Worship: He Promised to Come / Wellness: Sugar Blues

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The earth is the courtyard of the heavenly sanctuary. As soon as there was sin, there was a Savior, and the promise of His coming. Just as prophets foretold the coming of Jesus the first time, and He came, prophecy tells of His second coming, and He will come very soon. Pastor Flemons says that since Jesus left heaven and came to earth to die for us to save us from the wages of sin, we can be certain that He will return to claim us and take us to heaven to live with Him for an eternity. [Read “The Promised Savior” and “Prophets Foretold His Coming” in The Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck, PTG 36 (PTG 28)]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says sugar is making us sick. He shared a CNN.com article that says sugar addiction and withdrawal are real. It detailed what happens to the brain once a person is deprived of the sugar habitually consumed. Study indicates sugar withdrawal can lead to such symptoms as cravings, anxiety, impulsive behaviors, teeth chattering, tremors, head shaking, and feelings of helplessness. Like drugs, sugar consumption over the long term “actually changes the gene expression and availability of dopamine receptors in both the midbrain and frontal cortex.” Sugar suppresses the desire for self-control and strengthens the desire to do what is pleasurable. This should cause parents and others to use severe restraint in giving children sugary foods and treats. It predisposes them to addictions. Although honey is a healthy sweet, the Bible warns against consuming “much honey” (Proverbs 25:27).

Words of Encouragement

James 1:5  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

James 1:6, 7  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
