Worship: The Humanity of Christ / Wellness: Control Your Circumstances

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The Holy Spirit series ended with the humanity of Christ and how He relied on the Holy Spirit to live a sinless life. Although we cannot fully explain Christ, there are some things that we do know about Him. We know that Christ depended on the Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 4:15 and 2:14-18 tell us that Christ was touched with our infirmities. He was tempted in all points as is any human being. Even more than that, Christ had to suppress divinity. He had to resist using any power that was not available to us. “He had to pray. He had to agonize,” says Pastor Flemons. No, we can’t fully explain it, he says. But Jesus clothed His divinity with humanity. He was not any less human, and yet He did no sin. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can do the same.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need,” (Hebrews 4:16).

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, spoke from his heart about how people tend to go with the flow of the day at the risk of poor health. Too often people don’t take time to cook. They don’t even take the time to eat. “Stop letting circumstances control you,” he says. “Control your circumstances.” You cannot always meet the demands of everyone. Don’t always be too busy to take care of yourself. Learn to say No.

Then take the time and plan ahead to stay healthy or get healthy. For instance, if you know that you cannot go out for a walk, don’t just give up and sit down. Walk inside of your home. Why not walk in place near a window where you can get the benefit of fresh air?

Also, if you know you are traveling or on the go, include in your plans ways you can practice the REFRESHING lifestyle. You might have to take along a cooler or a juicer or a crockpot. You might have to take along some special food products not easily found in stores. If you don’t do it for yourself, who will?

The first duty to God and to man is self-development, says Pastor Flemons, who shared this reading:

“Our first duty toward God and our fellow-beings is that of self-development. Every faculty with which the Creator has endowed us should be cultivated to the highest degree of perfection, that we may be able to do the greatest amount of good of which we are capable. Hence that time is spent to good account which is used in the establishment and preservation of physical and mental health. We cannot afford to dwarf or cripple any function of body or mind. As surely as we do this, we must suffer the consequences.” {CTBH 41.2}
