Words of Encouragement
Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Psalm 97:1 The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.

For Heaven’s Sake…
The children of Israel had been given clear instruction to drive out the idolatrous Canaanites that would be used by Satan to force idolatry upon them. While Moses was alive, God declared to them, “I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee. Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against Me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.” Exodus 23:27-33.
Once settled in Canaan, Israel became lazy and complacent and did not obey God’s command to utterly destroy the inhabitants. In fulfillment of prophecy, they were vexed by the Canaanites and conformed to their idolatrous practices, including the worship of Baal. God sent various judges to deliver Israel; but as soon as the leader died, the people returned to their idolatry.
God then raised up Gideon, a man of faith and courage to deliver Israel. Gideon was not a leader, a priest, or even a Levite. His victory over the Canaanite was a faith-builder for Gideon, for Israel, and for us all today. Several times, Gideon was told that his outnumbered army was too large. Several times men were excused from the battle because of their fears or preoccupation with some matter at home. Against an army that appeared in number like the sand of the seashore, Gideon prevailed with 300 men, trumpets and torches.
God wants to teach us that He will fight for us if we will remove the idols out of our lives. Pastor Flemons reminded us that God is not limited by the numbers of people or the numbers of dollar bills behind us. “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.” 1 Cor. 1:27-29

For Health’s Sake…
We must drive out every bad habit. We often become complacent because bad habits do not immediately make us feel bad. Pastor Flemons reminded us of the following scripture:
“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” Eccl. 8:11.
The danger is that because we do not immediately feel the ill effects of our habits, we continue their practice. Eventually, our bad health habits will catch up with us and alter the abundant life God intends for us to have. Let’s drive out every bad habit.
