Words of Encouragement

Matthew 8:13  And Jesus said to the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

Psalm 37:3  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

For Heaven’s Sake…

In the days of Queen Esther, a remnant of God’s people remained in Babylon. Now within the realm of the Medes and Persians, the remaining Jews were to face a terrible crisis. They were brought face to face with a death decree. Unbeknownst to the instigator of the decree, the Jews were the people of Queen Esther.

Haman, the instigator, was jealous for worship. The Jew Mordecai, cousin to the queen, had refused to show Haman worshipful reverence. For this, Haman plotted to destroy all Jews throughout the kingdom. The king consented, without knowing the facts or real motive behind Haman’s inducements. The day to destroy all Jews and their property was set.

Queen Esther learned of the crisis and prayed for wisdom. Three days of fasting were immediately set and Queen Esther risked her life in appearing before the king, without his request. Once the king was informed of all the facts, a counter decree was issued. All Jews were permitted to fight for their lives, since the decree could not be reversed. No hurt came to the people of God. He had commissioned angels to protect them, as they stood for their lives.

Mordecai was elevated to Haman’s former position next to King Ahasuerus. This was Xerxes the Great. God’s people became favored at the Medo-Persian court. And Haman was hanged.

“The trying experiences that came to God’s people in the days of Esther were not peculiar to that age alone. The revelator, looking down the ages to the close of time, has declared, ‘The dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.’ Revelation 12:17. Some who today are living on the earth will see these words fulfilled. The same spirit that in ages past led men to persecute the true church, will in the future lead to the pursuance of a similar course toward those who maintain their loyalty to God. Even now preparations are being made for this last great conflict. PK 605.1

“The decree that will finally go forth against the remnant people of God will be very similar to that issued by Ahasuerus against the Jews. Today the enemies of the true church see in the little company keeping the Sabbath commandment, a Mordecai at the gate. The reverence of God’s people for His law is a constant rebuke to those who have cast off the fear of the Lord and are trampling on His Sabbath. PK 605.2

“Satan will arouse indignation against the minority who refuse to accept popular customs and traditions. Men of position and reputation will join with the lawless and the vile to take counsel against the people of God. Wealth, genius, education, will combine to cover them with contempt. Persecuting rulers, ministers, and church members will conspire against them. With voice and pen, by boasts, threats, and ridicule, they will seek to overthrow their faith. By false representations and angry appeals, men will stir up the passions of the people. Not having a ‘Thus saith the Scriptures’ to bring against the advocates of the Bible Sabbath, they will resort to oppressive enactments to supply the lack. To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for Sunday laws. But those who fear God, cannot accept an institution that violates a precept of the Decalogue. On this battlefield will be fought the last great conflict in the controversy between truth and error. And we are not left in doubt as to the issue. Today, as in the days of Esther and Mordecai, the Lord will vindicate His truth and His people.” PK 605.3

It’s all about worship. Even this week, Thursday, President Trump signed an executive order relaxing the penalty against churches involved in political affairs. This sets the stage even more for a national Sunday law as the only day of worship. Sunday is the first day of the week, not the Bible Sabbath, which is the seventh day of the week. We must decide whom we will worship. Only Christ has paid the cruel price for our sins. Only Christ is worthy of our utmost worship. He says, “Hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God” (Ezekiel 20:20).

For Health’s Sake…

The Nazarite, one set apart for God, was distinctive in appearance. He was not allowed to cut his hair, as in the story of Samson. God says He numbers every hair on each head. (Read Matthew 10:30.) As such, every Christian is to show a distinction in dress, health habits, and deportment that honors God. When people see a Christian, they should know that there is something special about this person.

As the hair follicle rises through the tightly packed squamous layer of the skin, the oil gland lubricates the hair follicle. The hair follicle represents the Christian serving God. The oil represents the Holy Spirit, who is poured out upon God’s servants in a marked manner that empowers them for service and righteous living. When the Holy Spirit is at work within the Christian, the influence is clear. The Christian is neither abrasive nor tyrannical. “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit to mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Romans 8:13-14).
