Worship: For Heaven’s Sake Pastor Flemons explained that “covetousness is an unreasonable desire for something that is not yours.” The Bible includes lust in the term “covetousness” and teaches us that lust is not limited to sexual desire. The tenth commandment says Thou shalt not covet. This is a perfect example of the law pointing out sin. If the law didn’t condemn our unreasonable passion for the things we covet, how would we know? Wellness: For Health’s Sake “Thinking outside the box,” has become a well used popular phrase for those who want to successfully promote and garner support for an unpopluar or untried idea or project. This morning’s use of the phrase took on an altogether unheard of application that is shocking to think that the phrase could have meant anything otherwise. (Read more below.)

For Heaven’s Sake…
Without the law, no one can know what is wrong from what is right. Sin feels good. That is, sin feels good until you know it is sin. When you learn that it is sin and that sin leads to death, you then realize sin deceived you. When you see the deception of sin, you realize how good the law really is.
Paul’s letter to the Romans (Romans 7:7-13) says it this way:
13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
As we surrender our desires to God, under the power of the Holy Spirit, a miracle happens (as we learned in yesterday’s broadcast). The Holy Spirit changes our very desires. We no longer want to do the same things we did before we knew them to be sin. The key is surrendering, giving God permission to work His will in me. As I daily surrender to Him, as I read His word daily, as I put everything before in Him prayer without ceasing, I become changed. I become a new creature. I become like Christ, because I am spending quality time with Him. The person I once was is dead. The life I now live is by the power of GOD.
In other words says Pastor Flemons, “I cannot come up higher, unless the Holy Spirit does it in me.”
When churches emphasize a “good time” church community to the lack of helping people see their sins and the sinfulness of sin and pointing them to Way of salvation, they are no longer serving the people or GOD. It is a disservice.
People who have no sin, says Pastor Flemons, don’t need a savior.
For Health’s Sake…
If you are outside the box, says Pastor Flemons, you can still think. There is no thinking inside the box. The box to which Pastor Flemons is referring is the casket.
Never mind that you often hear statements to the contrary at funerals with the unconscious body visibly in the casket, the Bible has this to say about life and death in Psalm 146:2-4:
4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
There is no more thinking going on. All our thoughts perish in death. Where does our breath go? Lest you think our breath is floating around in some higher state of consciousness and the dead now live in the spirit, the Bible again is clear and says something clearly different.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 says “Then shall the dust [meaning the dead body itself or the flesh] return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.”
There you have it. The physical body becomes dust. It simply decays to dust. The breath or spirit returns to God who gave it in the first place. And the thoughts of the dead person perish immediately! There is no thinking in the box.
The lesson from Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness and naturopathy, is this: While you have the opportunity, think while you are out of the box. Death and disease come because of a violation of simple biblical health principles. If you knew ahead of time exactly what disease you would die from, but you were given the opportunity to change the outcome, what would you do?
