Worship: For Heaven’s Sake Be careful of what you eat. Volatile behavior during church board meetings, in the home, in social circles, and elsewhere can be traced to dietary abuses. (Read more below.)
Wellness: For Health’s Sake When you eat sugar and foods that break down into simple sugars, your blood sugar or glucose is elevated. Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness and naturopathy, explains what happens and more. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Deuteronomy 28:9 The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways.

“Eat so that you develop a character like God,” says Pastor Flemons. Do not eat hot and spicy foods, nor unclean foods, like the flesh of dead animals. Eating hot, spicy and fleshy foods make you irritable and easily angered. Eating largely the flesh of dead animals, according to one in the sexual pleasure industry, sustained the appetite for such behavior. That fits the instinctive behavior of animals, says Pastor Flemons.
“Church Trials—The abuses of the stomach by the gratification of appetite are a fruitful source of most church trials. Those who eat and work intemperately and irrationally, talk and act irrationally. It is not necessary to drink alcoholic liquors in order to be intemperate. The sin of intemperate eating—eating too frequently, too much, and of rich, unwholesome food—destroys the healthy action of the digestive organs, affects the brain, and perverts the judgment, preventing rational, calm, healthy thinking and acting. In order for the people of God to be in an acceptable state with him, where they can glorify him in their bodies and spirits, which are his, they must with interest and zeal deny the gratification of appetite, and exercise temperance in all things. Then they can comprehend the truth in its beauty and clearness, and carry it out in their lives, and by a judicious, straight-forward course give the enemies of our faith no occasion to reproach the cause of truth.” CTBH 155.3 (Ellen G. White and James White, Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, p. 155.3)
“The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, who, if they had conquered on this point, would have had the moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail of perfecting Christian character. The continual transgression of man for over six thousand years has brought sickness, pain, and death as its fruit. And as we draw near the close of time, Satan’s temptations to indulge appetite will be more powerful, and more difficult to resist.” CTBH 154.2 (Ellen G. White and James White, Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, p. 154.2)
Proverbs 28:21 To have respect of persons is no good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.
If we are slaves of appetite, we will never develop the character of Christ, says Pastor Flemons.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
For Health’s Sake…
When the blood sugar rises, the body responds by secreting insulin into the bloodstream to lower the sugar. But when this happens so regularly, the body goes awry. When sugar is excessive, the body secretes large amounts of insulin. This drops the sugar too low, causing hypoglycemia.
This causes the adrenal glands to become stressed, and they secrete adrenaline as a response to foods, when this should only happen in times of real danger. Adrenaline causes the stored sugar in your liver and muscles to be converted back into glucose, which is blood sugar. When adrenaline is secreted in response to dietary habits, an abnormal habitual pattern is formed: the body develops a survival mechanism. You find that you are operating in a fight or flight mode too frequently.
This is abuse, says Pastor Flemons. The body has become skittish. This process is too stressful for the body. Mood swings, irritability, and impatience are the result. It is the same effect as a nicotine addiction. In fact, says Pastor Flemons, “You can be mentally ill, because your blood sugar is not regulated.” If you have hypoglycemia, you are much better off eating whole grains, nuts, seeds and lots of raw vegetables. Because of the sugar in fruits, even fruits must be temporarily avoided until the body has normalized. This may take 30 days.
Genesis 1:29 KJV – And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
