Worship: When Preachers Are Scared of the People, Pt 2 / Wellness: Benefits of Onions

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
We are not going to heaven, unless we are just like God, says Pastor Flemons. “We need to see how important it is to live for Jesus, to tell the truth, to say it in the right spirit–humbly–and to make sure that our characters are in line with the character of the true Shepherd.”

“When we don’t tell the people the truth, then we leave them open to hear all kinds of things, from all kinds of sources,” says Pastor Flemons. Christianity, he says, is the only religion that uses one book but has hundreds and maybe “thousands of different sects, or denominations, or belief systems.” He said that this would not be so with the assembly manual of an automobile. He shared his imagination of what would be the result. The bottom line is that you would not drive that kind of car.

“We are a mess,” he says. The problem is the thirst for popularity. “It is better to tell the truth, to live the truth in an unpopular time, than to find out too late that fame, popularity, money, approval–all those things–will cause you to lose your soul.” Thank God that He is still in control.

[For further details, read Ezekiel 34:6-16; Psalm 48:11; Isaiah 51:16; Revelation 18:8, 9; Psalm 26:2-4Proverbs 2:1-5John 17:3. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 317, “Lead Me to Calvary.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that you should eat more onions. He shared a health.news article about the benefits of onions. It refers to onions as superfoods that are “rich” in powerful antioxidants. They help fight off cancer, promote bone health, and lower cholesterol levels. They even support gut health and enhance the benefits of tomatoes.

According to the article, you need to peel as little of the outer edible layer as possible; it contains “the highest levels of flavonoids.” It also said that you need to cook the onions in a certain way to garner the “maximum health benefits.” “Whether it’s white, yellow, red or purple, and green – all onion varieties are shown to be a healthy addition to your diet.”

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with Psalm 28:7, 8: “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.”

She also shared three quotes from the book Power of Prayer, a collection of quotes on prayer by Ellen G. White, Chapter 17, “The Strength of Prayer.”

1. “The servants of Christ were to prepare no set speech to present when brought to trial. Their preparation was to be made day by day in treasuring up the precious truths of God’s word, and through prayer strengthening their faith. When they were brought into trial, the Holy Spirit would bring to their remembrance the very truths that would be needed.” {Pr 275.1}

2. “A daily, earnest striving to know God, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent, would bring power and efficiency to the soul. The knowledge obtained by diligent searching of the Scriptures would be flashed into the memory at the right time. But if any had neglected to acquaint themselves with the words of Christ, if they had never tested the power of His grace in trial, they could not expect that the Holy Spirit would bring His words to their remembrance. They were to serve God daily with undivided affection, and then trust Him.”—(The Desire of Ages, 355.) {Pr 275.2}

3. “Jesus Himself, while He dwelt among men, was often in prayer. Our Saviour identified Himself with our needs and weakness, in that He became a suppliant, a petitioner, seeking from His Father fresh supplies of strength, that He might come forth braced for duty and trial. He is our example in all things. He is a brother in our infirmities, ‘in all points tempted like as we are;’ but as the sinless one His nature recoiled from evil; He endured struggles and torture of soul in a world of sin. His humanity made prayer a necessity and a privilege. He found comfort and joy in communion with His Father. And if the Saviour of men, the Son of God, felt the need of prayer, how much more should feeble, sinful mortals feel the necessity of fervent, constant prayer.”  {SC 93.4}

Pastor Flemons responded to questions: How often should you do an enema? Why can’t a person hold on to a retention enema?

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today Listener 4906, who asks that we pray for her health and that she has a closer walk with God. Also pray for her family and the families of those who lost loved ones.

Please pray for 21-year-old Ornelia (correct spelling) and her two boys (not one), who witnessed the murder of husband and father, who himself was to have testified in court as a witness to a murder in Trinidad. Pastor and Sis. Maria spoke with her yesterday. The collected funds will be sent to her today. Please keep them in prayer.

Please pray for TORSOE’s mission and plans.

Pray for the unspoken prayer requests of each heart.

Words of Encouragement

Ecclesiastes 2:11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. (Also read Conflict and Courage for July 9, CC 196.)
