For Heaven’s Sake…
Circumstances could present the opportunity to purchase or be given a Bentley or Rolls Royce. Chances are, however, you will not receive that Bentley or that Rolls simply by firmly believing that God wants you to have it. Presumption is not faith.
“Faith is in no sense allied to presumption. Only he who has true faith is secure against presumption. For presumption is Satan’s counterfeit of faith. Faith claims God’s promises, and brings forth fruit in obedience. Presumption also claims the promises, but uses them as Satan did, to excuse transgression. Faith would have led our first parents to trust the love of God, and to obey His commands. Presumption led them to transgress His law, believing that His great love would save them from the consequence of their sin. It is not faith that claims the favor of Heaven without complying with the conditions on which mercy is to be granted. Genuine faith has its foundation in the promises and provisions of the Scriptures.” DA 126.1 (Ellen G. White, Desire of Ages, p. 126.1)
“God didn’t say He was going to give you a Bentley, said Pastor Flemons. … The voice of God is in His word. … But at the same time, …You cannot do away with the personal communion with God that we need to have. … And you cannot have faith without risk.”
Hebrews 11 is filled with examples of true faith. At the risk of Abel’s life, he had the faith to be obedient to God. The same is true with Noah, Abraham, Moses and many others, “of whom the world was not worthy.” They all risked something. “But just because you have faith does not mean bad things won’t happen to you,” says Pastor Flemons. “To have faith means to be full of faith.” You have to have faith that you can trust God’s word.
“Prayer is heaven’s ordained means of success in the conflict with sin and the development of Christian character. The divine influences that come in answer to the prayer of faith will accomplish in the soul of the suppliant all for which he pleads. For the pardon of sin, for the Holy Spirit, for a Christlike temper, for wisdom and strength to do His work, for any gift He has promised, we may ask; and the promise is, ‘Ye shall receive.’AA 564.1
“There are many who, though striving to obey God’s commandments, have little peace or joy. This lack in their experience is the result of a failure to exercise faith. They walk as it were in a salt land, a parched wilderness. They claim little, when they might claim much; for there is no limit to the promises of God. Such ones do not correctly represent the sanctification that comes through obedience to the truth. The Lord would have all His sons and daughters happy, peaceful, and obedient. Through the exercise of faith the believer comes into possession of these blessings. Through faith, every deficiency of character may be supplied, every defilement cleansed, every fault corrected, every excellence developed.” AA 563.2 (Ellen G. White, Acts of the Apostles, p. 563.2 and p. 564.1)
That is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. That is faith.
For Health’s Sake…
When you feel a tickle in the throat, a lack of energy spiraling downward, or that you are coming down with something, and if you don’t do something really fast you will be really sick, do this:
- 1. Fast. Few realize the power of fasting. Skipping even one meal is extremely valuable. The body needs a rest. Resting it allows the immune system to conserve the energy normally used for digestion. It naturally starts cleansing the body of toxins.
2. Increase your water intake during the fast. Drink eight glasses of water all within one hour to an hour and a half. This helps the immune system do its job of flushing out the accumulated toxins.
3. Increase citrus fruit intake in the first meal after fasting. Include the peeling, which has healing properties. The whole fruit (lemon, etc.) may be blended.
4. Take a natural laxative or enema. Cleansing the colon, alone, can reverse a downward spiral.
5. Get more rest. Go to bed earlier than normal. Rest recharges the immune system. Sometimes sleep deprivation has contributed to your downward spiral.
6. Get more exercise in the sun and fresh air. If you’re feeling low on energy, simply take a nice stroll.
7. Take healthy bitter strong herbs, like goldenseal and garlic. These are natural antibiotics.
8. Take a hot bath to sweat out toxins and end with a cool shower or do a contrast shower. Three cycles of hot and cold water constitute a contrast shower: 3 minutes of hot water, then 30 seconds of cold. Repeat this for a total of three hot/cold cycles. If your time is limited, proceed with only 1 minute of hot, then 10 seconds of cold. Repeat the cycle two more times.
