Worship: Jacob, One of the Few / Wellness: Challenge, Rely on God!

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
God has a way that His will is to be performed. Jacob’s story teaches the world the importance of allowing God’s will to be done His way in our lives. Jacob’s story teaches us that we should never try to do God’s will our way. Jacob practiced deception to force God’s plan for his life and lost his family and his home and nearly his faith. “When we practice deception, deception will be practiced upon us,” says Pastor Flemons.

Thankfully, Jacob’s story also teaches us that God is limitless, and we must trust Him no matter what things look like. That is why He can only be referred to as the I AM. Any word that follows would limit God to the value of that one word.

Without Jacob’s experience, we would not know the power of faith and the intimate love of Jesus. Jacob’s experience reveals that God is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Never have so many owed so much to so few. That is why Jacob is one of the few.

[For further details, read Hebrews 11:6; Ellen G. White’s A Call to Medical Evangelism and Health EducationCME 13; Genesis 28:11-16; Genesis 32:24-30. Also, please listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 627, “Jacob’s Ladder.”

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, issued his latest challenge: Rely on God. Relying on God, he says, provides “divine stress relief.” When you have divine stress relief and relief from anxiety and depression, you have “a powerful remedy against disease.” “Stress,” he says, “causes every major disease.”

He demonstrated how stress can cause hormones to go awry and become deadly. Using 1 Samuel 4:18-22, he explained how a woman went into early labor and died. She had just learned of the deaths of her husband and father-in-law and the loss of the sacred Ark of the Covenant in battle. Such stress-induced hormonal imbalance is at the root of breast cancer and prostate cancer, says Pastor Flemons. When stress is lowered, you can avoid inducing hormones dangerous levels.

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with several passages from the book Power of Prayer, a collection of comments on prayer by Ellen G. White, Chapter 49, “Pray Wholeheartedly,” p 99.

God Will Not Turn Us Away Empty—When temptations and trials rush in upon us, let us go to God and agonize with Him in prayer. He will not turn us away empty, but will give us grace and strength to overcome, and to break the power of the enemy.”—(Early Writings, 46.) {Pr 80.3}

“The greatest victories to the church of Christ or to the individual Christian, are not those that are gained by talent or education, by wealth, or the favor of men. They are those victories that are gained in the audience chamber with God, when earnest, agonizing faith lays hold upon the mighty arm of power. {Pr 87.2}

“The season of distress and anguish before us will require a faith that can endure weariness, delay, and hunger—a faith that will not faint though severely tried. . . .  Those who are unwilling to deny self, to agonize before God, to pray long and earnestly for His blessing, will not obtain it. . . . .—(The Great Controversy, 621.) {Pr 276.1}

Read Psalm 34:15, 17: “The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.”. . . “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”

Pastor Flemons responded to questions about a cure for sciatic nerve pain and severe varicose veins.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today Listener 3474, who made no special request.

Sis. Odessa asks that we pray for the Griffin family and especially for her ex-husband, who needs spiritual blessings and who has lost a loved one. Also pray for her friend who is suffering from severe varicose veins.

Please pray for TORSOE’s mission and plans.

Pray for the unspoken prayer requests of each heart.
