Worship: For Heaven’s Sake GOD is a God of order. His people newly released from slavery had a lot of adjustments to make before their entrance into Canaan, the promised land. Their encampment at Sinai was their place of organization and preparation. Still, lessons of diet and authority were learned en route to Kadesh. (Read more below.)
Wellness: For Health’s Sake Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, helped listeners understand the pathology of hypertension with one focus: cardiac output. (Read more below.)
(NOTE: Before following any advice given here, please read our disclaimer on this page.)
Special Prayer was offered for a live call-in listener: HOST. Please pray for Pastor Flemons to have a safe and successful missionary trip to California.

For Heaven’s Sake…
“The government of Israel was characterized by the most thorough organization, wonderful alike for its completeness and its simplicity. The order so strikingly displayed in the perfection and arrangement of all God’s created works was manifest in the Hebrew economy. God was the center of authority and government, the sovereign of Israel. Moses stood as their visible leader, by God’s appointment, to administer the laws in His name. From the elders of the tribes a council of seventy was afterward chosen to assist Moses in the general affairs of the nation. Next came the priests, who consulted the Lord in the sanctuary. Chiefs, or princes, ruled over the tribes. Under these were “captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens,” and, lastly, officers who might be employed for special duties. Deuteronomy 1:15.PP 374.2
“The Hebrew camp was arranged in exact order. It was separated into three great divisions, each having its appointed position in the encampment. In the center was the tabernacle, the abiding place of the invisible King. Around it were stationed the priests and Levites. Beyond these were encamped all the other tribes.PP 374.3
“Scrupulous cleanliness as well as strict order throughout the encampment and its environs was enjoined. Thorough sanitary regulations were enforced. Every person who was unclean from any cause was forbidden to enter the camp. These measures were indispensable to the preservation of health among so vast a multitude; and it was necessary also that perfect order and purity be maintained, that Israel might enjoy the presence of a holy God. Thus He declared: “The Lord thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy.”PP 375.3
“God is a God of order. Everything connected with heaven is in perfect order; subjection and thorough discipline mark the movements of the angelic host. Success can only attend order and harmonious action. God requires order and system in His work now no less than in the days of Israel. All who are working for Him are to labor intelligently, not in a careless, haphazard manner. He would have his work done with faith and exactness, that He may place the seal of His approval upon it.PP 376.1
“God brought the Israelites from Egypt, that He might establish them in the land of Canaan, a pure, holy, and happy people. In the accomplishment of this object He subjected them to a course of discipline, both for their own good and for the good of their posterity. Had they been willing to deny appetite, in obedience to His wise restrictions, feebleness and disease would have been unknown among them. Their descendants would have possessed both physical and mental strength. They would have had clear perceptions of truth and duty, keen discrimination, and sound judgment. But their unwillingness to submit to the restrictions and requirements of God, prevented them, to a great extent, from reaching the high standard which He desired them to attain, and from receiving the blessings which He was ready to bestow upon them.PP 378.3

For Health’s Sake…
Cardiac output is the amount of blood sent out from the heart. It is directly related to total blood volume (amount) and stroke volume. Stroke volume is the amount of blood ejected from the contraction of the left ventricle, which sends blood out to all parts of the body through the aorta and its branches. This is different from the stroke that occurs in the brain. This is simply the output of blood as related to the amount of total blood volume there is and the strength of the contraction that ejects blood from the heart.
Factors affecting cardiac output include sodium intake, blood volume, kidney function, hormones, nerve stimulation, and pressure in the aorta and nearby arteries.
Blood volume is controlled by the amount of water there is in the blood; and water is controlled by the amount of salt that you consume. Sodium intake plays a major role in affecting cardiac output. Salt attracts water. The more salt you eat the more water is pulled into the blood. This naturally affects blood pressure, because there is more blood to pump.
An increase in the amount of blood in the ventricles causes the ventricle to pump with greater force. The more blood there is to pump out of the ventricle, the greater the contraction or stroke volume. It is like a stretched rubber band. During systolic the ventricle is contracting. During diastolic the ventricle is resting. This is when it is drawing blood in like a vacuum. At the end of the diastolic cycle the atrium at the top squeezes a little more blood into the ventricle before it contracts. If enough blood is allowed in that stretches the ventricles walls, the ejection will correspond to the extent of the pressure exerted during the contraction. All of the blood is not actually ejected. Thus stroke volume is directly related to blood volume.
Kidney function affects blood volume. When the kidneys fail to release toxins from the blood through urination, blood volume is increased. Greater blood volume increases blood pressure. Greater blood pressure damages kidneys. Greater water intake causes the kidneys to release more toxins through urination. It is important to drink water to avoid poor kidney function and eventual damage to the kidneys.
Hormones affect water and salt balance. When there is too much blood volume, the brain signals the body to release the excess water and salt through urination. When there is insufficient blood volume, the brain signals the body to hold water and salt.
Two divisions of nerves affect cardiac output: sympathetic and parasympathetic. Sympathetic nerves cause an elevation of blood pressure and thus increase heart rate. Parasympathetic nerves relax blood pressure and thus decrease heart rate. Stress is the culprit. The answer is relying on God.
Elevated pressure on the aorta and nearby arteries affect cardiac output. Higher arterial pressure reduces stroke volume; but more blood gets left in the ventricle. This is similar to the effect of a thumb at the exit point of a water hose. Water is held back in the hose. Less water is released with greater force.
Clothing should be loose and evenly cover the body to effect a healthy blood pressure. Tight-fitting clothing squeezes the arteries and affect blood pressure, causing it to rise. Exposed extremities cause the brain to detect a coolness in the arms and legs. This causes an increase in cardiac output to compensate for the cool areas in its effort to create an even temperature throughout the body. Therefore, a simple change of dress can lower blood pressure.
