Worship: For Heaven’s Sake Samson’s life of selfish living is world renowned. What he wanted was primarily his only priority. He repeatedly squandered God’s blessings to him.
“Just as he was entering upon manhood, the time when he must execute his divine mission—the time above all others when he should have been true to God—Samson connected himself with the enemies of Israel. He did not ask whether he could better glorify God when united with the object of his choice, or whether he was placing himself in a position where he could not fulfill the purpose to be accomplished by his life. To all who seek first to honor Him, God has promised wisdom; but there is no promise to those who are bent upon self-pleasing.” {PP 563.1}
“God’s promise that through Samson He would ‘begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines’ was fulfilled; but how dark and terrible the record of that life which might have been a praise to God and a glory to the nation! Had Samson been true to his divine calling, the purpose of God could have been accomplished in his honor and exaltation. But he yielded to temptation and proved untrue to his trust, and his mission was fulfilled in defeat, bondage, and death.” {PP 567.2}
Still, Samson’s last act testifies that, although imprisoned, anyone who truly repents and in sincerity yields him- or herself for God’s use in total devotion can be accepted of God. Samson’s story testifies to the willingness of God to save humanity to the uttermost and is why Samson is one of the few to whom so many owe so much.

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with two passages of reading from the book Power of Prayer, a collection of statements on prayer by Ellen G. White, particularly from the section titled “The Sincere Prayer,” Chapter 20. [Other sources of the same or very similar quotes are used below.]
“Those who have a natural love for the world and have been remiss in their duty can see their own faults specified in the cases of others who have been reproved. God designs to test the faith of all who claim to be followers of Christ. He will test the sincerity of the prayers of all those who claim to earnestly desire to know their duty. He will make duty plain. He will give all an ample opportunity to develop what is in their hearts. The conflict will be close between self and the grace of God. Self will strive for the mastery and will be opposed to the work of bringing the life and thoughts, the will and affections, into subjection to the will of Christ. Self-denial and the cross stand all along in the pathway to eternal life, and, because of this, ‘few there be that find it.’” {2T 687.3}
“The sincerity of your prayers will be proved by the vigor of the effort you make to obey all of God’s commandments. You may move intelligently, and at every step renounce evil habits and associations, believing that the Lord will renovate your heart by the power of his Spirit. {YI August 11, 1892, par. 4}
Pastor Flemons will be speaking this Sabbath (Saturday) at the Walnut Church of SDA, 8501 Hwy 25, Marshall, NC 28753.

Words of Encouragement
James 5:17, 18 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. (Also read 1 Kings 18:41-46 and Conflict and Courage for July 25, CC 212.)
Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. (Also read With God at Dawn for July 25, WGD 208.)
