Words of Encouragement
Joel 2:21 Fear not, O Land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.
Psalm 34:18-19 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

For Heaven’s Sake…
In time prophecies, one day equals one year.
In the first six verses of Ezekiel 4, we read how God instructed Ezekiel to build a scale model portraying the siege of Jerusalem. He told when to expect it. The last part of verse 6 says this: “I have appointed thee each day for a year.” The Bible is its own interpreter. It provides key pieces of information for proper understanding.
In Numbers 13 and 14, the story is told of twelve spies sent into the promised land to bring back a report to the children of Israel and Moses. The search took forty days. They found a good land, flowing with milk and honey, and they brought back fruit from it. The fruit was so great that it took two men to carry one cluster of grapes on a stick. They also returned with pomegranates and figs.
However, ten of the twelve spies convinced all the people that giants lived in the land and that they were only grasshoppers by comparison. Only Caleb and Joshua reported that with God the land would be theirs and advised to immediately take possession of the “exceeding good land.” The people refused to believe and decided Caleb and Joshua should be stoned.
God intervened. As punishment for their disbelief, God sentenced the whole congregation to wandering in the desert for forty years: one year for each day the team took to spy out the land. As a result, none of the disbelievers entered the promised land. They died in the wilderness, just as God promised:
Numbers 14:34-35 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
Numbers 14:37-38 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD. But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
For Health’s Sake…
The article reports that study findings support these recommendations for staying alert: apples, avocados, breakfast (including eggs and yogurt), dark leafy vegetables, green tea, gum, salmon and water.
Pastor Flemons basically agrees with the reported findings with four exceptions:
(1) Eggs and yogurt should not be included in one’s diet.
(2) Green tea is toxic because of the caffeine in it and is not recommended for consumption. Besides, the article itself confirms that caffeine only delays feelings of drowsiness.
(3) Unless gum is chewed just after a meal, avoid its use. Chewing gum any other time keeps the digestive juices working beyond normal. Chewing gum also adds sugar to the bloodstream and thereby acids, which promote disease.
(4) Salmon is the flesh of a dead animal. Avoid it to avoid the toxins it will definitely contain.
Nevertheless, Pastor Flemons agrees with the following article statements:
“Apples contain high amounts of fiber and natural sugars that breakdown slowly in the body, releasing a steady stream of glucose into the bloodstream and providing the body with a consistent source of energy.”
“Avocados were found to improve lutein levels in the brain, which is related to improved cognition.”
Breakfast is essential. “Numerous studies have shown that students who eat breakfast perform better on tests than their peers and are able to focus longer.”
“Kale, spinach, and turnip greens are rich in folate, which has been found to keep the brain functioning at full speed.”
Finally, “Drinking water does your body a lot of good: It suppresses appetite, speeds up metabolism, and may even reduce stress. But, most importantly, water keeps your cells, tissues, and organs fully hydrated. Studies found that dehydration negatively affects concentration and awareness in adults.”
Pastor Flemons added that if you find yourself frequently forgetful, drink more water. You may be simply dehydrated. Drink, in ounces, half of your body’s weight.
