Words of Encouragement

Romans 8:24, 25  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Romans 15:4  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

For Heaven’s Sake…

“In Daniel 7 the lion with eagles’ wings represented the kingdom of Babylon. Lions were the nation’s symbol, as seen in Babylonian art. The eagle’s wings show the speed, power, and fury of their [Babylonian] victories. One of their greatest kings was King Nebuchadnezzar, mentioned in Daniel, Chapter 2, as the head of gold. ”

“Babylon . . . was overcome by the ‘United Nations’ of Medo-Persia, represented by the bear raised up on one side with three ribs in its mouth. In the kingdom of Medo-Persia, the Persians were the dominant figure. Thus, we see the bear was raised up on one side. The three ribs in its mouth represent the three large empires that Medo-Persia conquered: namely, Babylon, Libya and Egypt. ”

“The next beast that arose was the fierce leopard with four heads and four wings. Remember, wings suggest speed in conquest. . . . This four-headed, four-winged leopard represented none other than Alexander the Great, the emperor of Greece. An alcoholic known for his military genius, Alexander the Great died at the young age of thirty-two. The kingdom of Greece was then ruled by his four generals: Cassander, Lysimachus, Ptolemy, and Seleucus. This explains the four heads with four wings.”

The “exceedingly dreadful” fourth beast with the iron teeth and “nails of brass, which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet” was obviously Rome, represented by the legs of iron in Daniel 2. “The powerful and ruthless Roman empire was diverse from all three beasts before it. Rome started off as a pagan dominion and ended up as a nominal ‘Christian’ kingdom. As the Roman empire was crumbling, there were ten warring tribes in its realm. These are represented by the ten horns [or kings]. Most of these tribes later became the Protestant nations of Europe. Prophecy foretold the elimination of three of the tribes. These were the three horns plucked up by the roots.”

Seven of the ten tribes still exist today. The world recognizes them by another name. The Alemanni are known as Germany. The Visigoths became Spain. The Franks became France. The Anglo-Saxons became England. The Burgundians became Switzerland. The Suevi became Portugal. The Lombards became Italy. The Ostrogoths, Vandals, and Heruli were the three tribes that were exterminated according to the dream in that three horns were uprooted by the little horn. The little horn, rather the Catholic Church, which came into power as pagan Rome crumbled, had been resisted by the three tribes. “They failed to halt the rise of the papal power, and their remnants were finally driven from Rome.”

The little horn power would “speak great words against the most High,” would “wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws.” All this would “be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time” [or 1260 years]. For 1260 years, ending in 1798, the Roman Catholic Church reigned in the stated manner. It is history that during this period referred to as the Dark Ages, dissenters were persecuted and the day of worship was claimed to be Sunday, not the Bible Sabbath of the fourth commandment: from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday.

“To think to change ‘times’ also refers to the Catholic Church employing its monks to rewrite history in the church’s favor. Many historical records have been changed so that the Catholic Church cannot be as easily identified from Bible prophecy. The works of the Jesuit monk, Fransisco Ribera, are an example of this. All Protestant reformers believed that the little horn of Daniel 7 represented the Papacy. Most of their successors in Protestantism today do not hold the historical view. This is due in part to the alteration of history in order to favor the church and the writings of Ribera, who introduced the ‘futurists’ concept of the antichrist power.”
