can kill you. Stress affects your muscles. It affects your bones. It affects your brain. It affects your heart. It affects every aspect of your life. But relying on God, gives peace and life.

Words of Encouragement

Acts 5:40, 41  And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. (Also read the devotional book, Ye Shall Receive Power, YRP 326.)

Daniel 6:4  Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. (Also read My Life Today, ML 75.)
