Worship: A Call to Medical Evangelism, Pt 2 / Wellness: 4 Steps to Overcome Disease

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
“Generally speaking,” says Pastor Flemons, people are not led to God as a result of the medical practice known today. Medical evangelism, however, does.

The call that Jesus gave to his disciples in Luke 9:1, extends to all believers down to the end of time. It says, “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.” This is God’s chosen method of saving souls. Every believer is to be a medical missionary.

“Medical missionary work brings to humanity the gospel of release from suffering. It is the pioneer work of the gospel. It is the gospel practiced, the compassion of Christ revealed. Of this work there is great need, and the world is open for it. . . .—Medical Ministry, 239. {CME 7.4}

“Medical missionary work is the right hand of the gospel. It is necessary to the advancement of the cause of God. As through it men and women are led to see the importance of right habits of living, the saving power of the truth will be made known. Every city is to be entered by workers trained to do medical missionary work. As the right hand of the third angel’s message, God’s methods of treating disease will open doors for the entrance of present truth.”—Testimonies for the Church 7:59. {CME 8.4}

“The principles of health reform are found in the Word of God. The gospel of health is to be firmly linked with the ministry of the Word. It is the Lord’s design that the restoring influence of health reform shall be a part of the last great efforts to proclaim the gospel message.—Medical Ministry, 259. {CME 8.2}

As a means of overcoming prejudice and gaining access to minds, medical missionary work must be done, not in one or two places only, but in many places where the truth has not yet been proclaimed. We are to work as gospel medical missionaries, to heal the sin-sick souls by giving them the message of salvation. This work will break down prejudice as nothing else can.—Testimonies for the Church 9:211. {CME 8.3}

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that there are four steps to overcoming disease: 1. Determine the cause. 2. Change unhealthful conditions. 3. Change wrong habits. 4. Then cleanse the body system of toxins. This assists the body in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.

Pastor Flemons says that if there is one paragraph you should meditate on, digest, and commit to memory, it is this one: “The only hope of better things is in the education of the people in right principles. Let physicians teach the people that restorative power is not in drugs, but in nature. Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health. In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.” {MH 127.1}

He added a portion of this quote: “The book Ministry of Healing may do the same work for our sanitariums and health institutions that Christ’s Object Lessons has done for our schools. This book contains the wisdom of the Great Physician.” {9T 71.1}

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria shared several passages from the book The Power of Prayer, a collection of Ellen G. White writings on prayer, Chapter 52, “Watch Therefore,” page 103 and 104. The three quotes she read included these statements, also found in another book: 1. “We should watch and work and pray as though this were the last day that would be granted us.” 2. “Go forth in humble faith, and the Lord will go with you.” 3. “Watch against the stealthy approach of the enemy, watch against old habits and natural inclinations, lest they assert themselves; force them back, and watch.” Also read Mark 13:35-37.

TORSOE announced a variety of online classes to learn biblical wellness for medical missionary work. Some of the classes will be free. Other classes will bear a reasonable cost. These classes will be cover spiritual, mental and physical health.
