Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “The suppression of Scripture is not overt,” says Pastor Flemons. It is suppressed by the party time in church. In place of the booze, people are bringing their own versions of the Bible. Each person is his or her own boss. The reign of Josiah led Judah from party time to true revival; and he did it by the book of the law. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, discussed the effects of exercise and self-control on the bones. They are part of a ten-point biblical wellness lifestyle program we call REFRESHING. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement

Colossians 3:2-4  Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

James 1:5-6  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering, For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

For Heaven’s Sake…

Through apostasy, idolatry, and careless neglect, the book of the law had been lost. It had been strangely misplaced. It was strange in that it was the temple copy. “Thus for many years the people generally were deprived of its instruction. PK 392.2

“The long-lost manuscript was found in the temple by Hilkiah, the high priest, while the building was undergoing extensive repairs in harmony with King Josiah’s plan for the preservation of the sacred structure. The high priest handed the precious volume to Shaphan, a learned scribe, who read it and then took it to the king with the story of its discovery. PK 393.1

“Josiah was deeply stirred as he heard read for the first time the exhortations and warnings recorded in this ancient manuscript. Never before had he realized so fully the plainness with which God had set before Israel ‘life and death, blessing and cursing’ (Deuteronomy 30:19): and how repeatedly they had been urged to choose the way of life, that they might become a praise in the earth, a blessing to all nations. ‘Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid,’ Israel had been exhorted through Moses; ‘for the Lord thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, not forsake thee.’ Deuteronomy 31:6. PK 393.2

“The book abounded in assurances of God’s willingness to save to the uttermost those who should place their trust fully in Him. As He had wrought in their deliverance from Egyptian bondage, so would He work mightily in establishing them in the Land of Promise and in placing them at the head of the nations of earth. PK 393.3”

The book also promised certain judgment for apostasy. Josiah, recognizing the state of affairs, inquired of the LORD through the prophetess Huldah whether it was within his power to save Judah from ruin. He learned that even humility at that point would not remove the judgment set upon God’s people for their long apostasy. If judgment were averted at this point, they would soon return to their sinful course. Nevertheless, God promised Josiah that because of his quick response to the book of the law he would be laid to rest before God would bring all the evil upon the people.

Although Josiah could not avert the divine judgment of God, he did everything within his power to bring about decided reforms. Three hundred years prior, it had been prophesied that he would do exactly that. More than a decade followed that ended with Josiah’s death on the battle field with Egyptian forces. It is said that there was no king like Josiah, either before or after him, who “turned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses”(2 Kings 23:25).

“True revival,” says Pastor Flemons, “is stimulated by true doctrine.” True revival in essence involves true reformation. “It is not party time,” he says. “It is time for a reformation.”

(This study is based on chapter 33, “The Book of the Law” in Prophets and Kings (PK), by Ellen G. White.)

For Health’s Sake…

“Exercise locks in calcium in the bones,” says Pastor Flemons. Exercise helps keep the bones strong. In this way, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis are prevented. When self-control is exercised, toxins will not be ingested. Toxins in the blood are what cause acidity. Acidic blood causes the body to do what it can to alkalinize the blood. That is when calcium is leeched from the bones to alkalinize the blood. Therefore, self-control also prevents osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Lifestyle truly makes the difference in one’s health.

The ten-point biblical wellness lifestyle called REFRESHING encourages relying on God; eating healthy; getting fresh air, rest, and exercise; using self-control; drinking H2O or water; getting in the sun; never giving up; and giving to others.
