Worship: Christ’s Divinity Clothed in Humanity / Wellness: Meals b4 Pills: Caffeine, Chocolate Lead to Hypertension

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Christ has forever clothed His divinity in humanity. He lay aside divinity to come to live in this world. Although we cannot fully understand it or explain it, says Pastor Flemons, Jesus made Himself dependent upon divine power as we must. Jesus bound Himself by a pledge that He must have no quality nor exercise any power, except that which is also available to humanity. Jesus had to depend upon the power of the Holy Spirit, just as humanity must in order to live the life of Christ and do the works of Christ for the saving of humanity.

“He [Christ] saw the power—the deceptive power—of Satan upon human minds, and He engaged [bound Himself by a pledge] to come to this earth. He lays aside the robes of His royalty, He lays off His royal crown, He lays off His high command, He steps down from the throne of His glory as High Commander in all heaven, and clothes His divinity with humanity, that humanity might touch humanity. That is what He came here for. He came right down to our earth to take upon Himself the nature of man, to pass through all the trials, all the afflictions and temptations wherewith man should be beset, and here He wrestled with these temptations, passing over the ground where Adam fell, that He might redeem the disgraceful failure and fall of Adam. {1MCP 184.4}

“In human nature, as our substitute, as our surety, He laid hold upon the very hope that it is our privilege to take hold of, and that is infinite power. Through this, our Saviour overcame the temptations of the enemy and obtained the victory. . . ” {1MCP 185.1}

Be sure to understand this: “Christ did not exchange His divinity for humanity, but combined humanity with divinity; and in humanity He lived the law in behalf of the human family. The sins of every one who will receive Christ were set to His account, and He has fully satisfied the justice of God.” {FE 429.2}

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that when the body is stimulated to fight or flee when under attack, such as by a bear, the body releases hormones from the adrenal glands: adrenaline, being one of them. In the process, the blood vessels become constricted. The heart rate is increased. Thus, blood pressure is increased.

Similarly, your diet can put your body in a sustained fight-or-flight crisis. When you eat products, like chocolate, or drink liquids, like caffeine, certain hormones in the body are secreted that constrict the blood vessels and raise the heart rate to increase blood flow that has become hindered. In this way, blood pressure is increased. When sustained, this leads to hypertension.

Try ginseng, says Pastor Flemons. Ginseng is a much better boost than caffeine, without the negative side effects of caffeine.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 18:19  For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 49.)

Psalm 103:13, 14  Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 45.)
