Worship: How to Be Strong in the Lord / Wellness: The REFRESHING Way to Wellness

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “If you struggle with actually changing for the better, but just don’t know how, then this is for you,” says Pastor Flemons.

“Many are inquiring, ‘How am I to make the surrender of myself to God?’ You desire to give yourself to Him, but you are weak in moral power, in slavery to doubt, and controlled by the habits of your life of sin. Your promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand. You cannot control your thoughts, your impulses, your affections. The knowledge of your broken promises and forfeited pledges weakens your confidence in your own sincerity, and causes you to feel that God cannot accept you; but you need not despair. What you need to understand is the true force of the will. This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of decision, or of choice. Everything depends on the right action of the will. The power of choice God has given to men; it is theirs to exercise. You cannot change your heart, you cannot of yourself give to God its affections; but you can choose to serve Him. You can give Him your will; He will then work in you to will and to do according to His good pleasure. Thus your whole nature will be brought under the control of the Spirit of Christ; your affections will be centered upon Him, your thoughts will be in harmony with Him. {SC 47.1}

“Desires for goodness and holiness are right as far as they go; but if you stop here, they will avail nothing. Many will be lost while hoping and desiring to be Christians. They do not come to the point of yielding the will to God. They do not now choose to be Christians. {SC 47.2}

“Through the right exercise of the will, an entire change may be made in your life. By yielding up your will to Christ, you ally yourself with the power that is above all principalities and powers. You will have strength from above to hold you steadfast, and thus through constant surrender to God you will be enabled to live the new life, even the life of faith.” {SC 48.1}

Change, therefore, comes by continual choice. Our choices are simple: between obeying God or Satan. The rest is the same. It is a continual choice. “We are just vessels,” says Pastor Flemons.

“There is a science to victory,” says Pastor Flemons. We must ask, sometimes even for the desire, to do His will. We choose. God empowers. We choose to use the power. He does the work within us. Our power submitted to and in cooperation with God’s power gains us the victory.

“Every soul that refuses to give himself to God is under the control of another power. He is not his own. He may talk of freedom, but he is in the most abject slavery. He is not allowed to see the beauty of truth, for his mind is under the control of Satan. While he flatters himself that he is following the dictates of his own judgment, he obeys the will of the prince of darkness. Christ came to break the shackles of sin-slavery from the soul. ‘If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.’ ‘The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus’ sets us ‘free from the law of sin and death.’ Romans 8:2. {DA 466.3}

“In the work of redemption there is no compulsion. No external force is employed. Under the influence of the Spirit of God, man is left free to choose whom he will serve. In the change that takes place when the soul surrenders to Christ, there is the highest sense of freedom. The expulsion of sin is the act of the soul itself. [Emphasis supplied] True, we have no power to free ourselves from Satan’s control; but when we desire to be set free from sin, and in our great need cry out for a power out of and above ourselves, the powers of the soul are imbued with the divine energy of the Holy Spirit, and they obey the dictates of the will in fulfilling the will of God.” {DA 466.4}

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that we need to be reminded that there is an entire lifestyle upon which our health depends. Using James 2:10, Pastor Flemons discussed applying the principle to the 10-point REFRESHING lifestyle plan for health and healing. We need to keep them all in order to be healthy, he says. A violation of any one of the points will result in sickness and disease.

Rely on God. It removes stress off your shoulders and puts them on the broad shoulders of God.

Eat healthy. Make your diet totally plant-based: nuts, grains, fruits, and vegetables. Eat lots of raw foods or as close as possible to their natural state, and avoid refined foods.

Fresh air. Negatively charged ions exist in fresh air, which positively affects the body. Fresh air is invigorating and is essential, even during the night season.

Rest. Our bodies need recharging every evening. When we habitually go to bed on time (by 9:30) God is able to more efficiently and effectively keep our bodies healthy. Also, as the body rest, it heals.

Exercise. The best exercise is a brisk walk. And yes, says Pastor Flemons, a swim is good, as it works the same muscles used in walking.

Self-control. Eliminate everything harmful to you and do only in moderation those things that are good for you.

H2O – drink water. Water is needed to flush out toxins from the body. Know your quota and get it in between meals. Daily drink in ounces your body’s weight divided in half. It relieves the burden on your kidneys.

In the sun. You need about 20 minutes of sunlight daily for the body to produce vitamin D, which helps keep your hormones in balance.

Never give up. One treatment may not be enough. You must persevere.

Give to others. In giving, you can receive blessings beyond imagination.
