Worship: Oracles of God / Wellness: Hangovers

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The expressed will of God is in the oracles of God. “God gave the Hebrew church every “advantage” – “Much every way,” but “chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.” Rom. 3:1,2. An oracle is defined as a revelation of the will of a deity. To the Hebrew church the Divine Deity gave a revelation of His will when He spoke His law from Sinai, and anyone desiring to know the will of this Deity will find it only by consulting His law – His oracle. That this oracle might not be lost sight of, God Himself with His own finger engraved it in tables of stone. That its sacredness might be most deeply impressed on His people, it was enshrined in the ark in the most holy place of the sanctuary, directly beneath the Shekinah, the visible symbol of the presence of the Deity, and overshadowed by two angels of beaten gold, representing the “shining guardians” – guards of honor – or His throne and His holy law. PP 357. This law together with divine revelations from the Shekinah and from the urim and the thummim in the breastplate worn by the high priest, composed the “oracles” of God.

“The Hebrew church was the only organization on earth that had a knowledge of the true God or of His divine law which, in the fourth or Sabbath commandment, distinguishes Him above all gods, as the Creator of “heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is.” Ex. 20:10,11. It was this knowledge of the true Deity and His law that gave the Jew the “advantage” over every other nation. Rom. 3:1,2. All others, because they knew not the Creator, because they knew not His oracle, were idol worshipers “having no hope, and without God in the world.” Eph. 2:12. With a heart observance of the Sabbath of God’s law – an institution commemorative of the Creator and His creative work – there never could have been an idol worshiper.”

[For additional details, please read Romans 3:1,2; Exodus 31:18; 25:16, 21; Proverbs 13:15; and “The Oracles of God” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 202 original. PTG 275 latest edition. PTG 153 online.) Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 271, “Break Thou the Bread of Life.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed hangovers in conjunction with a ScientificAmerican.com article that he shared with listeners.

The article discussed reasons for hangovers, which it says is still under much debate. A hangover could be due to chemicals involved in alcohol metabolism. It could be hormonal. It could be due to dehydration or consuming far more than what can be tolerated.

The article listed other factors as well. “Individuals who drink alcohol rapidly, or without food, or without diluting it with nonalcoholic beverages, are more prone to developing a hangover. Mixing different alcoholic drinks can also cause a hangover. Additionally, smoking, loud music, flashing lights and decreased quality and quantity of sleep can exacerbate hangover headaches.”

“Approximately 75 percent of those who drink alcohol to intoxication will experience a hangover. Consumption of relatively large amounts of alcohol leads to more severe symptoms, which include headache, nausea, vomiting, thirst and dryness of mouth, tremors, dizziness, fatigue and muscle cramps.” And of course, there is often “an accompanying slump in occupational, cognitive or visual-spatial skills.” Certain symptoms that might go unnoticed include changes in blood pressure and rate of heartbeat.

The Bible warns against consuming the wine that alters the senses. In fact, the Bible says don’t even look at the wine that moves by itself. That would cover sizzling or sparkling wines. (Read Proverbs 23:31 and vss. 29-35.) However, the Bible recommends the wine that we call grape juice for an upset stomach. (Read 1 Timothy 5:23.) Grape juice is alkaline, like any other antacid, says Pastor Flemons. For those who want to see it differently, he says, “Stop reading the Bible with your own urges.”

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 24:3, 4  Thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: but thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 57.)

2 Corinthians 5:19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 53.)

Worship: Birthday of the Church / Wellness: Don’t Eat Too Much Cake

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “God spoke His law from Sinai on the fiftieth day from the ‘morrow after’ Israel ate the first Passover, Lev. 23:15,16, when they were delivered from Egypt. The day was then named Pentecost, a word meaning fiftieth. This first Pentecost was the birthday of the Hebrew church.”

Similarly, Pastor Flemons in marking his 51st birthday, said that he wants to honor God more now than in his first fifty years. He says, “God gave wonderful principles by which we can live.” He read Acts 2, that describes the day of Pentecost in which God’s people were filled with the Spirit. He also read Exodus 31:3, and shared his personal prayer, which is to be “filled” “with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.” Let’s give our minds to God, he says, that we may be in harmony with His will for our lives. Also “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord” (Acts 3:19).

[For additional details, please read Exodus 31:3; Acts 2; and “The First Pentecost The Birthday of the Hebrew Church” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 202 original. Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, mentioned how it is that often on one’s birthday, too much cake gets eaten during the course of too much celebration. The excess celebration then leads to some kind of suffering soon afterward.

His message was simple and to the point, “Don’t eat too much cake!” In other words, practice self-control. Don’t eat anything that is harmful. And only eat in moderation those things that are healthy. Being that it was his birthday, Pastor Flemons determined to practice what he preaches.

(For further details, please listen to the recording.)

Chester), who went first, to the youngest (Sis. Audrey’s grandson Alex), who closed out the broadcast with a special prayer for the pastor.

Sis. Audrey closed with a text received from Sis. Kaven, who sends her “grateful thanks to the TOR family for their prayers, love and support during [her] father’s illness and recent passing.” She says, “Our Heavenly Father is Gentle, Merciful, and the Best Comforter for the grieving heart. Blessings!”

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today listener 5933, who came on to sing a song and pray in the pastor’s honor. Pastor Flemons has requested that we pray to God that he be filled with the Spirit in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.

Words of Encouragement

Hebrews 11:17-19  By faith Abraham when he was tried, offered up Isaac; and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, … accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 56.)

2 Corinthians 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 52.)

Worship: The Hebrew Church Organized / Wellness: Herbs for Healthy Eyes

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  God Himself organized the Hebrew church. “It was the first regularly organized church on this earth. Previous to this time, the worship of God had been conducted by each patriarch for his own household. The descendants of the patriarchs, to whom the promise of redemption had first been given, comprised the membership of this church.

“The first step in the organization of the Hebrew church was the giving of a ‘constitution,’ a fundamental law which expressed ‘the whole duty of man,’ and by which all should be guided. From the top of Mount Sinai, amid most awe-inspiring scenes and in the hearing of all the people assembled in the plain below, God with His own voice proclaimed the constitution for His church. This was the very same law that throughout the eternity of the past had guided the universe, and which would continue to be a guide for all the future. The constitution of an earthly government may be amended because finite human beings cannot see the end from the beginning, and their work may therefore be defective. But the ‘constitution’ of God’s government cannot be amended because, being infinite, ‘whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever. Nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before Him.’ Eccl. 3:14.

[For additional details, please read Genesis 12:1,2; Exodus 20; Galatians 5:1; Luke 6:46; and “The Hebrew Church Organized” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 201, 202 original. PTG 274 latest edition. PTG 152, 153 online.) Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 7, “The Lord in Zion Reigneth.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that eyebright and gingko, as well as bilberry are great herbs for the eyes.

Eyebright has long been used as a natural remedy to improve eyesight. Gingko specifically improves blood flow to the retina and has been very helpful to those with glaucoma. Bilberry contains powerful antioxidants and has been claimed to have improved night vision, as well as relieve tired eyes.

All are the ingredients in TOR’s eye formula, which will be available online this week. The eye formula, according to government regulations, he says, only comes as a tonic, which means a powder that can be added to water.

If there are no contraindications for you, Pastor Flemons advises drinking lots of carrot juice. Because carrot juice is high in natural estrogen, you do have to guard the amount you drink. Nevertheless, says Pastor Flemons, everyone can benefit from drinking one glass of carrot juice every day.

Words of Encouragement

Hebrews 11:16  Now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.  (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 55.)

Hebrews 6:19  Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 51.)

Worship: Four Phases of the Sanctuary / Wellness: Overcome Diabetes

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake What Christ personally went through for us, what He does for us individually and collectively as a church can be segmented into four phases. So can our personal lives. Pastor Flemons discussed or reviewed each.

The church’s four phases can be described as the Hebrew church, the Christian church, the Remnant church, and the church of the firstborn. The Hebrew church is the church of the court, where the sacrifices in the court symbolized Christ. The Christian church, which held Christ as “the true Sacrifice” and their “crucified, risen and ascended Lord,” is the church of the Holy Place. “The Remnant church, the last generation of the church on earth, not only accept Christ as their Sacrifice and their High Priest in the holy place above, but by faith they enter with Him into the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, where He now acts as Judge. This church may therefore be called the church of the most holy place.”

The church of the firstborn is “the church of the finally redeemed. This church by faith follow their Lord all the way from His sacrificial life in the court of earth, through His work as High Priest in the holy place above, and as Judge in the most holy place, till they ‘come. . .unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem.’ . . . This church . . . may be called the church of the temple eternal.”

Christ clothed His divinity in humanity and ministered among mankind until His crucifixion and ascension. That was phase one. His ministry as High Priest in the Heavenly Holy Place is phase two. His ministry as Intercessor and Judge in the Most Holy Place is phase three. Christ’s return to receive the faithful into Heaven is the final fourth phase.

The personal phases are similarly applied. The outer court experience of justification is phase one. The holy place experience of learning of Christ through studying His Word, praying for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and sharing the Gospel is phase two. Perfecting holiness with sober minds in the Most Holy Place is phase three. Getting to go to our heavenly home is our personal phase four.

[For additional details, please read John 14:6 and “The Four Generations of the Church” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 201 original. PTG 273, 274 latest edition. Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that diabetes can be reversed with diet and the REFRESHING lifestyle.

He says that a mostly a raw diet will do wonders for normalizing blood sugar. He recommends eating raw salads two times per day, including spirulina and chlorella, sprouts, avocados, garlic, onions, and olives. It is also great to include in your diet string beans or the juice from them, he says. They have natural insulin. Better yet, go on a green juice fast or feast. That will accelerate your results.

TOR has a diabetes formula, called Diabetez. It is available as a tea or a tonic. It contains Dandelion Root, Goldenseal, Raspberry Leaf, Uva Ursi, Elecampane, Juniper Berries, and Stevia. You should also add chromium as a supplement. Diabetics tend to be a bit deficient in chromium.

You are your own primary doctor, says Pastor Flemons.  And you are responsible to God for your own health. With that in mind, he advises finding a physician who will honor managing your health with diet and lifestyle. That is important, because as your blood sugar normalizes, prescription medications should be adjusted as well, until they are no longer needed.

Meanwhile, make lifestyle changes that will support your healing. The REFRESHING lifestyle is highly recommended. It is a 10-point principle for health and healing: The R is Rely on God. It relieves distress that would otherwise kill you. E is Eat healthy. You must eat a plant-based diet; it adds years to our lives. F is Fresh air. A continual supply of fresh air invigorates the blood. R is Rest. You must rest nightly by 9:30. In this way, the body is renewed to function the next day. It helps avoid excess stress, which raises blood sugar. E is Exercise! Vigorously exercising five times a week helps keep the blood strong and free of toxins. S is Self-control. Avoiding all harmful things and only doing in moderation those things that are good is essential to maintaining a healthy body and mind. H is H2O, drink water. Drinking in ounces half of your body weight is to be your daily minimum intake. It is essential for all channels of elimination. I is In the sun. Twenty minutes of sunlight is daily recommended. This is how you get your vitamin D, build your immune system, and lock calcium in your bones. N is Never give up. You must persevere. And the G is Give to others. God promises a special blessing to givers.

Words of Encouragement

Luke 17:32  Remember Lot’s wife. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 54.)

Thessalonians 2:16, 17  Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 50.)

Worship: 666 / Wellness: Spirulina and Chlorella

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “A text out of context is a pretext,” says Pastor Flemons. Every Bible text, therefore, must be read within its context. To do that, he says, is to always read the surrounding verses. That will give you a clue as to the meaning of the text. Then stay as close as possible to the context, keeping in mind that some texts have more than one application.

Pastor Flemons says that Revelation 13:18 may be just such a text. The text specifically mentions counting the number of the beast. The beast, as described in the first ten verses of the chapter and as history records, points to the Roman Catholic Church, as Pastor Flemons discussed in greater detail. And in Roman numerals the title of the pope (Vicarius Filii Dei) does add up to the number 666. However, the primary application of identifying the number of the beast, he believes, has to do with the image beast.

He then shared a reading from what he says is Ellen G. White’s only reference to 666. From A Word to the Little Flock, p. 19, he read this:

“I saw all that ‘would not receive the mark of the Beast, and of his Image, in their foreheads or in their hands,’ could not buy or sell. 5 I saw that the number (666) of the Image Beast was made up; 6 and that it was the beast that changed the Sabbath, and the Image Beast had followed on after, and kept the Pope’s, and not God’s Sabbath. And all we were required to do, was to give up God’s Sabbath, and keep the Pope’s, and then we should have the mark of the Beast, and of his Image.” {WLF 19.1}

She saw, says Pastor Flemons, that the number 666 is of the image of the beast: apostate Protestantism, primarily in America. The context is buying and selling, says Pastor Flemons, who read the only other two Bible texts that mention 666: 1 Kings 10:14 and 2 Chronicles 9:13. Both mention only the weight of gold, which may refer to its importance or influence, says Pastor Flemons. Certainly, there will be an economic pressure that challenges our eternal salvation.

Four things that the saints of God must overcome in the Last Days, he says, are revealed in Revelation 15:2. These must overcome the beast (the Papacy), his mark (enforced Sunday worship), his image (influence of apostate Protestant religious leaders), and the number of his name.

Economically speaking, Pastor Flemons says that we can learn a lot from the self-reliance of the Amish culture, which is financially prosperous. Like them, we must learn now how to do without the convenience of earthly supports and the influence of money in order to be ready for the time of the end. Our dependence must be on God alone.

[For additional details, please read Revelation 13:18; Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6;  Revelation 16:15; 2 Thessalonians 2:3; Revelation 17:15; Daniel 7:23; John 10:33; Mark 14:64; 2:7; 1 Kings 10:14; Revelation 182 Chronicles 9:13. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 469, “Leaning On the Everlasting Arms.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that if you are on a raw diet, you would be wise to include spirulina and chlorella. They are superfoods. Spirulina is already an ingredient in TOR’s AAA Supertonic Superfood. However, chlorella is soon to be added, he says.

From a naturalstacks.com article on the top five benefits of spirulina and chlorella, Pastor Flemons read this:

“Spirulina and chlorella are the missing nutrient in your diet that are 1000X more powerful than fruits and vegetables.

“However, the truth is, one gram of algae – the amount in a single tablet – contains the nutritional equivalent of 1,000 grams of fruits and vegetables.

“So make no mistake about it, these nutrient dense blue green algae, Spirulina (a bacteria) and Chlorella (a plant) are true superfoods.

“Spirulina contains 2.5X more protein per ounce than steak and 2-5X more antioxidants per ounce than leading fruits and vegetables.

“A mere 30 gram serving of chlorella has 5X the chlorophyll content of kale and contains more iron than liver.

“They’re also the most potent source of plant-based omega-3’s and Vitamin B12 – making them a powerful supplement for non-meat eaters.”

Words of Encouragement

2 Peter 2:6  And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 53.)

Isaiah 54:8  In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 49.)

Worship: Our Test / Wellness: Distress Can Kill You

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Every command of God is a promise that we can do whatever He commands with His help. Like Joshua, says Pastor Flemons, we are commanded not to be afraid, but to be of good courage. (Read Joshua 1:9.) Sharing counsel from Last Day Events, a book of compilations, Pastor Flemons read this statement and gave his own counsel:

“When the religion of Christ is most held in contempt, when His law is most despised, then should our zeal be the warmest and our courage and firmness the most unflinching. To stand in defense of truth and righteousness when the majority forsake us, to fight the battles of the Lord when champions are few—this will be our test. At this time we must gather warmth from the coldness of others, courage from their cowardice, and loyalty from their treason.—Testimonies for the Church 5:136 (1882).” {LDE 180.4}

Pastor Flemons gives this advice: Let us not be like the Peter, who was ready to take his sword and defend truth, yet would not stand in defense of righteousness.

[For additional details, please read Joshua 1:9; Last Day Events, LDE 180.4; and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 76, “O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says it is not stress but “distress” that can kill you. Using Bible texts, like Genesis 32:27, Pastor says stress is not the problem. You can’t even sit up straight, unless there is stress, he says. It is when we lose our faith that we become distressed, which negatively affects our health. A burden is placed on the immune system and on every system of the body, because toxins are released that poison the body system.

We must learn to rely on God, says Pastor Flemons. Furthermore, it is imperative to never be in a position to knowingly do the wrong thing and still expect the blessing of God. That is presumption. That is sin, and sin is deadly.

(For further details, please listen to the recording.)

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 19:1, 2  And there came two angels to Sodom at even: and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; … and he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night.  (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 52.)

Lamentations 3:21, 22  This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 48.)

Worship: The Humanity of Christ / Wellness: Control Your Circumstances

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The Holy Spirit series ended with the humanity of Christ and how He relied on the Holy Spirit to live a sinless life. Although we cannot fully explain Christ, there are some things that we do know about Him. We know that Christ depended on the Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 4:15 and 2:14-18 tell us that Christ was touched with our infirmities. He was tempted in all points as is any human being. Even more than that, Christ had to suppress divinity. He had to resist using any power that was not available to us. “He had to pray. He had to agonize,” says Pastor Flemons. No, we can’t fully explain it, he says. But Jesus clothed His divinity with humanity. He was not any less human, and yet He did no sin. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can do the same.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need,” (Hebrews 4:16).

[For additional details, please read Hebrews 4:15; 2:14-18; and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, spoke from his heart about how people tend to go with the flow of the day at the risk of poor health. Too often people don’t take time to cook. They don’t even take the time to eat. “Stop letting circumstances control you,” he says. “Control your circumstances.” You cannot always meet the demands of everyone. Don’t always be too busy to take care of yourself. Learn to say No.

Then take the time and plan ahead to stay healthy or get healthy. For instance, if you know that you cannot go out for a walk, don’t just give up and sit down. Walk inside of your home. Why not walk in place near a window where you can get the benefit of fresh air?

Also, if you know you are traveling or on the go, include in your plans ways you can practice the REFRESHING lifestyle. You might have to take along a cooler or a juicer or a crockpot. You might have to take along some special food products not easily found in stores. If you don’t do it for yourself, who will?

The first duty to God and to man is self-development, says Pastor Flemons, who shared this reading:

“Our first duty toward God and our fellow-beings is that of self-development. Every faculty with which the Creator has endowed us should be cultivated to the highest degree of perfection, that we may be able to do the greatest amount of good of which we are capable. Hence that time is spent to good account which is used in the establishment and preservation of physical and mental health. We cannot afford to dwarf or cripple any function of body or mind. As surely as we do this, we must suffer the consequences.” {CTBH 41.2}

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 18:23, 25  And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? … That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: … Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 51.)

Romans 8:4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 47.)

Worship: Trinitarian and Binitarian Errors / Wellness: Meals Before Pills: Staying the Course

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Trinitarians and binitarians, says Pastor Flemons, err in their doctrine of God being as conjoined triplets or twins: three heads or two heads joined in one physical body. Trinitarians believe in three persons in one being. Binitarians believe in two separate beings: God, the Father and God, the Son. But God, the Holy Spirit, emanates from them–not as a separate Being. Remember, Jesus said that He would send another Comforter.” Then He, the Comforter–meaning in fact another Divine Person–would “testify” of Jesus. (Read John 15:26.)

Both doctrines (trinitarianism and binitarianism) fit what the Bible refers to as “the broad way,” says Pastor Flemons. (Read Matthew 7:13, 14.) Both doctrines are really “spiritualism,” he adds. “Spiritualism is controlling our beliefs, and we don’t even know it,” he says. The narrow way keeps you right where you need to be. Anything else takes you off course, he warns.

For the record, says Pastor Flemons, these statements should be taken literally:

“There are three living persons of the heavenly trio; in the name of these three great powers –the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit–those who receive Christ by living faith are baptized, and these powers will co-operate with the obedient subjects of heaven in their efforts to live the new life in Christ.– Special Testimonies, Series B, No. 7, pp. 62, 63. (1905)”  {Ev 615.1}

“The Godhead was stirred with pity for the race, and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit gave Themselves to the working out of the plan of redemption.”  {CH 222}

“The nature of the Holy Spirit is a mystery. Men cannot explain it, because the Lord has not revealed it to them. Men having fanciful views may bring together passages of Scripture and put a human construction on them, but the acceptance of these views will not strengthen the church. Regarding such mysteries, which are too deep for human understanding, silence is golden. {AA 52.1}

[For additional details, please read John 15:26; 16:13Evangelism 615.1-617.3; Counsels on Health, CH 222Acts of the Apostles, AA 52.1. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 262, “Sweet, Sweet Spirit.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, referred to two Bible texts: Ecclesiastes 9:11; and Matthew 24:13. The message in them is that the race is not given to the swift one, but to the one who endures to the end. That is essentially the message in full. Just because you don’t immediately feel bad, every time you do an unhealthy practice, don’t go off course, warns Pastor Flemons. Instead, stay the course. Don’t deviate from the REFRESHING way lifestyle.

Continue relying upon God to heal you and keep you healthy. Continue to eat a whole foods, plant-based diet, avoiding meat, eggs, and dairy products. Continue getting fresh air. Continue getting good rest by being in bed by 9:30 in the evenings. Continue getting your daily exercise. Continue practicing self-control by avoiding all things harmful and doing only in moderation those things that are healthy. Continue drinking in ounces half the weight of your body. Continue getting in the sun. Never give up. And continue giving to others. That is the REFRESHING way lifestyle for health and healing.

Words of Encouragement

Hebrews 13:2  Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 50.)

Hosea 11:4  I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 46.)

Worship: Christ’s Divinity Clothed in Humanity / Wellness: Meals b4 Pills: Caffeine, Chocolate Lead to Hypertension

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Christ has forever clothed His divinity in humanity. He lay aside divinity to come to live in this world. Although we cannot fully understand it or explain it, says Pastor Flemons, Jesus made Himself dependent upon divine power as we must. Jesus bound Himself by a pledge that He must have no quality nor exercise any power, except that which is also available to humanity. Jesus had to depend upon the power of the Holy Spirit, just as humanity must in order to live the life of Christ and do the works of Christ for the saving of humanity.

“He [Christ] saw the power—the deceptive power—of Satan upon human minds, and He engaged [bound Himself by a pledge] to come to this earth. He lays aside the robes of His royalty, He lays off His royal crown, He lays off His high command, He steps down from the throne of His glory as High Commander in all heaven, and clothes His divinity with humanity, that humanity might touch humanity. That is what He came here for. He came right down to our earth to take upon Himself the nature of man, to pass through all the trials, all the afflictions and temptations wherewith man should be beset, and here He wrestled with these temptations, passing over the ground where Adam fell, that He might redeem the disgraceful failure and fall of Adam. {1MCP 184.4}

“In human nature, as our substitute, as our surety, He laid hold upon the very hope that it is our privilege to take hold of, and that is infinite power. Through this, our Saviour overcame the temptations of the enemy and obtained the victory. . . ” {1MCP 185.1}

Be sure to understand this: “Christ did not exchange His divinity for humanity, but combined humanity with divinity; and in humanity He lived the law in behalf of the human family. The sins of every one who will receive Christ were set to His account, and He has fully satisfied the justice of God.” {FE 429.2}

[For additional details, please read Mind, Character and Personality1MCP 184, 185; and Fundamentals of Christian Education, FE 429. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that when the body is stimulated to fight or flee when under attack, such as by a bear, the body releases hormones from the adrenal glands: adrenaline, being one of them. In the process, the blood vessels become constricted. The heart rate is increased. Thus, blood pressure is increased.

Similarly, your diet can put your body in a sustained fight-or-flight crisis. When you eat products, like chocolate, or drink liquids, like caffeine, certain hormones in the body are secreted that constrict the blood vessels and raise the heart rate to increase blood flow that has become hindered. In this way, blood pressure is increased. When sustained, this leads to hypertension.

Try ginseng, says Pastor Flemons. Ginseng is a much better boost than caffeine, without the negative side effects of caffeine.

(For further details, please listen to the recording.)

Genesis 18:19  For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 49.)

Psalm 103:13, 14  Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 45.)

Worship: “I will come unto you”: What Did He Mean? / Wellness: How Meat, Dairy Raise BP

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Just as one person can represent an entire company, says Pastor Flemons, the Holy Spirit represents the entire Godhead. He is the Godhead’s personal Representative on Earth. It is that simple.

Beyond that “It is not essential for us to be able to define just what the Holy Spirit is. Christ tells us that the Spirit is the Comforter, ‘the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father.’ It is plainly declared regarding the Holy Spirit that, in His work of guiding men into all truth, ‘He shall not speak of Himself.’ John 15:26; 16:13. {AA 51.3}

“The nature of the Holy Spirit is a mystery. Men cannot explain it, because the Lord has not revealed it to them. Men having fanciful views may bring together passages of Scripture and put a human construction on them, but the acceptance of these views will not strengthen the church. Regarding such mysteries, which are too deep for human understanding, silence is golden.” {AA 52.1}

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that eating meat and dairy increases the load of free radicals in the body. Free radicals damage the walls of the arteries. The body responds by bandaging the arteries with cholesterol patches. This naturally produced cholesterol, together with the cholesterol from eating meat and dairy, clogs the arteries and inhibits blood flow. Therefore the blood pressure is raised.

Another way meat and dairy increases blood pressure happens because the body senses that the meat and dairy are toxic. This puts an increased risk on the body. In its effort to quickly excrete the toxins, the physical stress can cause weight loss. This kind of weight loss as a strategy, however, says Pastor Flemons, is unhealthy. The metabolism is faster, but also the heart rate will be increased. The blood vessels will constrict. Blood flow is hindered. And blood pressure is increased.

Exodus 34:7  Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 44.)
