Worship: Thorny Ground Hearers – Revival Day 3 / Wellness From the Word

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Thorny ground hearers, according to Matthew, Mark and Luke, are those who allow the cares of this world, along  with its deceitful riches and pleasures to choke out the Word of Life. In such cases, no fruit of the Spirit can be brought to perfection.

“Cares, riches, pleasures, all are used by Satan in playing the game of life for the human soul. The warning is given, ‘Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.’ 1 John 2:15, 16. He who reads the hearts of men as an open book says, ‘Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and cares of this life.’ Luke 21:34. And the apostle Paul by the Holy Spirit writes, ‘They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil; which, while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.’ 1 Timothy 6:9, 10.” {COL 55.2}

“Grace can thrive only in the heart that is being constantly prepared for the precious seeds of truth. The thorns of sin will grow in any soil; they need no cultivation; but grace must be carefully cultivated. The briers and thorns are always ready to spring up, and the work of purification must advance continually.”  {COL 50.4}

We must take the time to spend with God to develop and cultivate the fruit of the Spirit, says Pastor Flemons. The heart must be kept under the control of God. And the Holy Spirit must be allowed to work unceasingly to refine and ennoble the character. Only through this unceasing work of the Holy Spirit can we reflect the perfect image of Christ.

[For additional details, please read Matthew 13:7, 22; Mark 4:18,19; Luke 8:14Christ’s Object Lessons, COL 50-55; and Galatians 5:19, 20.  And listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 495, “Near to the Heart of God.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, referring to the Bible says that there is always a cause for the curse or disease, or it would not come. Modern medicine often categorizes diseases as idiopathic, meaning that the cause is unknown. But the Bible, through King Solomon and Job, tells us that we must know and search out the cause. (Read Proverbs 26:2; Job 29:16.)

These two principles must be applied to recover from any disease, says Pastor Flemons. This is how we cooperate with God for healing. He says that reviewing the laws of health will help us both trace and identify the cause.

“Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health.  In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.” {MH 127.1}
