Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  If you have no interest in being like Jesus or serving the LORD, but you just want to be well, that just might be why you aren’t getting well. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case with Jairus or the woman with the twelve-yearlong issue of blood disorder. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, continued discussing the REFRESHING Way lifestyle and its therapeutic value in protecting the endocrine system. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement

Zechariah 8:13  And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall b a blessing; fear not, but let your hands be strong.

Lamentations 3:25-26  The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

Matthew 8:13  And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

For Heaven’s Sake…

Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue, found Jesus in the house of Levi-Matthew, where Jesus met other publicans at the feast. The haughty rabbi lost his pride and threw himself at the feet of Jesus and pleaded for the life of his little daughter. She was nearly dead. Jesus was his only hope. He entreated Jesus to lay hands on her that she might live.

The compliance of Jesus with the plea of the haughty rabbi teaches that a Christian must help where there is a need, even when the needy person has mistreated you in the past, says Pastor Flemons. He believes that this rabbi was very likely one of those who openly professed Christ after resurrection of Jesus. That is because not only did Jesus heal his daughter but He raised her from the dead. She died before they got to the house, even though it was not far away. Jesus had stopped here and there and ministered to those who personally approached Him.

One poor woman was in desperate need. She had gone to the seaside and then to Levi-Matthew’s home to meet Him. But the crowds kept her from getting close to Jesus. Now she had no thoughts of having a personal meeting with Jesus. She was far beyond the point of stopping His advance to the home of Jairus. She was fearful of losing the one chance of getting close enough to just touch the hem of His garment. She believed that would be enough to make her whole.

For twelve long and miserable years, she had visited physicians and tried remedies. Once all of her means were spent, then she was finally told that her disease was incurable. Healing for her seemed hopeless. But then she heard about Jesus and all the cures that He had performed. She believed He was her only hope.

“As He was passing, she reached forward, and succeeded in barely touching the border of His garment. But in that moment she knew that she was healed. In that one touch was concentrated the faith of her life, and instantly her pain and feebleness gave place to the vigor of perfect health. DA 343.5

“With a grateful heart she then tried to withdraw from the crowd; but suddenly Jesus stopped, and the people halted with Him. He turned, and looking about asked in a voice distinctly heard above the confusion of the multitude, ‘Who touched Me?’ The people answered this query with a look of amazement. Jostled upon all sides, and rudely pressed hither and thither, as He was, it seemed a strange inquiry. DA 344.1

“Peter, ever ready to speak, said, ‘Master, the multitude throng Thee and press Thee, and sayest Thou, Who touched Me?’ Jesus answered, ‘Somebody hath touched Me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of Me.’ The Saviour could distinguish the touch of faith from the casual contact of the careless throng. Such trust should not be passed without comment. He would speak to the humble woman words of comfort that would be to her a wellspring of joy,–words that would be a blessing to His followers to the close of time. DA 344.2

“Looking toward the woman, Jesus insisted on knowing who had touched Him. Finding concealment vain, she came forward tremblingly, and cast herself at His feet. With grateful tears she told the story of her suffering, and how she had found relief. Jesus gently said, ‘Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.’ He gave no opportunity for superstition to claim healing virtue for the mere act of touching His garments. It was not through the outward contact with Him, but through the faith which took hold on His divine power, that the cure was wrought. DA 344.3

“The wondering crowd that pressed close about Christ realized no accession of vital power. But when the suffering woman put forth her hand to touch Him, believing that she would be made whole, she felt the healing virtue. So in spiritual things. To talk of religion in a casual way, to pray without soul hunger and living faith, avails nothing. A nominal faith in Christ, which accepts Him merely as the Saviour of the world, can never bring healing to the soul. The faith that is unto salvation is not a mere intellectual assent to the truth. He who waits for entire knowledge before he will exercise faith, cannot receive blessing from God. It is not enough to believe about Christ; we must believe in Him. The only faith that will benefit us is that which embraces Him as a personal Saviour; which appropriates His merits to ourselves. Many hold faith as an opinion. Saving faith is a transaction by which those who receive Christ join themselves in covenant relation with God. Genuine faith is life. A living faith means an increase of vigor, a confiding trust, by which the soul becomes a conquering power. DA 347.1

“After healing the woman, Jesus desired her to acknowledge the blessing she had received. The gifts which the gospel offers are not to be secured by stealth or enjoyed in secret. So the Lord calls upon us for confession of His goodness. ‘Ye are My witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God.’ Isa. 43:12.” DA 347.2

(This study is based on Matthew 9:18-26; Mark 5:21-43; Luke 8:40-56; and chapter 36, “The Touch of Faith” in The Desire of Ages (DA), by Ellen G. White.)

For Health’s Sake. . .

Fresh air and rest enable the endocrine system to function as normal. Fresh air invigorates every organ in the endocrine system. Rest prevents the system from becoming overtaxed and exhausted.

Otherwise, toxins invade the system and wreak havoc. The thyroid succumbs to autoimmune diseases, like Hoshimoto’s thyroiditis, a hypothyroid disease, or Graves’ disease, a hyperthyroid disorder. The adrenals remain in a stressed state of fight or flight. Unprocessed sugar remains in the system, because the pancreas cannot function properly. And the parathyroid glands can’t properly adjust the calcium in the blood to alkalinize the system. They have become overworked to maintain the level of calcium necessary.

Pastor Flemons says this is why PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) is so common in the military and continues after release. Rest is that important. And rest is more beneficial with fresh air.

“Do whatever you have to do to stay safe,” says Pastor Flemons. “Just leave the windows open or at least cracked! And try to get to bed by 9:30 p.m.”
