Worship: Worshipping God in the Spirit / Wellness: The Protein Myth

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “We are to worship God in spirit, but we are also to worship Him in truth,” says Pastor Flemons. He referred to John 4:32, where Jesus described the nature of the true worshipper of God. He also discussed obedience to the Word of God, even in the order of speaking in a foreign language during worship services, which has been misunderstood relative to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Flemons also discussed the influence of Vatican II on worship in Christian churches across denominational lines. From that time on, he says, more and more churches included drums in their praise to God. There’s nothing wrong with happiness and joy, says Pastor Flemons. But the music and dancing and trancelike movements are not evidence of having the Holy Spirit.

Walking in the Spirit means not fulfilling the lusts of the flesh or having confidence in the flesh. It is not about a happy feeling, says Pastor Flemons. Just having a happy feeling suppresses the Word of God. God gives us a clear word in and through Jesus, who lived by every word that proceeded from the mouth of His Father God. God has the best way for our happiness, but it is not based on emotion. Happiness is based on obedience. Psalm 144:15 says, “Happy is that people, whose God is the Lord.”

The Laodicean message of Revelation 3:17 describes a people with a happy, good-feeling experience, without realizing their true miserably wretched state of being. That is opposite to walking in the Spirit. It is opposite to victory over sin.

[For additional details, please read John 4:23; 1 Corinthians 14:2John 16:13; Galatians 5:16; Philippians 3:3; Revelation 3:17; and WLF 12. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 590, “Trust and Obey.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, dispelled the protein myth that promotes flesh-eating as the way to get protein in the diet and maintain a healthy balance in the body system. The truth is, he says, is that diabetes, hypertension, and such conditions like the autoimmune diseases do not develop because of a lack of protein, but because of too much protein and fat in the diet. The myth further promotes the idea that unless you eat flesh you don’t eat a complete protein.

The truth is that the body stores the building blocks that comprise a complete protein. A combination of beans and rice or a variety of nuts, seeds, legumes, and grains will be paired into a complete protein. The body does the pairing. We only need to eat a variety of whole foods, nuts and grains.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 28:22  And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.  (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 65.)

1 John 3:13  Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 61.)

Worship: How to Study the Bible, Part 4 / Wellness: How to Relieve Stress with Diet

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Having discussed studying the Bible precept upon precept, next was line upon line.  “Line upon line,” means word upon word, says Pastor Flemons, as he quoted Psalm 19:1-4, after asking two important questions: What shape is the earth? And What shape is the world?

If you see a Scripture, he says, read the text above it and below it. Never isolate a verse and pull it away from its context. Using Acts 10:1-6, 9-19, and verse 28, he illustrated what happens when you fail to do that and why you shouldn’t. It’s about our attitude, as well, he says. Isaiah 29:13 lets us know that our attitude determines our altitude in understanding  God’s Word.

In its teachings, the Bible is consistent from Genesis to Revelation, says Pastor Flemons. We just need to be humble and be willing to follow wherever Christ leads, even if it means leaving our mother church.

[For additional details, please read Isaiah 28:10 and Isaiah 29:13. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 271, “Break Thou the Bread of Life.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that you can relieve stress with diet. A diet of sugary foods causes the body to assume and remain in a fight-or-flight state of being. The body can endure long abuse. However, over time abuse debilitates the body. Blood pressure is raised. Heart rate is increased. Muscles remain tense.

The way out is a total plant-based, whole foods diet, says Pastor Flemons. He says you should eat lots of raw foods, lots of vegetables, and whole grains. Vary the grains, he says. Especially include quinoa and millet and cous cous. They are high in the B vitamins, he says.

He also advises eating lots of sprouts. He specifically named alfalfa sprouts, but encourages eating other kinds of sprouts as well. By all means, however, you must stop eating sugary foods. Even naturally sweetened fruits may need to be avoided until the body has been reset.

Chia seeds in grape juice is a wonderful treat and way to include the omegas in the diet. Omegas also reduce stress. Pastor Flemons shared a quick and easy recipe for gelling chia seeds in grape juice or in a stevia sweetened lemonade for those with sugar restrictions. He says, “It’s delicious!”

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 28:12  And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.  (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 64.)

Ephesians 5:2  And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 60.)

Worship: How the Study the Bible, Part 3 / Wellness: Relieve Stress with Exercise

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “God wants us prepared for Heaven. That is most important for us today,” says Pastor Flemons. We must study God’s word precept upon precept. Precepts are principles, doctrines. All the Bible will show its consistency with principle, with doctrine. The Bible is consistent from Genesis to Revelation. The problem is that readers of the Bible typically do not understand how to study biblical precepts. (Read Isaiah 28:10.)

Consider Genesis 6:19, 20, 21; Daniel 1; Deuteronomy 14: Leviticus 11; Mark 7:1-23; and Acts 10:1-28. Particularly note verse 17 and 28. Although all the previous Bible passages clearly agree, Acts 10 must be read through at least through verse 28 to finally understand that it has no reference to food at all, but to racial prejudice. Yet, Acts 10 is commonly used as a reason to eat any and everything, as though God approves or commanded it to be so.

We must realize that some biblical dreams must be taken symbolically, not literally. One verse cannot be used to nullify a host of other verses that agree on a doctrine. No Scripture can be ignored. All Scripture will agree. Studying according to biblical mandate is the key. “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” That’s Isaiah 28:10.

[For additional details, please read Isaiah 29:13 and Matthew 15:7-9. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says when you are overwhelmed to the point you feel stressed out, that is distress. It can kill you. The best thing to do is to take it to the Lord in prayer, while you get out into the fresh air and exercise in nature. Walking and talking to the Lord is best.

This will relieve distress. It will relax muscle tension. It will normalize blood pressure. It will decrease blood fats and blood sugar. It will detoxify the blood and preserve the health of the immune system. It can help save your life.

(For further details, please listen to the recording.)

Deuteronomy 10:12  And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 59.)

Worship: How to Study the Bible, Part 2 / Wellness: Elderberry Better Than Flu Shot

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Why do we have so many different denominations? Pastor Flemons says that we all have the same book. We all profess the same God. And that’s what make God look so bad. It causes people to decide to follow other kinds of religious teachings that is anything other than Christian. It’s because we have not learned how to study the Bible that so many different beliefs are held. We need not be misled into different beliefs, says Pastor Flemons. God has shown that He will cause us to be led into truth and how to know that a thing is of God. (Read Genesis 41:32.)

If we find that we hold a belief that is not biblical, says Pastor Flemons, we need to admit that we have just simply messed up and determine to be in harmony with God. That is the life that brings order and peace. It also puts us in charge. The Bible says that when we put Him first, He will cause our thoughts to be established. Psalm 37:5 says “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

[For additional details, please read Isaiah 28:10; Genesis 41:32. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 272, “Give Me the Bible.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says elderberry is better than vaccines for flu. He read a health.news article that says this:

“Studies have confirmed its effectiveness against both influenza A and B (a feat which the influenza shot seems to be incapable of), resistant and non-resistant staph infections, herpes simplex, and many others.

“Elderberry has good, old-fashioned, published science to back it up. Natural Health 365 reported:

“The science is solid. For example, an Israeli double-blind study found that patients taking elderberry at the onset of flu-like symptoms saw improvement within 48 hours, as compared to those receiving a placebo who took 6 days to begin seeing improvement.”

Worship: How to Study the Bible, Part 1 / Wellness: Less Is More

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “The sanctuary keeps you focused on Jesus,” says Pastor Flemons. And the Bible gives us Jesus. “When the Bible tells us something, we should take it literally,”until we can see that we must take it symbolically.

Certainly, you must approach the Bible and biblical themes with a humble and teachable spirit. If you approach Bible study with an all-knowing attitude, you won’t learn anything. First you need to learn of Jesus and accept Him as your personal Savior. The relationship with Jesus must be so solidified that we will be willing to leave even our mother church to follow Him.

[For additional details, please read Isaiah 28:7-9; Psalm 131:1,2; Hebrews 5:12; and 1 Peter 2:2. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that if you are guilty of eating too much food, skip a meal and get on the right track. Eat nutrient-rich foods. Eat two meals a day, ideally at 9 – 10 a.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. If you must eat your first meal really early and require a third meal, make that third meal a smoothie or a fruit meal for easy digestion.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 25:34  Thus Esau despised his birthright. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 61.)

Isaiah 53:10  Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 57.)

Worship: Structure Lost, the Church Lives / Wellness: Starving on a Full Stomach

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “To the Hebrew church God had given the promise, ‘If ye . . . hallow the Sabbath day, to do no work therein; then shall there enter into the gates of this city (Jerusalem) kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David . . . and this city shall remain forever.’ Jer. 17:24,25; 11 Chron. 33:4. But because Israel desecrated the Sabbath and went into idolatry with the nations around them, another prophecy was fulfilled: ‘But if ye will not hearken unto Me to hallow the Sabbath day, then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem. and it shall not be quenched.’ Jer. 17:27. Nevertheless, God’s plan that Jerusalem shall stand forever, will be carried out, not on this sinful earth, but in the heavenly Jerusalem where the seventh day, ‘the Sabbath of the Lord,’ Ex. 20:10, will be reverenced and observed throughout eternity by those who ‘enter in through the gates into the city’ of God.Isa. 66:23; Rev. 22:14.”

The church, says Pastor Flemons, preexisted the conference structure. The church is the faithful people of God. The structure, the official organization, will crumble. Nevertheless, it is God’s church, His people, that will go through to the end.

When your doctrine is false and not of God, you are an independent atom (even if you are an individual, organization or conference). Otherwise, when your doctrine is right and you are faithful to God, you belong to God’s church. “The church structure will be swept away,” says Pastor Flemons. “The church of God’s faithful people will go through.”

(PTG 203, 204 original. PTG 277 latest edition. PTG 154 online.) Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 348, “The Church Has One Foundation.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that if you are not getting vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients, but you are getting full of food, you are starving. Foods high in fats and calories, white flour products, white sugary products: all may fill you up. Yes. However, they do not supply your body the nutrients that it needs to be healthy. The brief but blazing message is simply, “Don’t starve on a full stomach!” Put your meals before pills. Eat a total plant-based, whole foods diet, and you will be eating healthy. You will not starve.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 25:27  And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 60.)

1 Peter 3:18  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 56.)

Worship: When a Church Proves Unfaithful / Wellness: Just Because You Don’t Feel Bad. . .

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  God will always have a church to represent Him and to do His mission. But the Hebrew Church failed in their mission to the world. They went so far that they failed even to recognize the Messiah. Instead of hailing Him as Savior and King, they persecuted Him and killed Him, because His rightdoing opposed their traditions.

“When doing what is right brings about persecution,” leave as did Christ, who could no longer walk among Jewry. Read John 7:1, says Pastor Flemons, who shared the following statement and discussed the support of God’s work.

The Lord Jesus will always have a chosen people to serve Him. When the Jewish people rejected Christ, the Prince of life, He took from them the kingdom of God and gave it unto the Gentiles. God will continue to work on this principle with every branch of His work. When a church proves unfaithful to the word of the Lord, whatever their position may be, however high and sacred their calling, the Lord can no longer work with them. Others are then chosen to bear important responsibilities. But if these in turn do not purify their lives from every wrong action; if they do not establish pure and holy principles in all their borders, then the Lord will grievously afflict and humble them, and, unless they repent, will remove them from their place and make them a reproach.” {14MR 102.1}

When God opens up other channels for carrying out His mission, these channels must be supported as His church. In that regard, Pastor read a number of other published writings regarding the returning of tithes to support medical missionary work, what defines the church of God, and the principles of Protestantism from the Protest of the Princes.

(PTG 203 original. PTG 276, 277 latest edition. PTG 154 online.) Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, shared a biblical principle all would do well to consider. Ecclesiastes 8:11 says, “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”

In other words, just because you don’t feel bad right away when you eat a piece of meat or dairy product or delectable sugary treat, that doesn’t mean that a payday isn’t coming. Don’t be like those the text speaks of, says Pastor Flemons. Just because it doesn’t make you feel bad immediately, don’t be determined to continue doing harm to your body.

(For further details, please listen to the recording.)

Words of Encouragement

Philippians 2:15  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 59.)

Romans 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 55.)

Worship: Purpose of the Hebrew Church / Wellness: Antioxidants

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  God has given to His church in every generation the “special assignment” of “carrying the everlasting gospel to the world. The task, the high and holy privilege, of the Hebrew church was to teach the idolatrous nations around them of the true and living God that inhabiteth eternity, and of the holy and just and eternal character of His law, His oracle.”

“. . .The Israelites had seen the utter helplessness of false gods; they had experienced the mighty power of the true God, the One who had delivered them in time of need. At Sinai they had witnessed His glory in the proclamation of His law, the fourth commandment of which identifies Him as the true God, the Creator. All this was intended to help them realize the importance and the seriousness of their mission.”

Furthermore, “they were given. . .Canaan, the cross roads of the nations, where they would be constantly in touch with those whom they were to help. All through the twenty-five hundred years of the supremacy of the Hebrew church, special emphasis was placed upon the Sabbath of God’s law, as evidence that He who created the world is the only true God, and that therefore heart obedience to His law is a necessary passport to heaven. The same eternal passport will be required of every succeeding generation of the church, for only ‘they that do His commandments. . .may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the City.’ Rev. 22:14.” PTG

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that antioxidants get rid of free radicals. The question “What Do Antioxidants Do?” got answered in an article bearing the same title. It states that antioxidants “neutralize free radicals, preventing them from damaging the body. They often act by donating electrons to free radicals, making them more stable. They also can degrade free radicals, rendering them harmless.”

According to the UniversityHealthNews.com article, free radicals are “highly unstable molecules produced naturally as a byproduct of chemical reactions in our cells and also when we are exposed to toxins. Free radicals are formed when the food we eat is converted into energy, when we exercise, and when we are exposed to things like sunlight, cigarette smoke, radiation, or pollution.”

It is when the body becomes overwhelmed with free radicals that DNA can become damaged and disease like cancer can develop. Also cellular walls can become compromised and allow entrance to extracellular substances. Antioxidants are the answer.

Foods high in antioxidants include fresh berries, kale and other green leafy vegetables, bell peppers, sunflower seeds, artichokes, pomegranates, and nuts. Although the article listed green tea and dark chocolate, Pastor Flemons warns against consuming them because they also contain caffeine.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 24:7  The Lord God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 58.)

Isaiah 44:22  I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins; return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 54.)

Worship: Oracles of God / Wellness: Hangovers

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The expressed will of God is in the oracles of God. “God gave the Hebrew church every “advantage” – “Much every way,” but “chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.” Rom. 3:1,2. An oracle is defined as a revelation of the will of a deity. To the Hebrew church the Divine Deity gave a revelation of His will when He spoke His law from Sinai, and anyone desiring to know the will of this Deity will find it only by consulting His law – His oracle. That this oracle might not be lost sight of, God Himself with His own finger engraved it in tables of stone. That its sacredness might be most deeply impressed on His people, it was enshrined in the ark in the most holy place of the sanctuary, directly beneath the Shekinah, the visible symbol of the presence of the Deity, and overshadowed by two angels of beaten gold, representing the “shining guardians” – guards of honor – or His throne and His holy law. PP 357. This law together with divine revelations from the Shekinah and from the urim and the thummim in the breastplate worn by the high priest, composed the “oracles” of God.

“The Hebrew church was the only organization on earth that had a knowledge of the true God or of His divine law which, in the fourth or Sabbath commandment, distinguishes Him above all gods, as the Creator of “heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is.” Ex. 20:10,11. It was this knowledge of the true Deity and His law that gave the Jew the “advantage” over every other nation. Rom. 3:1,2. All others, because they knew not the Creator, because they knew not His oracle, were idol worshipers “having no hope, and without God in the world.” Eph. 2:12. With a heart observance of the Sabbath of God’s law – an institution commemorative of the Creator and His creative work – there never could have been an idol worshiper.”

[For additional details, please read Romans 3:1,2; Exodus 31:18; 25:16, 21; Proverbs 13:15; and “The Oracles of God” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 202 original. PTG 275 latest edition. PTG 153 online.) Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 271, “Break Thou the Bread of Life.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed hangovers in conjunction with a ScientificAmerican.com article that he shared with listeners.

The article further discussed reasons for hangovers, which it says is still under much debate. A hangover could be due to chemicals involved in alcohol metabolism. It could be hormonal. It could be due to dehydration or consuming far more than what can be tolerated.

The article listed other factors as well. “Individuals who drink alcohol rapidly, or without food, or without diluting it with nonalcoholic beverages, are more prone to developing a hangover. Mixing different alcoholic drinks can also cause a hangover. Additionally, smoking, loud music, flashing lights and decreased quality and quantity of sleep can exacerbate hangover headaches.”

“Approximately 75 percent of those who drink alcohol to intoxication will experience a hangover. Consumption of relatively large amounts of alcohol leads to more severe symptoms, which include headache, nausea, vomiting, thirst and dryness of mouth, tremors, dizziness, fatigue and muscle cramps.” And of course, there is often “an accompanying slump in occupational, cognitive or visual-spatial skills.” Certain symptoms that might go unnoticed include changes in blood pressure and rate of heartbeat.

The Bible warns against consuming the wine that alters the senses. In fact, the Bible says don’t even look at the wine that moves by itself. That would cover sizzling or sparkling wines. (Read Proverbs 23:31 and vss. 29-35.) However, the Bible recommends the wine that we call grape juice for an upset stomach. (Read 1 Timothy 5:23.) Grape juice is alkaline, like any other antacid, says Pastor Flemons. For those who want to see it differently, he says, “Stop reading the Bible with your own urges.”

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 24:3, 4  Thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: but thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 57.)

2 Corinthians 5:19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 53.)

Worship: Birthday of the Church / Wellness: Don’t Eat Too Much Cake

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “God spoke His law from Sinai on the fiftieth day from the ‘morrow after’ Israel ate the first Passover, Lev. 23:15,16, when they were delivered from Egypt. The day was then named Pentecost, a word meaning fiftieth. This first Pentecost was the birthday of the Hebrew church.”

Similarly, Pastor Flemons in marking his 51st birthday, said that he wants to honor God more now than in his first fifty years. He says, “God gave wonderful principles by which we can live.” He read Acts 2, that describes the day of Pentecost in which God’s people were filled with the Spirit. He also read Exodus 31:3, and shared his personal prayer, which is to be “filled” “with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.” Let’s give our minds to God, he says, that we may be in harmony with His will for our lives. Also “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord” (Acts 3:19).

[For additional details, please read Exodus 31:3; Acts 2; and “The First Pentecost The Birthday of the Hebrew Church” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 202 original. PTG 275 latest edition. PTG 153 online.) Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 268, “Holy Spirit, Light Divine.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, mentioned how it is that often on one’s birthday, too much cake gets eaten during the course of too much celebration. The excess celebration then leads to some kind of suffering soon afterward.

His message was simple and to the point, “Don’t eat too much cake!” In other words, practice self-control. Don’t eat anything that is harmful. And only eat in moderation those things that are healthy. Being that it was his birthday, Pastor Flemons determined to practice what he preaches.

(For further details, please listen to the recording.)

Words of Encouragement

Hebrews 11:17-19  By faith Abraham when he was tried, offered up Isaac; and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, … accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 56.)
