Worship: For Heaven’s Sake After a few special words of comfort to grieving parents, Pastor Flemons showed how the wine of Babylon refers to false doctrine in the church. (Read Isaiah 28:7,9; Jeremiah 6:2; and 51:7.) God designed the church and charged it to be the pillar and ground of truth (1 Timothy 3:15). However, through fornication with the kings of the earth, Babylon further erred when she combined church and state and forced worship (that belonged to God) to herself. Pastor Flemons cautioned against following the path set by Babylon and suggested reading Revelation 14:8-12; 18:1-3; 2 Corinthians 11:2 and Daniel 2 and 3.
Wellness: For Health’s Sake Drink the wine when it is fresh from the cluster; it is pure grape juice and has a blessing in it. (Read Isaiah 65:8.) It has not yet fermented. Pastor Flemons assured us we won’t squeeze a cluster of grapes and immediately get Mad Dog 20/20. Fermented wine sparkles or moves itself (like champagne) and relaxes or removes (as do alcohol and mixed drinks) the natural inhibitions God has placed within us to keep us from sinning against Him and hurting ourselves and others. (Read Proverbs 23:29-33.) Pastor Flemons showed the Hebraic distinction in the use of the term wine in the story of Jacob when he used fermented wine to deceive his father Isaac into giving him the birthright of the firstborn, which included corn and wine (grape juice).
