Words of Encouragement

Psalm 46:6-7   The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

For Heaven’s Sake…

The law existed prior to the sin of Adam and Eve. Had there not been a law there never would have been sin. Sin is the transgression of the law.(Romans 4:15; 1 John 3:4) By eating the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve broke not only the fifth commandment but also the first, the third, the eighth and the tenth commandments. They dishonored their Father God. They put themselves and their desires before God. They took the name of the LORD in vain. They stole the fruit. It was not theirs to take. They coveted the one thing God specifically told the not to eat.

But as soon as there was sin, there was a promised savior. Jesus is the Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8). His unspeakable grace was applied immediately. Grace was not introduced at the cross of Calvary. It existed at the first sight of sin. For “where sin abounded, grace did much more abound” (Romans 5:20).

The Ten Commandments are not to be confused with the law of Moses contained in ordinances. The ordinances pointed to the ministry of Christ and the plan of redemption. But when Christ was crucified, the ordinances were nailed to the cross with Jesus. The Ten Commandments, however, are eternal. They are the moral law to which Jesus said, “Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall in no wise pass from the law until all be fulfilled” (Matthew 5:18).

There are many who try to blend these two systems, using the texts that speak of the ceremonial law to prove that the moral law has been abolished; but this is a perversion of the Scriptures. The distinction between the two systems is broad and clear. The ceremonial system was made up of symbols pointing to Christ, to His sacrifice and His priesthood. This ritual law, with its sacrifices and ordinances, was to be performed by the Hebrews until type met antitype in the death of Christ, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. Then all the sacrificial offerings were to cease. It is this law that Christ “took … out of the way, nailing it to His cross.” Colossians 2:14. But concerning the law of Ten Commandments the psalmist declares, “Forever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven.” Psalm 119:89. And Christ Himself says, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law…. Verily I say unto you”—making the assertion as emphatic as possible—“Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Matthew 5:17, 18. Here He teaches, not merely what the claims of God’s law had been, and were then, but that these claims should hold as long as the heavens and the earth remain. The law of God is as immutable as His throne. It will maintain its claims upon mankind in all ages.PP 365.1

“While the Saviour’s death brought to an end the law of types and shadows, it did not in the least detract from the obligation of the moral law. On the contrary, the very fact that it was necessary for Christ to die in order to atone for the transgression of that law, proves it to be immutable.PP 365.3″

For Health’s Sake…

“The life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). Blood volume affects blood pressure. The control of blood volume is centered in the kidneys. When there is increased blood pressure, the kidneys release more sodium and water to lower the pressure. It is necessary for long-term stability of blood pressure.

Sensors in the aorta (which extends from the heart) and the carotid artery in the neck send messages to the central nervous system. They are sensing blood pressure. When it is too low, hormones are produced and are released that increase the heart rate and the strength of the contraction, called stroke volume. When it is too high, the body tries to do the opposite, decreasing the heart rate and strength of the stroke volume.

Artery elasticity is affected by stress. Sensors in the aorta and the carotid artery send messages to the central nervous system. These hormones affect the diameter of the vessels. They expand and contract. The brain tells the body that it is oxygen deficient. Blood pressure rises. Heart beat increases. Arteries and veins constrict.

Too much sodium in the diet will increase blood volume. Water intake is important. When water intake is deficient, the blood thickens. A diet of cholesterol and fat will increase blood pressure. Toxins create free radical damage in the arteries.
