Worship: For Heaven’s Sake People think that because Jesus did not honor the rigid rabbinical laws regarding the Sabbath, they do not have to honor the Bible Sabbath. Jesus always honored the Sabbath according to the Bible. But He always rejected the inventions of men that conflict with the Bible. Only an “It is written…” was His reason for every act that varied from rabbinical laws and family customs. (Read more below.)
Wellness: For Health’s Sake Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says foods affect our mood, attitude and disposition. They can even make us bipolar. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement
Isaiah 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.
Psalm 34:2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
For Heaven’s Sake…
From childhood, the behavior of Jesus was independent of the rabbinical laws. “The Scripture of the Old Testament were His constant study, and the words, ‘Thus saith the Lord,’ were ever upon His lips.” DA 84.1
It was clear to Him “that the requirements of society and the requirements of God were in constant collision.” (The same is true for those who today do likewise and follow God, according to the teachings of the Bible.) “Not even respect and love for His parents could turn Him from obedience to God’s word. . . . The influence of the rabbis made His life a bitter one. Even in His youth He had to learn the hard lesson of silence and patient endurance. DA 86.1
His own “brothers … sided with the rabbis. . . . His strict obedience to the law of God they condemned as stubbornness. . . . They recognized that His education was of a higher type than their own. But they did not discern that He had access to the tree of life, a source of knowledge of which they were ignorant.” DA 86.2
They didn’t understand Him and were jealous of Him. And as His older brothers, they made life difficult for Him and often threatened Him and tried to force Him into submission to them. His love for them, however, was unfailing and kind. Jesus “possessed a dignity and individuality wholly distinct from earthly pride and assumption; He did not strive for worldly greatness, and in even in the lowliest position He was content. This angered His brothers. DA 87.3
“Often He was asked, Why are you bent on being so singular, so different from us all? It is written, He said, ‘Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. Blessed are they that keep His testimonies, and that seek Him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.’ Psalm 119:1-3. DA 89.2
“Through childhood, youth, and manhood, Jesus walked alone. In His purity and His faithfulness, He trod the wine press alone, and of the people there was none with Him. He carried the awful weight of responsibility for the salvation of men. He knew that unless there was a decided change in the principles and purposes of the human race, all would be lost. This was the burden of His soul, and none could appreciate the weight that rested upon Him. Filled with intense purpose, He carried out the design of His life that He Himself should be the light of men.” DA 92.2

For Health’s Sake…
Reviewing an EverydayHealth.com article about foods to avoid when you have the bipolar disorder, Pastor Flemons quickly commented that these are likely the very foods that caused the disorder for those who already have that weakness. “It just probably pulled you right over into bipolar disorder,” he says. While he disagreed with portions of the article, he agrees with recent research findings that caffeine, alcohol and fatty foods lead to worse outcomes.
The article suggests a diet of whole grains, nuts, fruits, vegetables and lean meats. Leave off the lean meats. Pastor Flemons says, “We don’t need lean meats.”
Poor diet is often noted among sufferers of bipolar disorder. One problem is fast foods as a primary food source. There is an imbalance of omega-6/omega-3 diet. Only a small amount of omega-6 is required daily. Sources are primarily vegetable oils. Pastor Flemons says you can often avoid a heart bypass just by going on an free-flowing oil-free diet to unclog clogged arteries. He suggests getting the required oil through an avocados, olives or in raw nuts. Omega-3 sources typically recommended, like salmon and other cold-water fish, are not what Pastor Flemons says is best. Flaxseed, nuts and certain plants, such as basil, are the better sources, he says.
Other factors to be careful of include medication side effects, inadequate exercise, smoking, lack of access to care, and sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation is a notorious trigger for bipolar mood swings and mania, according the article. Pastor Flemons frequently reminds listeners and viewers of the importance of regularly adhering to the bedtime hour of 9:30 p.m. at the latest.
Proper rest, self-control (also called temperance), a plant-based diet, and exercise are four of the main (REFRESHING) ten commandments of biblical wellness promoted by the Times of Refreshing Wellness Ministry.
