For Heaven’s Sake…
Satan would love to tempt us beyond what we are able to bear. But God won’t allow it. God says He will always make a way to escape. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).
There is a science of temptation, says Pastor Flemons. It is found in James 1:14, “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” We are tempted because of some tendency we already have in us, whether inherited or cultivated. It may even be because of abuse as a child, whether sexual or otherwise, that causes us to be faced with seemingly overwhelming urges later in life.
Not everyone has the same past and so all are not tempted by the exact same thing. But temptation comes to everyone in the form of a lie. “Every temptation is a lie,” says Pastor Flemons. The temptation is a lie Satan whispers to you that the sin will make you feel better if you do it now. The temptation itself is not sin. Giving in to the temptation is sin. Verse 15 of James 1 says, “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
God promises an escape from sinning, from giving in to the temptation. It is called grace. Grace is not simply pardon. Grace is also power. The stronger the temptation to sin, the stronger the power of grace to escape the temptation. We only have to ask. Where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more. (Read Romans 5:20.)
Where you were born is no excuse to sin, says Pastor Flemons. Even Jesus was of Nazareth. Nazareth’s reputation was so bad that it was said nothing good could come out of it. (Read John 1:45, 46.) All the earth could been seen this way by the unfallen worlds of God’s creations. Thankfully, God remembers that we are dust and knows just how much we can handle. He pities us as a father pities his children. We can take comfort in Him and trust Him to show us the way of escape and to give us the power to escape. Just ask Him.
For Health’s Sake…
Gluten intolerance is not to be confused with celiac disease, which is an autoimmune disease. Neither should it be confused with a wheat allergy, which has more vicious symptoms than gluten intolerance, says Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness and naturopathy. Gluten intolerance is, however, a wheat-related disorder.
Less common than the symptoms above are these:
- Stomach pain (more specific than belly pain)
- Anxiety
- Headache
- Nausea
- Confusion
- Numbness
- Joint or muscle pain
