Worship: Salt / Wellness: Elderberry

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Salt has two purposes. It adds flavor. It preserves. The life of a Christian should add flavor and preserve Christian graces under all circumstances. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Take 1 tablespoon of elderberry in its liquid form and add it to a cup of warm water 2 – 3 times per day and reap the benefits of a strengthened immune system. Elderberry is nature’s cough syrup, says Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness. It is great for respiratory and cardiovascular issues. Some species of elderberry are poisonous, however. And for that reason, Pastor Flemons only recommends buying it in the health food store, rather than harvesting it yourself.

Words of Encouragement

Romans 8:38-39  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isaiah 66:13  As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

For Heaven’s Sake…

Matthew 5:13-14  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Many profess Christianity, but they do not bear the fruit of Christian character that results from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Rather, many want to simply be called a Christian. Nevertheless, they believe in doing whatever it is that suits them personally.

Isaiah 4:1 And in that day seven women [church members] shall take hold of one man [Christ], saying, We will eat our own bread [do whatever pleases us], and wear our own apparel [wear whatever pleases us]: only let us be called by thy name [Christian], to take away our reproach [so that we are still accepted by the Christian community and the world]. (Paraphrases are in brackets.)

God, however, prefers that a person be either hot or cold, not lukewarm. It is better to be all in for God or all in for Satan. Trying to straddle the fence with a noncommitted spirit is the worst position for someone who really wants to be saved.

Revelation 3:15-16  I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Determine to be a real Christian. Be the salt of the earth. Bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Mature Christians, who are filled with the Holy Spirit, will respond as did Christ. Even when under fire, they will manifest the fruit of the Spirit. Their responses will be as “apples of gold in pitchers of silver” (Proverbs 25:11).

Colossians 4:6  Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

The way Christians respond, especially in heated circumstances, is critical. Often in such circumstances, they have the unique opportunity to enhance someone’s life and preserve peace. May God help us all.

A soft answer turns away wrath (Proverbs 15:1).
