Worship: For Heaven’s Sake When we stop depending on ourselves and wholly depend on God, then mountains of difficulty may disappear. Then He can reveal to us the treasures of darkness, the riches of secret places. There, in Him, is true joy, true success. (Read more below.)
Wellness: For Health’s Sake Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, continued to demonstrate how the skin teaches spiritual principles. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement
1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Isaiah 45:3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
For Heaven’s Sake…
“Throughout the history of God’s people great mountains of difficulty, apparently insurmountable, have loomed up before those who were trying to carry out the purposes of Heaven. Such obstacles are permitted by the Lord as a test of faith. When we are hedged about on every side, this is the time above all others to trust in God and in the power of His Spirit. The exercise of a living faith means an increase of spiritual strength and the development of an unfaltering trust. It is thus that the soul becomes a conquering power. Before the demand of faith, the obstacles placed by Satan across the pathway of the Christian will disappear; for the powers of heaven will come to his aid. “Nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Matthew 17:20. PK 594.3
“The way of the world is to begin with pomp and boasting. God’s way is to make the day of small things the beginning of the glorious triumph of truth and righteousness. Sometimes He trains His workers by bringing to them disappointment and apparent failure. It is His purpose that they shall learn to master difficulties. PK 595.1
“Often men are tempted to falter before the perplexities and obstacles that confront them. But if they will hold the beginning of their confidence steadfast unto the end, God will make the way clear. Success will come to them as they struggle against difficulties. Before the intrepid spirit and unwavering faith of a Zerubbabel, great mountains of difficulty will become a plain; and he whose hands have laid the foundation, even ‘his hands shall also finish it.’ ‘He shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.’ Zechariah 4:9, 7. PK 595.2
“Human power and human might did not establish the church of God, and neither can they destroy it. Not on the rock of human strength [like the Apostle Peter], but on Christ Jesus, the Rock of Ages, was the church founded, ‘and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’ Matthew 16:18. The presence of God gives stability to His cause. ‘Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man,’ is the word that comes to us. Psalm 146:3. ‘In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.’ Isaiah 30:15. God’s glorious work, founded on the eternal principles of right, will never come to nought. It will go on from strength to strength, ‘not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.’ Zechariah 4:6.” PK 595.3
(This study is based on chapter 48, “Not by Might, nor by Power” in Prophets and Kings (PK), by Ellen G. White.)
For Health’s Sake…
Indeed, it is not by human strength alone that anything is done. It is by the power of the divine working through human effort that everything is accomplished, including the expulsion of sin, as demonstrated by the thin layer of the skin, called the epidermis. The comparatively larger layer of skin, the dermis, is situated just beneath the thin epidermis. The dermis appropriately represents divine power. The epidermis has no blood. It has no nerves. The dermis has both: blood and nerves. The hair follicle is rooted in the dermis, at which point is its blood source. There is life. There is power.
Interestingly, the skin teaches that the way to the top involves friction, for it is in the tightly packed squamous layer that skin grows and rises. For the Christian, this represents rubbing shoulders with humanity. That association involves trials and difficulty.
Too often, trials and difficulties between people are based on skin color. The color of the skin is determined in the layer of the thin epidermis, just beneath the surface of the skin, where the skin cells are born, representing the new birth of the Christian. Because of this, we can agree with Pastor Flemons that the difference between black skin and white skin is “not that deep.” Outside of this thin layer, skin color does not exist. From here, the skin cell rises to the top, the surface of the skin. Once there, it is one hundred percent dead. Only then, like the Christian at maturity, is it at the highest height it can reach.
The highest height the Christian can attain is one hundred percent death to self: selfish ways, selfish thinking, selfish everything. It is then that Christ can fully be revealed through the Christian. To fully reflect the image of Christ in man is the goal of Christianity.
