For Heaven’s Sake…
Pastor Flemons explained in detail Romans 7:14-25. It is essential to listen to the recording.
It is also essential to understand that the struggle Paul describes in Romans 7:14-24 is the struggle of an unconverted heart. “The struggle is an admission that the law is good,” says Pastor Flemons. It’s just that the standard is so high, I cannot reach it, except only under the power of the Holy Spirit.
It is very much like the struggle of an addict. The addict realizes his actions has destroyed the family and is destroying his or her very life. And he hates that. But he cannot stop the addiction. He is too weak and is quickly overpowered by the sinful passion.
Too frequently, however, this passage of Scripture (Romans 7:14-24) is used to excuse the struggle and giving in to the sin, as though the power of God is insufficient and the power of sin is all-powerful. The problem here is that theologians often preach that this law of serving God with the mind and serving the law of sin with the flesh happens at the same time.
Paul debunks that theory in his discourse to the Galatians (5:16,17):
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
The key to victory over sin is walking in the power of the Holy Spirit. The converted heart daily surrenders to the power of God. Daily, under the power of the Holy Spirit, the converted heart searches the Scriptures and continues in prayer for the power to obey.
For Health’s Sake…
Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness and naturopathy, explains that eating between meals interrupts the digestive process of the body and causes the body to develop acid. An acidic internal environment promotes disease.
“Many turn from light and knowledge, and sacrifice principle to taste. They eat when the system needs no food, and at irregular intervals, because they have no moral stamina to resist inclination. As the result, the abused stomach rebels, and suffering follows. Regularity in eating is very important for health of body and serenity of mind. Never should a morsel of food pass the lips between meals. {CTBH 50.1}” (Ellen G. White, Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, p. 50.1)
“After the regular meal is eaten, the stomach should be allowed to rest for five hours. Not a particle of food should be introduced into the stomach till the next meal. In this interval the stomach will perform its work, and will then be in a condition to receive more food. {CCh 223.10}
“Regularity in eating should be carefully observed. Nothing should be eaten between meals, no confectionery, nuts, fruits, or food of any kind. Irregularities in eating destroy the healthful tone of the digestive organs, to the detriment of health and cheerfulness. And when the children come to the table, they do not relish wholesome food; their appetites crave that which is hurtful for them.{CCh 223.11}” (Ellen G. White, Counsels for the Church, pp. 223. 10 and 223.11)
The importance of regularity in the time for eating and sleeping should not be overlooked. Since the work of building up the body takes place during the hours of rest, it is essential, especially in youth, that sleep should be regular and abundant.{CG 363.2} (Ellen G. White, Child Guidance, p. 363.2)
