Worship: A Call to Medical Evangelism / Wellness: “Most medicinal drugs are not medicinal!”

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
The call that Jesus gave to his disciples in Luke 9:1, extends to all believers down to the end of time, says Pastor Flemons. It is God’s chosen method of saving souls. Jesus gave the gospel. It is the power of salvation, according to Romans 1:16. Still, preaching the gospel is not proof that the preacher will be saved. Jesus also gave authority over all devils. This is a promise of victory over all sin, says Pastor Flemons. Specifically, Luke 9:1 says, “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.”

Curing disease involves helping the body restore itself. But it also involves teaching proper health principles and promoting a healthy lifestyle. And it all begins with cleansing the body of toxins. Pastor Flemons challenged everyone to look up “Christ’s remedies cleanse the system” in the writings of Ellen G. White.

She says this about disease and medicine: “A practice that is laying the foundation of a vast amount of disease and of even more serious evils is the free use of poisonous drugs. When attacked by disease, many will not take the trouble to search out the cause of their illness. Their chief anxiety is to rid themselves of pain and inconvenience. So they resort to patent nostrums, of whose real properties they know little, or they apply to a physician for some remedy to counteract the result of their misdoing, but with no thought of making a change in their unhealthful habits. If immediate benefit is not realized, another medicine is tried, and then another. Thus the evil continues.” {MH 126.2}

She concludes, “The only hope of better things is in the education of the people in right principles. Let physicians teach the people that restorative power is not in drugs, but in nature. Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health. In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.” {MH 127.1}

Medical missionary work was given to support the ministry for salvation. It was never meant to be a stand-alone, get-rich profession.

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says “Most medicinal drugs are not medicinal!”

His statement is based, in part, on one of Ellen White’s statements in her book Ministry of Healing. She says, “People need to be taught that drugs do not cure disease. It is true that they sometimes afford present relief, and the patient appears to recover as the result of their use; this is because nature has sufficient vital force to expel the poison and to correct the conditions that caused the disease. Health is recovered in spite of the drug. But in most cases the drug only changes the form and location of the disease. Often the effect of the poison seems to be overcome for a time, but the results remain in the system and work great harm at some later period.” {MH 126.3}

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria shared several passages from the book The Power of Prayer, a collection of Ellen G. White writings on prayer, chapter 52, “Work and Pray,” page 103. The first three quotes she read included these statements, also found in another book: 1.”I saw that it was impossible to have the affections and interests engrossed in worldly cares, to be increasing earthly possessions, and yet be in a waiting, watching position, as our Saviour has commanded.” 1. “Watch, brethren, the first dimming of your light, the first neglect of prayer, the first symptom of spiritual slumber.”—(Testimonies for the Church 4:124)  {Pr 24.5} 3. “Watch, lest evil passions should overcome you, instead of your subduing them.”

TORSOE announced a variety of online classes to learn biblical wellness for medical missionary work. Some of the classes will be free. Other classes will bear a reasonable cost. These classes will be cover spiritual, mental and physical health.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today Listener 8537, Pastor Flemons, who asks that we pray for TORSOE, particularly as property is located and online classes begin in the very near future.

Remember to pray for a 21-year-old widow (Onelia of Trinidad) whose husband was witness to a murder case, but was gunned down with 22 bullets before he could testify. Left is his young family, including an unborn child, who is now struggling in so many ways, as they witnessed his murder. Prayers and financial offerings are welcome. Send contributions to this ministry and mark it for Onelia. The final day to contribute is July 5.

Pray for the unspoken prayer requests of each heart.
